Interesting. - Mike - 09-11-2007 hurro, i've been a mac user since my job change 3 weeks ago... i have a new 17" macbook pro... i'd recommend the 15", though. pros: -build quality. thing is very solid feeling. -screen. beautiful. -mac os. it's a healthy change for me. for better or worse? i still don't know, but i'm welcoming it. cons: -costs. ALL hardware is a fortune. the initial cost, the cost of an extra power supply ($80), the cost of a keyboard. that said, they are all quite nifty. -single button mice. i understand this is a "pride" of mac, but it doesn't work... get over being different already. -desktop/window usage. windows wins with ease here... handling minimized apps, multiple windows inside a single app... all a pain. -sleeping. i thought my dell was bad when it went to sleep, but this thing takes the cake. -games. i play games on my work laptops... this thing isn't that great for that. - JackoliciousLegs - 09-11-2007 Evan Wrote:Quote:If you want to go spec for spec, you're better of comparing the hp dv2500 series. It's a slightly smaller screen, but uses more similar components.lol, so you tell me my comparison is bogus for saying the macbook is smaller, so you compare the macbook to a smaller HP? Thats classic. Evan, I know that you can do just fine with a Windows laptop. I just know that when my friend Justin decided to buy a 15" lappy a couple months after mine, he praised the superior specs... and then it arrived. It had fan openings everywhere. It was heavier. Then he booted it up. It took twice as long to boot. It was loaded with crap. His ran games though. I guess his won... I'm sorry for arguing Evan. I'll help you out here. Windows laptops are cheaper. You can do just as much on them, and more than on Macs. Mike, how much do power supplies cost on windows laptops? http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/cate ... ry_id=6554 Single button mice... hold two fingers on the pad and click. I also use a wireless mouse with two buttons. Sleeping... does yours not go quickly? Mine sleeps and wakes in like 2 seconds. Finally, window usage... You'll get the hang of it. I can navigate just as fast on a mac as I can in windows. Apple + tab. Apple + ~. Hot corners and expose make it easy. That's all there is. - Mike - 09-11-2007 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:Mike, how much do power supplies cost on windows laptops? Power supplies: Any workplace has seventeen dozen dell power supplies lying around... I'd never think about buying one. Mouse: I know about two finger and click... it sucks. I use a Logitech MX Revolution most of the time. Sleeping: Sometimes it just doesn't wake up. Sometimes it has to be awoken twice. Very rarely does it work as expected. Boot times: The machine doesn't have any crap loaded on it... It takes forever to start up. Windows: I know all the shortcuts... It still sucks. - Ginger - 09-12-2007 I figured I'd update the thread.... I bought a laptop. But I'm not telling what it is until it gets here. - Andy - 09-12-2007 asteele2 Wrote:I figured I'd update the thread.... I bought a laptop. That's really gay. - HAULN-SS - 09-12-2007 Andy Wrote:asteele2 Wrote:I figured I'd update the thread.... My goals were pretty straight forward and I don't claim to be a power user... I just think web pictures are lame. The fruit of the research and help here will be a lot cooler showing it doing what I bought it for than some stupid hokey press picture. - Andy - 09-12-2007 asteele2 Wrote:The fruit of the research and help here will be a lot cooler showing it the thing in use for what I intended.
