- Dave - 09-07-2004 the Z is called the Fairlady in JDM land. You would be getting these badges though, since they belong with your car's generation... http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/ ... 3094-30P01 - Mike - 09-07-2004 the chapins have 3 turbos. that is cool. - Dragon - 09-07-2004 Sweet ride John, Ryan told me about it before y'all headed down and made me promise not to say a word to no-one. - JackoliciousLegs - 09-07-2004 how much $$$? 130k on a boosted track car? well... nissan reliability... - JohnC - 09-07-2004 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:how much $$$? 130k on a boosted track car? well... nissan reliability... Yeah, I hear you on the 130k. Frankly though, this car is in remarkable condition, and I'm not worried that anything *major* will go wrong, but I am going to give it some extensive maintenance work and do everything I can to prolong the life of the engine. I'm going to do a compression test along with the 60k maintenance, we'll see what happens.. In any case, I got a pretty good price on it and have budgeted for several thousand dollars worth of maintenance and upgrades to keep it running reliably for many years to come. - Mike - 09-07-2004 ALWAYS DO A COMPRESSION TEST BEFORE YOU BUY A CAR - JackoliciousLegs - 09-07-2004 except when it's a rotary and compression tests mean nothing... - .RJ - 09-07-2004 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:except when it's a rotary and compression tests mean nothing... Dumbass - G.Irish - 09-07-2004 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:except when it's a rotary and compression tests mean nothing... Wha? So if you get 1 psi of compression across all of the faces you're still good to go? - .RJ - 09-07-2004 Just watch the gauge as you turn it over and hold the bleed open, it will give you a very good idea of whats going on. Not as good as the factory tester, but not many places have them. - BLINGMW - 09-07-2004 +1 vote for MMTTZ, that's great! 8) Congrats on the buy, so much for keeping it secret eh? - JohnC - 09-07-2004 MichaelJComputer Wrote:ALWAYS DO A COMPRESSION TEST BEFORE YOU BUY A CAR Yes, this is definitely the correct thing to do. So why didn't I do it, especially considering the age and mileage of the car? A few reasons, none of them good: Test drive was incredibly strong, idle was smooth, no strange exhaust colors, getting to the rear plugs requires an act of Congress and several months of labor.... So was it a bonehead thing to not check, and was I blinded by the boost? Yes. A thousand times yes. And if the compression test turns out poorly, you can say "i told you so", and I'll come out a few grand ahead after parting it out... Stay tuned... - .RJ - 09-07-2004 I'm with J on this one. Car ran great. - ScottyB - 09-07-2004 nissan's VG series has a history of being really stout engines. i wouldn't worry about it
- Kaan - 09-07-2004 my old motor, well i didnt do a compression test either.... but we arent talking madza.... we are talking honda... and when RJ and i broker her down it looked in great shape for a motor that died with 184k miles on her. the new motor tested out great, but i dont have the numbers i would have to yap it up with the BandT guys to find out... if they remember. - JackoliciousLegs - 09-08-2004 .RJ Wrote:Just watch the gauge as you turn it over and hold the bleed open, it will give you a very good idea of whats going on.hehehe... that only works on some testers. Others.... it just bounces around at 30psi. Some people claim to be able to read that... i don't. Ask rex.. you shoulda seen that bitch bounce. |
