10 lashes with a broken clutch cable!

Re: Project RS - ScottyB - 04-21-2015

14 lb. ACT streetlite and an Exedy OEM WRX clutch on the way. some bonus goodies too, GrpN pitch stopper mount and a new shifter pivot lever with upgraded bushings to really get the shifts crispy

gopro charging
beers chilling
neighbor bribed into helping
preparing my typing skills for what will inevitably be a total shitshow

For what it's worth, your DIY shitshows are the best DIY shitshows.

Re: Project RS - ScottyB - 04-24-2015

my first rallyx of the year is about to go down Sunday! i am ready to GO. been too long.

we might break a 30 driver attendance (as rallycrosses go, that's like a macy's day parade) . Prep-AWD is 7 deep already...as usual i get to carry the "no boost" torch all by me lonesome again Sad . i'm putting my excuses in now with my allseasons on the wear bars.

in other news, registration just opened up for the SCCA Rallyx Southeast Nat'l Challenge in June which is only 2 hours away from me this year...so i pretty much have to go or i'm not a man. i'd better go ahead and pepper my angus, because the challenges are basically one step down from nationals and most of the guys are "not slow".

gonna try out a new angle with the gopro - inside passenger window looking over the dash. might be fun to see where i'm looking and how uncoordinated i am.

Re: Project RS - ScottyB - 04-28-2015

tough but fun weekend! 11/27 overall, 4/7 in class. not the performance what i wanted but it was a good day to learn.

rained the night before and the course went from areas of wet-cement mud to dusty hardpack so every corner was different every single time we ran. in some places the mud was so deep it tried to pull my shoes off. not my first choice for a mud bog vehicle:

subuaru army out as usual but lots of cool stuff showed up - miatas, an integra, an impala  , new beetle, even a speed6. the unassuming WRX on the right was the day's winner...just some basic mods and snow tires. nobody could touch him including all the STi's and even the rally-prepped WRX in mod class. driver > car.
[Image: 11169505_791834187560605_198420173647412574_o.jpg]

by the end of the day the dirt was perfect and everybody's times dropped by 3-4 seconds.
[Image: 11109147_791834407560583_8854021705990218569_o.jpg]

i had to try out some new tire pressures in an attempt to find mud traction and was just really inconsistent with my lines all day. i feel like i've forgotten a lot from last season so this was a wake up call and has lit a fire in me a bit. at my best, i was less than 2 seconds off the fastest time of the day which felt good considering my car's prep level and the conditions. at my worst, i literally zoned out in the middle of a run and completely missed a gate which added 10 seconds to my run and destroyed my chances of a class podium. i just never found a line and was really bad in transitions....shit happens, gotta get 'em next time!

my two best runs of the day:

where is the huge ebrake handle?

at home with my manliness

Re: Project RS - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-29-2015

Nice! I love to see these updates. It may be a blow to the ego, but damn if it doesn't help you get better quicker when you are against stiff competition.

Where are the huge cloud filled slides full of awd wheelspin? Wink

Re: Project RS - PDenbigh - 04-29-2015

Nice man! Props on representing against the turbos and prepped cars! That looks like a fun. Think I could take the F150 out? :-)

oh yeah, i'm grateful for it, one of the best ways i get motivated to go faster

waiting on the photographer that was there to post some stuff, and then i can give you a 50% chance at best that i had the whp to actually create clouds of wheelspin

Re: Project RS - WRXtranceformed - 04-30-2015

I mean just the fact that you are out there hooning your daily driver and getting deep in the mud is balls enough man! It makes me cringe thinking about taking any of my cars into that environment so you definitely have mad props from me!

thanks....don't get me wrong though, i definitely waited on trying rallyx for a long time in part because i didnt want to get my car dirty back when it was still kind of nice. i'd never take a "nice", newer car out there unless i was never going to sell it. so when i see guys with that new speed3 and the $35k dollar STi's show up, they impress me!

one of the weirdest/most frustrating things i'm encountering now is that when i daydream about my next car purchase i frame everything up in terms of how willing and competitive i'd be to rallyx it. its a stupid way to think and i probably just need to accept that i need a dedicated dirt car or i'll be driving old POS subarus as dailys for the rest of my days

I was just gonna say - this looks like bucket loads of fun but hell if I'd take a brandy new car like that out there. I wonder how many of them now have some nice new squeaks and rattles on their daily drive to work  . You have my respect for taking your car out there, but I know deep down its little boxer-driven soul is thanking you deeply for giving it a right good thrashing in the dirt.
