Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - Jake - 11-07-2011

I'm waiting to hear back from a few friends... might have a few more spots filled for ya.

ALSO: Food after karting... anyone down for Capital Ale House? Lauren mentioned it to Joey and apparently there are two of them within 15 minutes of G-Force.

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - JustinG - 11-07-2011

There is one downtown, one in southside, and there is one in Innsbrook off of Broad St just off of 64, Innbrook is probably your best bet. Those going back to JMU just hop off 64, and those headed back to Nova, can just go another mile West on 64 and hit 295 -> 95. Metric shit ton of beer, and I havent had a bad thing on the menu. May I recommend a Burger or the Cuban Sandwich Smile

Easiest way to get there once you leave G-Force is 64W, Exit 180B Gaskins North, Left onto Broad St, 2-3 lights, Right onto Cox Rd (turning lane merges onto Cox, Silver Diner on the corner), Immediately get into the left lane, Capital Ale will be your first left, next to a Wells Fargo.

Now im even more jealous, Capital Ale and Karting.......

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - Jake - 11-07-2011

Well I think that decides that.

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - Sully - 11-08-2011

bump

Plus, Capital Ale House sounds like a plan

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - kcook - 11-08-2011

put me down for teh karting.

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - Jake - 11-10-2011

Mike D. and Mike P. are both in for this.

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-10-2011

Ryan Strang is also in for this. How many more spots do we need to fill?

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up) - Sully - 11-10-2011

Ryan would be the last alumni spot, and then we need to fill 5 more spots that were for students. I have one letting me know tonight otherwise those are all open at $40 a spot

Surprised I'm the first one to leave a post-race comment. First of all, loved the new track - that tight right-hander made for great overtaking opportunities heading into the next hairpin (I know some people say no overtaking in hairpin - I say its okay if they know you're there). Only complaint I heard was that you have nowhere to rest. Well, nor do F1 drivers in Monaco or NASCAR drivers at Bristol. Lots of bumping and quite a few spins but no big wrecks and everyone was behaving themselves under yellow. Our kart (team 6 - kart 4) picked up a bad vibration at the end which wasn't ideal for me nor Matt but I still had fun (I'll let him say if he did or didn't). Looking forward do doing it all again in the spring! Looking forward to some pictures too... (hint, hint)

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up Full) - ScottyB - 11-13-2011

had a great time. i am sore as hell and my back and ribs are killing me. i actually have a huge welt on my spine, but hey, padded seats are for sissies. some of you fools i haven't seen in the better part of 5 or 6 years (dating myself here) so it was good to catch up and trade paint. speaking of which, you guys are animals....i guess that's what happens when you put a bunch of NoVa drivers together on one track, heh. there were some legendary punts. i think everyone has a good battle story or two and i saw some nice back-and-forth dogfights out there. it looked like everyone was pretty aggressive at the beginning, then everyone calmed down and got faster, then in the last 30 minutes everyone got tired and it all went to hell again

anyway, i liked the new track arrangement alot - i like technical tracks and there was more of a reward for focus on really consistent laps on this track compared to the last version. i think there were less ample places for passing though, and maybe some rushed passing as a result (pointing the finger right at me as much as anyone here) that focused heavy on the low speed turns like the hairpin and pit-out turn. i would have LOVED the track as it is but with the last chicane on the back straight taken out. i think the new open entry to the hairpin is a great change though.

but you know what, it was still silly fun and it was a nail biter to the end for our Team 1. RJ and G drove like bawses and Kevin was cutting up the field like it was his job. we got bested by just 7 seconds overall in the last session by Team 4(?) i think. i had the 5th and last (8th) leg's duty and despite our lead from the pits going into the final 15 minutes, after a few laps every time i looked over my shoulder in the tight turns the #13 kart was getting closer, and eventually i was waving goodbye....NEMESIIISSSSS! i wish i could have driven longer, because mentally i was pissed i couldn't hang and got so focused on following the postion of #13 up the track that i literally drove right into a wall at one point and went up on 2 wheels  . if anyone got that on their GoPro i will stab you in your sleep btw. by the time i calmed down and started dropping lap times again it was game over. G actually drove for a second team so i had a chance to battle with him which was great since our speeds were roughly the same. he also drove against RJ at one point which was a good fight.

as for contact, one of the Epic Punts of the day goes to RJ getting blasted into the wall like a champ outside pit-out. i wouldn't be surprised if he can't bend his neck today. i also witnessed a nice t-bone in the hairpin accompanied by some language that probably wasn't "tallyho govenor, fine day for a bit of competitive trackwork, eh? i find your passing habits a bit rash but surely we could take up this conversation further over of a glass of scotch". lots of action from smaller 90 degree spins in the hairpin. as for me, i know i spun Kaan 180 into the sweeper after the last chicane due to sloppy braking and definitely f'd someone over in the hairpin after trying to get a nose up the inside but failing to turn in hard enough...whoever you were, i put my arm out to stupidly try to grab your cowl and pull your kart straight because i felt so bad. then i realized that was retarded and dangerous and just drove on feeling embarrassed. sorry! i hate making cheap moves like that.

anyway, you guys just care about pictures so here's a few and a link to the 'bucket account, just about 60 pictures. never really had time to screw with the camera settings so its mostly washed out flash shots but whatever. i tried to get a shot of everyone but between manning the marker board and driving i know i missed a bunch of people.

May not have been you, but one lap I was following a car that was following a kart going relatively slowly - we had just gone into the left-hander that comes after pit entry and the kart tried to passed the lap car on the outside...and slid right into the right-hand side wall, lifting the right two wheels up into the air. Dunno if that was you and I didn't get it on camera, but it was pretty awesome to watch.

what do you mean opposite lock lol? I'm the first picture Big Grin drifting the kart I might add hah

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up Full) - ScottyB - 11-13-2011

haha, NO, thankfully that was not me. but awesome none the less. my little braindead moment happened on the inside wall right before the hairpin.

Was an awesome time as usual!

Yeah, a little sore... was a bit rough heading to the pedal bike race today, but I had a great time and it was good to see everyone

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up Full) - Jake - 11-14-2011

Had a blast... although I did wake up Sunday with a lot of sore spots. Got ran into a wall near the back hairpin at close to full speed which banged up my left side pretty good. Got a good hit on Joey right as we started (total accident, I swear) and T-boned Cody at the hairpin (I won that "late braking challenge" fair and square).

Otherwise, we did about as expected for a team with two experienced drivers and two n00bs. Totally okay with that. I like the new course layout - if you set yourself up right, you can still go pretty fast down that back "straight that isn't a straight" part.

What do you all say, should we do it again in the spring? Wink

Re: G-Force Kart Enduro Nov. 12th (Sign-up Full) - Goodspeed - 11-14-2011

That was fun - glad to see everyone come out and to meet people old & new again. Thanks for the pics Scotty! My jury is still out on the new course - it was definitely more rigorous and challenging, which is cool, but that invariably means it was much harder to get into a smooth rhythm and stay there, like the old course. That last sweeper/fast section before the hairpin was a mean sum'bitch, my kart beat me to death there - I swear I was getting four wheels up in the air hopping around :vomit:

I agree on this statement, but I actually got into a much better rhythm at this course than the previous course. I like the new course infinitely better. Its harder to pass, but it was a nice challenge.
That said, im a little disappointed that GForce delayed the start because one of their transponders wasnt working and kept the clock running. I was also annoyed that our kart broke a throttle cable and we lost 2 laps compared to everyone, but thats part of kart racing and you really cant blame GForce for a freak accident. At least they brought out the red flag, and we didnt lose more than 2 laps, if they hadnt, we would have been like 20 laps down
