- WRXtranceformed - 04-09-2009 Skins got Haynesworth for 7 years / $100,000,000. Haha...not a bad contract if you ask me! - John - 04-09-2009 I'm a bit psyched to catch the Skins here when they play in San Diego this year... when is the official schedule going to be released? - lillitnn92 - 04-10-2009 John Wrote:I'm a bit psyched to catch the Skins here when they play in San Diego this year... when is the official schedule going to be released? http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80fb0c09&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true Quote:...the 2009 NFL schedule is released in prime time for the first time, exclusively on NFL.com and NFL Network, on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. ET.... still think the Haynesworth deal will be a bust. :x - Evan - 04-27-2009 not impressed with the draft. the first round pick is a little slow and needs to put on 10 pounds. 13th overall pick shouldnt be a 'project' Im not convinced we need another corner (why fire Springs?). definately not more than we need O-line. 5th rounder has only been playing defense let alone his position for 2 seasons. loosing the 2nd round pick for jason taylor trade really stings right about now. since all the sports analysts like to give 'grades', Id give the Redskins a C- - DavidM - 04-27-2009 I'd disagree, Orakpo was considered the most NFL ready DE in the draft...and no one had him falling all the way to 13th. A lot of analysts expect him to make an impact right away. Initially I agreed with you on the corner but, i believe two of our corners have contracts up soon so if this kid pans out we could save a decent amount of money in the near future. I am disappointed that we didn't go after an offensive lineman, but i guess everyone is crossing their fingers they can just stay healthy. Given the debacle that Sanchez could have been, and my overall low expectations of the draft I think it went pretty well. - Mike - 04-27-2009 a) I'm indifferent on the draft. Don't know enough on Orakpo other than what all the analysts say, and they think it was a good pick. b) Our QB situation... Will it ever end? Campbell likely has no confidence now thanks to fucko Snyder and all the BS he pulls. The guy had an 80+ rating last year... I know he doesn't make big plays, but there is value in efficiency. So Campbells mind is no longer in it, he'll bomb, and we'll spend another decade trying to figure out fucking selves out. - Hunter - 04-27-2009 I was shocked that Orakpo was still on the board at 13, and the pick was a no brainer. I guess the skins thought so too because they only used 30 seconds of their allotted 10 minutes to make the pick. He's an athletic freak the likes of which the redskins haven't seen in a long time, and was rated by most as the top DE in the draft. Skins got lucky. I though Barnes, the 3rd round CB, was a good pick too. Smoot dropped off last year and Tryon shouldn't have even made the team, leaving us with a big hole at nickle corner. With 3 WR sets getting more and more popular every year, we might have ended up with a huge liability. The LB's and TE/FB picks were really just guys they thought may be able to contribute on special teams. The kickoff and punt coverage teams are mostly made up of LB's and we had some serious lack of depth there. Probably why our coverage teams were terrible last year. I would have liked to see an O-line pick or two, but that missing 2nd rounder really hurt. That was a primo spot to pick up a potential Right Tackle. - Evan - 04-28-2009 Hunter Wrote:I was shocked that Orakpo was still on the board at 13, and the pick was a no brainer. Skins got lucky.call me jaded but I just dont see him as that dominant of a player given some of the drawbacks that Ive read in his scouting report. remember last draft we got 2 of the top 3 rated WR in the draft and they havent amounted to anything so I just dont put a ton of stock in that. I hope Im wrong of course, and both he and Haynesworth are monsters on the line. - Hunter - 04-29-2009 Evan Wrote:call me jaded but I just dont see him as that dominant of a player given some of the drawbacks that Ive read in his scouting report. remember last draft we got 2 of the top 3 rated WR in the draft and they havent amounted to anything so I just dont put a ton of stock in that. I completely agree with you about the receivers from last year, but that was a really really weak draft for receivers and there was a reason that not a single one was drafted in the first round. I think Devin Thomas has a decent chance to break out this year, but I wouldn't hang my hat on it. In regard to Orakpo, he's too small to play 3-4 DE, but he seems ideal to play DE in a 4-3. Jason Taylor struggle last year against the run due to his size (amongst other things), but Orakpo out weighs him by 20 lbs and will likely add another 5-10 before the season starts. Most rookie DE's don't show much their first year, but I think playing next to Haynesworth and seeing virtually no double teams will help him out a lot. And he's really scary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGUc3UL64f0 It's weird to say this, but I actually have a lot of confidence in the front office's picks in the top of the first round. They're usually to dumb to keep them, but when they do they have a pretty exceptional track record with their high picks: Champ Bailey Lavar Arrington Chris Samuels Sean Taylor Carlos Rogers Laron landry - Mike - 04-29-2009 Hunter Wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGUc3UL64f0 vernon davis was also labeled a "freak," but still has yet to do squat. - Kaan - 05-04-2009 God I hope is was misquoted. I guess you think higher of Carlos Rogers than I do. But you also leave out other spectacular 1st round picks like Rod Gardner, trading a 1st round for Laverneous Coles, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell. How involved was Snyder's front office in drafting Bailey? He bought the team after that years draft. - Kaan - 05-04-2009 http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d ... nfirm=true check the bottom! - Evan - 05-04-2009 Portis is just cranky to have to leave Florida and have to come to work. I dont think that means he is unhappy being a Redskin. IMO its more of a problem that he is getting paid millions of dollars to show up to work after getting 4 months off and he is still complaining about it. Hopefully that doesnt reflect on his work ethic. - Evan - 05-04-2009 dubbble post - Hunter - 05-04-2009 stevegula Wrote:LaVar was worth letting go, as evident by his poor play in NY and his retirement shortly thereafter. Lavar was definitely worth letting go, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a good draft pick. From 2001-2003 he was one of, if not the best OLB in the NFL. Due to his knee injury he had a disappointing career, but I wouldn't call him a bust of a draft pick. I was trying to say they have been very successful with their high draft picks. Ignoring Bailey (good point, that wasn't really Snyder Co's draft), the rest of that group still had 10 pro bowl appearances and that's not too shabby. Completely whiffing on a top-10 pick sets the team back pretty significantly (monetarily and talent wise) and they've managed to avoid that. The other picks were later 1st round picks, while they were poor choices, they weren't players viewed as the best in the draft. PS. I think Rogers is hugely underrated. He's top 5 in the NFL in incompletion %, Yards per attempt, and passes defended... Most fans just write him off because he just can't catch to save his life. It's even more impressive when you consider the lack of anything resembling a pass rush from the D-line. PPS. I'm not saying the front office does a great job, I don't know if they've ever actually "won" a trade. I'm just saying they've been very successful when they've been able to get "their guy", which is exactly what happened this year. |
