Are you watching other teams aside from the Caps? I don't like watching the Caps shit all over my hopes and dreams.

Yep just watch the caps break my heart every year.

Though I don't mind watching Kathryn Tappen's funbags on NHL network every once in a while.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JustinG - 10-01-2014

Zombie Thread.

So I think we are gonna kill DTV and get back our $100 a month.

Looking at HULU + and then networks just adding episodes to their websites I do not see the point of keeping DTV.

We don't watch sports enough to care, every show we watch is on Hulu+ or on the channels website.

I have a Fios Login to get any channels requiring a provider, so why not.

I have a Chromecast, and can do Hulu+ through my PS4, but leaning toward a Roku 3 cause it just seems easier for the living room and it wont put extra wear and tear on my PS4, or do you think the PS4 will be ok?

Thinking about a PS TV for the bedroom when it comes out in a few days, cause then I can play destiny while in the comfort of my own bed, or maybe just get another Chromecast and then my current Chromecast for the TV in the office.

Whats the negative here, what am I missing?

Re: Dish or DirecTV - Jake - 10-01-2014

So the thing I don't like about Chromecast is that it requires some other device to play "host" - be it your phone, tablet, whatever. I'd rather have a media device that can work 100% without something else feeding it.

I've got two Apple TV's and love them, they will do Netflix, Hulu and a bunch of the TV networks' channels (apps, whatever they are). ATV will not work with Amazon Prime so if you want that compatibility, you're S.O.L.

I have played with the Rokus at friends' places and they're really good. Very well-done with a good interface and remote. There is a version of the Roku 3 that will let you plug headphones into the remote and divert your audio for late-night watching.

Thing about the PS4 vs. Apple TV or Roku is that the ATV/Roku are designed to be used with a remote control and have interfaces that support that. The PlayStations are moreso designed for controller use, and I just don't want to be wielding a PS4 controller around to watch TV.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JustinG - 10-01-2014

Yea, that is a complaint of mine for the Chromecast as well. I think the Roku3 is the best fit for my Living Room, it will play everythig (hulu +, share web page from TV, Disney Jr, Amazon, Netflix). I also like the fact you can search and it pulls up results across the device. So I want to watch a movie, search for said movie, it pulls up every option and the price of all.

We watch Minimal TV elsewhere in the house, so pulling my phone out to cast something to the TV isn't a big deal.

If PS4 and Harmony would get their shit straight my Harmony remote would work with the PS4 like previous Harmony remotes did on the PS3.

I think that's the coolest feature of the Roku boxes. Hands-down.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - Kaan - 10-01-2014

we went through 3 roku boxes in 3 years. first was a refurb, the last two were brand new. we haven't had an issue with the Apple TV in the 1.5 years we have been using it. the one down side is no amazon prime. if they did do amazon prime I'd actually get an antenna for the football games and just stick with Netflix, hulu, amazon combo

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JPolen01 - 10-01-2014

+1 for Roku. That's what I used to watch HBO Go and Netflix throughout college. I wish I kept mine instead of giving to my brother because now I don't have any streaming capabilities for the bedroom tv.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - Evan - 10-01-2014

coworker has the roku stick, he likes it a lot more than chromecast. it has amazon too and its cheap. if i didnt use ps3/ps4 thats what i would pick up.

the amazon fireTV is a pretty awesome box with android gaming ability, for more $$

is appleTV still 720p only? last i looked at it, it was pretty much a joke and really only for people already stuck in apple walled-garden content jail.

It's been 1080p for quite some time. My views echo Kaan's - if you don't care about Amazon Prime, it's the superior device. But, h8rs gonna hate hate hate hate hate.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JustinG - 10-01-2014

Prime is kinda a deal breaker, it is where we purchase/rent/watch most of our movies. Matter of fact there really is no difference between Netflix and Prime. I think I said this earlier, but I am probably just gonna cancel Netflix until house of cards is back on.

Sounds like you need an XB1.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JustinG - 10-01-2014

Ps4 does it all, just not sure how i feel about running it as my primary entertainment box. Doubt that it really matters though.

so it does less than other devices, for more money, but its better because its apple :bootyshake:

...except work with a Harmony.

Re: Dish or DirecTV - JustinG - 10-01-2014

Think that was worth the extra $100?

Re: Dish or DirecTV - Apoc - 10-01-2014

Considering you're talking about buying an add-on device, maybe. :-P

Re: Dish or DirecTV - Ken - 10-01-2014

I have a two Roku 3's and they're awesome, that being said though the XB1 is still my main device.

What about Amazon Fire TV? I think it's on sale now for $84, only negative is that it doesn't have HBOGO yet.

I did this with my 360 and i nuked it... then went to Rokus and nuked 3 of them. we have direct tv for news, sports, and whatever show we are actually caught up on.

we have prime because my boss handed it out for christmas to everyone...

I'm no tech genius but the apple TV is super easy to use. the netflix and hulu interface were better then the Rokus. the apple TVs one fault is the prime issue IMHO. if thats where you do your watching, just buy a new roku every year.
