Would there be room for me in case I can't stay with my friend? Just for Friday night..if not, that's totally ok!

We're going to miss you guys this weekend! Also, everyone who sees Matt Leech on Friday needs to Congratulate him, cause he's getting married on Sunday.

Yeah, I think Justin was planning on bringing an air mattress so it should work out.

Ok that works. I'll bring my sleeping bag too

Blah its going to be a mid-night rush to get the m3 ready for this weekend. Stupid rubber exhaust hangers failing at the track cracked a header after I was too lazy/didnt have time to replace the rubber hangers. Oh well, gives me an excuse to headerwrap the headers while im in there.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - Emily - 10-07-2010

Are you guys still planning on going out to dinner Friday evening?

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - JustinG - 10-07-2010

Tavern?!?! Smile

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - Jake - 10-08-2010

Dinner on Friday, yes... somewhere in Danville i.e. NOT the Tavern (Justin, that's for Saturday night!).

We usually hit up Ham's. It's close to the hotel and slightly above marginal for quality of food.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - Emily - 10-08-2010

Ok sweet Smile And what time should that be around?

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-08-2010

uh actually tavern is tonight because its Matt's only (and last friday) being not married. At least that was the latest plan. Sooo....Tavern.

Gotcha. Is this "tavern = get wasty-face" or "tavern = dinner and dranks" because that will determine what we do.

Emily - we'll be getting to Danville about 7 or 7:30, I'll give you a call when we are getting close.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-08-2010

Jake ill give you call about what their going to do. Im sure Matt and a few othres will be getting wasted, but im a bit tired for that tonight so ill probably just do dinner and drinks and then pass out.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - TorinoCobra070 - 10-08-2010

I'll probably be getting down there a little sooner than I thought. I am going to leave straight from work instead of messing around. Should probably be there around 830 or 9. Guess I'll just call when I'm close to town and see where everyone is.

great to see everyone. i finally got to put some faces with the names. i haven't been to the track in a long time, but coming down the entrance road to the bridge and hearing the Group 4 cars screaming by before even seeing them gets the heart going. everyone did a great job driving and working on Saturday when I was there. thanks Maeng and Chan for the rides and re-igniting the crack pipe.

i took my crap kodak point 'n shoot and got a few photos.

omg I died laughing when I Saw the "ima eat you" picture.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - Jake - 10-11-2010

Well done Scott, the "Ima Eat You" pic is classic. The Miata was slow but I could pass the MG with gusto each time. Probably because it had ~40 horsepower. And that Caddy was all over the place. Props for having it out, but....

So, home from my first track weekend evAr. I took a big ol' hit on the go fast crack pipe and now I'm hooked. My friends Carrie & Joe let me use their track-ready Miata, which is why my car appears to have been repainted white whenever I'm out there.

Got to the track Saturday, did the first classroom session, find out that Carrie is my instructor. Sweet. I know her, she knows me, she knows her car. We went out and got through the pace lap, couple more, then it was passing time. We had a bit more confidence than Godzirra (who Maeng was instructing) and some E92 M3 driver, so I can say that I passed a GT-R and M3 in a Miata now. That was entertaining.

The other Saturday classroom sesh was good. Dan is a great teacher and gave us different concepts to focus on each time we went out. Ryan (Scott's brother, blue Miata in one pic) was also doing a DE1 so we started comparing notes. Whenever Dan addressed some Vette owner and said "you don't need more power" we'd inevitably give each other "the look" because, well, we could use like 30 more hp. Just a little more.

My 3rd session on Saturday was just fantastic. I was consistent, looking up and ahead, passing some people on sheer luck (not power, we know that), and overall doing very well.

Hung out Saturday night, picked up 4 dudes in my Miata (par for the course at a MM track weekend) and efficiently transported them to Maeng/Channing's paddock space where it was Cold Beer Time. We were all too exhausted to get over to the Tavern, so we headed to the hotel and PTFO'd around 9:45.

Sunday was another early day. More classroom, first session, same consistency and smoothness came out from Saturday. Carrie was pleased as was I. We went out for the second session and halfway through, she asked me to pit so she could get out. Solo time!! It was unnerving at first, with nobody in my ear, reminding me where to brake/turn/etc, but I liked having that responsibility solely on me.

Got to solo it for the third session of Sunday as well. It was a challenge but a big learning experience. I experimented with some threshold braking, and successfully locked up 3 different wheels on 3 different occasions.

DJ let me borrow his GoPro for the 3rd session, so whenever I get that video I'll post a few laps here. My line was not the best - I was more focused on braking zones and some turn in points that I had missed earlier.

This is addicting. It's way too much fun. Getting a point-by at turn 6, then blasting up the uphill esses, foot in it, in 4th gear, is just awesome. Then flooring it up the back straight, waiting to brake until you think it's *almost* too late, slowing from 110 to ~85 and turning in, a bit more braking and then turn again and back on the throttle some... wait for the dip going into turn 17 and then gasgasgas, shift, gasgasgas to pass whichever lumbering 400-hp car you rode the ass of through all those turns.

Carrie and Joe have already offered up the car for other events... if I can scrape together some cash, November at Summit Point is GAME ON.

Sounded awesome.

Also with the GTR I heard it was floor it through a turn and the AWD will magically get you out. At least some guy said that, its like you have to relearn how to drive, haha.

wow john, didnt know that was your old car, pretty sweet to see it where it belongs.

Re: Oct 9th and 10th, NASA at VIR anyone? - getfast - 10-11-2010

Yup, sold it to the Turners six months ago. Was my dd for ~4.5 years prior. Fantastic car then and now, one of the best 'dual duty' machines ever created. http://www.getfastphoto.com/Cars/Our-Cars/E36M3/
