ETF growth already paid for the fees 13 days after purchase! Such win

Meanwhile in other news, I am sure you speculators probably already saw this:

My brother's take on the marijuana stocks and bitcoin:
Quote:BitCoin man dangerous stuff, such an untested frontier type market. Another industry that is interesting to watch are the Marijuana stocks that are blowing up right and left.

And in response to a link my coworker found: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://blog.blockchain.info/2014/02/25/joint-statement/">http://blog.blockchain.info/2014/02/25/joint-statement/</a><!-- m -->

Quote:Yes as solid as you can be when one of your largest exchanges for your currency collapses. Notice the wording in the final paragraph “Acting as a custodian should require a high-bar, including appropriate security safeguards that are independently audited and tested on a regular basis….” It would be terrifying to me that there is no mandatory regulation, standards, or third party audit/regulation by these exchanges holding significant amounts of money for people. Until they get their exchanges more secure there is no way I go close to BitCoin as an investor, unless you are willing to lose your whole investment. I will say it is entertaining to watch though.

A seekingalpha take on BitCoin. Maybe a bit too Bearish for me, but he makes some good points.

Things still aren't looking up for Bitcoin

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 03-05-2014

The exchange has always been the weak link IMHO. Online wallets tied to my name and bank account? No thanks. That destroys the anonymous, no-central-control-control traits that have been central to the appeal. The only way to deal with bitcoin is via personal transactions. I'm not sure how/if a large, successful currency exchange will ever get implemented.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, everything's up! :thumbup:

Down 147 points at opening huh? What happened, did someone fart in a rice paddy in Thailand? ISIS takes control of non-weapons grade uranium in Iraq? Lebron James not coming back to the Heat?

Re: Stock Market Thread - Evan - 07-10-2014

Profit taking is my guess.

Also the minor factor that the economy and employment still sucks and there is no fundamentals behind this market rally to begin with

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 07-10-2014

well that was over fast, let it ride! :thumbup:

I laugh every time I hear about ISIS. Though I'm sure it's not as funny over there.

Re: Stock Market Thread - ScottyB - 08-11-2014

anybody wanna short Tesla? or does this even matter with the Tesla brand being so juiced up right now?

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://autos.yahoo.com/news/tesla-model-drive-unit-replacements-big-problem-134145361.html">https://autos.yahoo.com/news/tesla-mode ... 45361.html</a><!-- m -->

sounds like they'd better get their manufacturing base figured out and/or get a solid lease program together, because after these things go out of warranty some owners are going to be living in a (non moving) Tesla down by the river trying to pay for replacement drive units at this rate.

makes me sad, cause they're super cool cars and i want one.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 08-11-2014

I felt sort of comfortable getting back into TSLA around 180 a few months ago, but I'm out (again). That being said, I'm too chicken to short Elon either.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 09-03-2014

Well, over 6 years later my home is finally worth +/- what I paid for it (according to the debatable accuracy of Zestimate, but a few have recently sold for my original sales price). I didn't buy near the height here but I definitely didn't buy close enough to the low. Compounding that was the fact that a lot of investors bought in this neighborhood and there were a bunch of foreclosures when the market went flat. Thankfully last year I qualified for the only policy our president created that I agree with, the mortgage principle reduction program for people who actually paid their mortgages on time. I was able to refinance and dump a bunch of negative equity, and now I'm in the black almost $20k.

Having gained some understanding when I worked in real estate in VA, I think my choice of location has really helped and I think in the long term this would be a great rental property or sell opportunity. This area is a lot like the Ashburn / Reston of northern VA and has lots of families, better schools, etc. than most of the area. They just finished a new elementary school within walking distance a few years ago. Also, a lot of companies have relocated their HQ to the Ballatyne area (Chiquita, Met Life, SPX) so it's desireable for commuters.

My wife has been looking fondly at single family homes in the area but after this experience I am not exactly in a hurry to buy another house. Hoping to keep saving and building equity in this one and eventually find a bunch of land to build a custom home on. Living in the burbs so long has made me realize that it starts to eat at your soul.

WRXtranceformed Wrote:Thankfully last year I qualified for the only policy our president created that I agree with

Funny how that works. :mrgreen:

Part of me wishes we kept our house when we moved, given we sold for 72% what we paid, but I'm glad we didn't have to deal with it for 2+ years.

Re: Stock Market Thread - HAULN-SS - 09-03-2014

Yah - are you sure you meant to say lowers principle there? I heard of allowing refinance for an underwater loan but I never heard of a lowering principle program. That's some commie bullshit.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 09-03-2014

Yeah there were two programs that I think still exist: One for "distressed" homeowners who were underwater and couldn't afford their payments and another for people who were underwater, made their payments on time but needed to refinance and couldn't without bringing a dumb amount of money to the table at closing. I don't remember the specifics but it was something like if you owed up to 115% of what your house was now worth, they would eliminate the remaining principle, wiping the slate clean so to speak. Banks got incentives from the Fed to absorb those hits. Fortunately it worked out great for me; I was able to refinance into a 30 yr fixed loan with a rate that was even lower than my ARM (originally I wasn't sure how long I would be in this house so planned to sell or refinance). My mortgage payment is effectively the same now as it was before, except it's going toward P&I and it's on signficantly less principal.

Regarding commie handouts, trust me I will talk your ear off on that subject. However seeing as I will probably never see SS payments and I have paid an absurd amount of tax money into the system over the last 6-7 years, I feel that I have definitely earned a little financial pat on the shoulder from the Fed.

"You have a financial hardship and are either delinquent or in danger of falling behind."

Lee maybe not the best idea to post about your supercharged jaguar ,all your expensive watches, big retirement account, and golf vacations when you turn around and steal money from taxpayers and people who choose to pay for what they purchase.

Lol - thanks. I didn't qualify for harp (not owned by fannie/freddie), and don't qualify for this either since I'm one of those rich guys they're always talking about I reckon (Apparently it was dumb to buy a cheap house that also went under water...damnit, should've spent more)
