I'm kind of with DJ, here.

Compare this:

To the 2013:

Or even better, a 2010:

The '10 looks like a Merc, the 15 looks like a Hyundai.

I agree with both of you. No need to shoot the messenger. Wish it was still the old 6L V8 as well.

Seeing as you are the furthest thing from the guy who makes decisions on M-B's design language, no one is angry at you. Rather read about a hundred fugly mercs than one fugly camry.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 09-24-2014

I actually really liked the new C-class in the photos, at least from the front 3/4, wasn't so sure about the rear. Saw one in traffic yesterday and thought it was my first CLA45 AMG sighting. It looks almost exactly the same as the CLA, which looks almost exactly like a photo copy of the CLS grafted onto a smaller frame.

I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me. Despite the styling I think the new C looks like an awesome car. If you're willing to pay for it, you can get practically every safety and comfort feature from the S-class on them, for $60k less than an S-class and a hell of a lot easier to park.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 09-24-2014

looks to me like the pedestrian safety prows they're building into the noses of all new cars are affecting the MB design language a bit.

the last gens were positively menacing. this latest gen is just pretty looking, but doesn't stir any emotions for me.

~'10 Merc design was so sex. Bring it on back.

New Golf Alltrack Wagon (not sure if we're getting it in the states) http://jalopnik.com/the-2015-volkswagen-alltrack-is-the-best-golf-for-the-f-1638498252

-184hp/280ft-lb diesel
-6spd DSG
-4motion AWD
-sits .8in higher
-electronic hill descent control
-Rated to tow 4,400

Run a miata track car and you'd never need to own another DD.

Even then you are overloaded. Rated to "tow" means including payload weight. So 2400lb Miata + 1500lb trailer + you + passenger + set of tires + tools...bam overweight.

I looked at Touaregs and they are apparently great SUVs to tow with, but apparently horrendously unreliable. Yay.

Yeah, fair point.

Touregs are super awesome to drive, but I wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole unless money didn't matter and I was just leasing it. I borrowed Laurens' parents when we moved and was endlessly entertained by the fact that you can adjust both the ride height AND the suspension firmness. Pretty sure I went through every combination.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Mike - 09-24-2014

we're not getting that car in the US. at least not this go-around. i think they'd test our waters with something less extreme first (sportwagen 4motion).

What he said...Mercedes seems to be trying SO HARD with their new styling and it makes them look like a Kia

Re: Automotive News Discussion - fiveoh2go - 09-24-2014

The new S550s haven't hit showrooms yet but the guys over at Ford Racing performance parts are already at work making them faster. They put out this teaser shot of some testing currently underway in Michigan. Vids are forthcoming, supposedly.

This is the four cylinder model BTW.

HEY. Don't insult my Kia.

This:

looks way better than this:

[Image: cars-2014-benz-cla250-edition-mercedes-w...-38150.jpg]

My problem with the Mercs is that they seem to be continuing the tradition of trickling down styling elements from the flagship S-class and CLS, which is fine, but they're being lazy as shit about it.

The scallop in the side the CLS works because it's an enormous car, but it just looks looks doofy on the CLA. Same with the massive star in the grill, and the fact that the grill and headlights look like they belong to a car that's at least twice the size. Now the C-class sort of has the same problems. :dunno:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 09-24-2014

But Joey, you can pay extra to get a light-up Mercedes star in the grille!!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 09-24-2014

^saw one of those on the way in to work this morning

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Mike - 09-24-2014

What? CLA? Yeah, they look like shit. Sadly, we're more their target market with that pile (young professionals... not car enthusiasts).
