Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 01-30-2013 That's my finding too. Macbook Air might be my next machine. And by next machine I think I mean I'm getting one from someone who resigned this afternoon! Woot. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 01-30-2013 except macbook airs (still) dont have touchscreens. and thats exactly what I said when this whole tablet craze hit, bitches. surface pro is funny. laptop OS, laptop chip, snap on laptop keyboard. but its a tablet. ill take a touchscreen ultrabook instead. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-30-2013 Evan Wrote:ill take a touchscreen ultrabook instead. I almost bought one, but then went for a conventional laptop with big ass screen and big ass processor instead. Every once in awhile I wish it had a touchscreen, but that's mostly because I'm terrible with a touchpad and have gotten used to screen swiping with my phone and tablet. I think it's a little early to proclaim RIM dead. No one expected them to revolutionize anything, but they've at least shown they're willing to change. Nokia on the other hand... Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 01-30-2013 no, RIM is dead. will be bought by [someone] (MS?) for chump change in a year or two, will be killed off, and branding will be used for enterprise messaging. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-30-2013 Everyone thought AOL was dead and yet somehow Jake is still employed. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 01-30-2013 Selling all your patents to triple your stock can't keep them alive forever. What you alluding to about Nokia? The new 920 is fucking tits. As soon as it comes to verizon I am getting one. A couple guys here have gotten one on ATT who are pretty dedicated iphone users. Also as a software developer, Qt is fucking awesome http://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Qt/Tools/ Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Ken - 01-30-2013 HAULN-SS Wrote:What you alluding to about Nokia? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 01-30-2013 Apoc Wrote:Everyone thought AOL was dead and yet somehow Jake is still employed. That's because "everyone" continues to think of AOL as a company who provides dial-up internet and nothing more. I'm sick of hearing "oh, wow, I didn't know they were still around" every time I tell someone where I work. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - FlaakCM - 01-30-2013 They do have a pretty bangin office though in Ashburn Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 01-30-2013 spec sheet is pretty good: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/30/blac ... lumia-920/ except we all know that some pretty terrible products in this space have had nice specs. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 01-30-2013 Evan Wrote:except macbook airs (still) dont have touchscreens. I cant think of a single time where I thought "damn, I wish I could mash the screen with my fingers and make shit happen on this laptop I'm using". My opinion here is probably invalid since I still havent bought a new laptop  Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jewels - 01-30-2013 Jake Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Everyone thought AOL was dead and yet somehow Jake is still employed. Hey Jake, You work for AOL, they're still around? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 01-30-2013 .RJ Wrote:Evan Wrote:except macbook airs (still) dont have touchscreens. RJ in 2008 "I just want a phone that makes phonecalls, thats it. no fancypants or apps or music or email or internet or touchscreens" Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - .RJ - 01-30-2013 More like 2006. But you're right. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-30-2013 Next thing you know, he's gonna have a smartwatch!! Jake Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Everyone thought AOL was dead and yet somehow Jake is still employed. Mike and I both worked there; we are well aware. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Jake - 01-30-2013 Jewels Wrote:Jake Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Everyone thought AOL was dead and yet somehow Jake is still employed. Did you think of that all on your own?!  So, hey, I was given a Galaxy SIII to play with for a day or so. Someone tell me what to download and tweak to make it cool. So far, I have my work email and Spotify. How do I change what appears in the notifications bar (I know the headphones are plugged in, stop showing me "apps that use them") and where do I get cool widgets? Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 01-30-2013 Google play....widgets. I can help you at at tueducken if youd like. Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 01-30-2013 Jake Wrote:Someone tell me what to download and tweak to make it cool.know how I know you're an apple user?
Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 01-30-2013 Is this the line for apps? The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Jake - 01-30-2013 Well, I found the built-in widgets and managed to start customizing this thing. It's kind of a moot point since I'm giving it back in a day or two, but I'm getting a feel for things. I don't think the software is as polished as iOS in some places, but I think it's worthy of being a work phone. How do you guys think Samsung will be about doing OS updates as Google rolls out new releases? It's up to the manufacturer if they want to continue supporting the device, right? |
