Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jake - 05-18-2010 This is looking great!! Let me know if you need/want help doing things in the evenings or on weekends. I'm at JMU for Maymester and wouldn't mind the occasional trip to Woodstock for some wrenchin. I'm off work at 6 M-Thurs. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - DavidL - 05-18-2010 Very cool! Keep the updates coming, looks awesome so far! Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-19-2010 $450 order from Year One today...all I got was freakin bolts and rubbers. Hopefully going to get the exhaust ordered later today or tomorrow. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Goodspeed - 05-19-2010 Scotty, where is the "Go Jeff, Go!" picture... Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - ScottyB - 05-19-2010 you called?
Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - CaptainHenreh - 05-20-2010 ScottyB Wrote:you called? Maybe it's time to change the color of the car to purple? Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-20-2010 I think that picture is a curse...it results in the project failing famously. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-20-2010 340 4bbl intake, OEM valve covers, and headers all painted up. ![]() ![]()
Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - .RJ - 05-20-2010 What did you paint the headers with? Will it hold up? Will it blend? Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - CaptainHenreh - 05-20-2010 Needs moar sixpack. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-20-2010 sixpack = complicated fail. Give me a solid 4bbl any day. Headers were painted with a 2000degree header paint. Hold up? Probably not. I hope so but probably not. I might take them back off later and have them powder coated if they get to looking like shit. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-22-2010 More progress this past friday. Got a carb (1970 Carter Thermoquad). New stainless steel hardware for the engine. Got a new heater core and cleaned up the heater box. Doors are cut in and will go on monday. Oil pan is stripped and ready to paint. Engine should be painted up Monday. Here are pics! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also dug out my 1971 tags!
Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Steve85 - 05-22-2010 just curious, are you doing the painting work on the body? Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-22-2010 Our body man Phil is doing all the painting. I can paint, I will get in there some but hes going to do the main body. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jake - 05-22-2010 More curiosity... I dig the purple (a lot) but what's the reasoning for the orange motor parts? Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - fiveoh2go - 05-22-2010 Jake Wrote:More curiosity... I dig the purple (a lot) but what's the reasoning for the orange motor parts? That's how most all the Mopars came from the factory back in the day. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Jeff - 05-22-2010 fiveoh2go Wrote:Jake Wrote:More curiosity... I dig the purple (a lot) but what's the reasoning for the orange motor parts? Well, some of them anyway. An orange engine denoted "high performance" Basically anything 340 or bigger was a "muscle car" and the engine was orange. Engines smaller then 340 in a car and anything else (even big block in truck, RV, or boat) were corporate blue in color. This 318 engine was originally Corp blue. We pained it black with chrome accents when we redid it years ago. Now we are going orange to simulate a 340 4bbl. Corp blue ![]() Our Challenger's broadcast sheet. Discovered stuck in the coils under the rear seat. ![]() I scanned these two photos as well. Polaroids taken during the first tear down.
Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - ScottyB - 05-23-2010 kick ass Jeff! i like the historical aspect you're putting into this with all the old memorabilia. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - JustinG - 05-24-2010 Yea....Dodge had Orange engines, Ford had "Ford Blue" not sure about Chevys. Even the new SRT8s have an orange block. Re: MM Muscle - 1971 Dodge Challenger Coupe - Steve85 - 05-24-2010 Chevy had mostly orange also. Great classic engine color no matter who the mfr is. |
