Did you take the intermediate shaft out? Did you take the clutch cover off between the trans and the oil pan?

- D_Eclipse9916 - 07-24-2008

To pull a trans we have had to shift it back and forth, back and forth with a long screwdriver before. But typically after that first few inches it pops off unless there is a bolt still in it. And ditto to RJs statement I forgot one bolt on my inspection plate when pulling off my trans..lol.

yes, yes. i used the freaking helms... guess i'll sit down there with it again and recheck every bolt.

- .RJ - 07-25-2008

Rear mount? Only need to remove the 2x19's not the whole mount.

- Mike - 07-25-2008

it's loose from the trans so i would assume that means i got them both Tongue

honda mtf or redline 75w90 for the itr trans? everybody says something different on HT... i don't give a damn, quite frankly... just never dealt with these LSD thingies... oh and the trans will be seeing much lower revs than it is used to... that has to be worth mentioning.
the ls trans is going to get honda mtf...

It's a helical diff (if it's a type R trans) so you don't need any "friction modifiers" or anything like that for it. Just use whatever honda tells you to use, or the redline equivalent.

Don't overthink it.

Motul Gear 300.

Butter shifting, even when cold and it holds up to track heat better than the honda stuff.

Both? There's 3 mounts (front, top, rear)

The mount in the front isnt essential though - so you may not have one (I dont remember).

Double check that everything is off and if it is it will wiggle loose and drop. I assume you got the starter.\? The starter, inspection plate, mounts and bellhousing bolts are the only things holding the trans to the block.

- Mike - 07-25-2008

yep, got all 3 mounts. front, rear, and top. rear is loose, top is off completely, and front is loose.

then there are the front and rear stiffeners... gsrs are the only ones with the front, and my rear has about a 1/2" gap between it and the trans now.

cover is removed and in the garage.

the starter bolt is one of the 4 on the top... i reverified they were all gone this morning.

might just need some more wiggling/hands... the front i can get an easy inch of separation on.

or i just need to go back in and recheck everything in the helms.

my stupid ass didn't label any of the bolts since i had planned on being done this all in a single weekend and would have remembered where they all went based on how i laid them on the driveway... so i get to figure that all out when i remove the trans from the civic instead Tongue lesson learned.

- .RJ - 07-25-2008

Starter should have two bolts....

I know where all the fasteners back in.

- Mike - 07-25-2008

should the starter be removed completely?

- .RJ - 07-25-2008

Mike Wrote:should the starter be removed completely?

Yes. Disconnected and off the car.

- Mike - 07-25-2008

ohhhh i must have missed a bolt then Tongue surprised i have ripped it in half already.... hehehe

- Mike - 07-25-2008

sho'nuff, it was that 2nd hidden starter bolt. bitch is m'fing out!

- Mike - 10-15-2008

finally got around to buttoning her up today.

changed the oil, fresh honda mtf, topped off all fluids, take it for a spin... and the radiator seems to have gone bad (it was leaking at the top where the plastic meets the metal. or could it be a pinched hose or something? car's temp was fine and steady.

- Maengelito - 10-15-2008

the seam between the plastic and metal is usually the first place a radiator will leak. My LS back in the day went awhile leaking there before I got it fixed. I never saw a change in the water temp from the dash gauge but I dont actually know if it ran hot or not since those arent too accurate. I'm sure you could find a stock radiator on the cheap if there's someone who upgraded theirs to an all metal one on HT or something like that.

- Mike - 10-15-2008

fizzle. yeah, looks like it'll cost me 100ish if i can't find something used.
