Beneath the dignity of a response. - Mike - 05-03-2007 mrbaggio Wrote:Wow that's you found out how much they make????? In one case, yes. - Apoc - 05-03-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:.RJ Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:a few weeks? ...and yet you responded to say you weren't responding. How did these people get such high starting salaries anyway? Is it based purely on time in the work force? - Mike - 05-03-2007 That's the frustration! Nothing adds up! Age and sex is all I can plainly see. - Apoc - 05-03-2007 Well... in that case I'm guessing it has a lot to do with the salary they came from. Even if you get measely raises every year, being in the work force 2-3x as long as you adds up and switching jobs usually gets you ~10-15%. My guess is they've been around long enough that they were already making 20% more than you before they started there. In some cases, you really CAN'T make up for experience, even if it's not applicable... but 30k is a big difference for the same job description. - Mike - 05-03-2007 Yeah... There are 2 examples... Lady 1: Mid 30s, art history major, worked at a "QA job" for five years before this. Computer idiot (can't share folders), video idiot... Lady 2: 30ish, no college, no QA experience, but has used our software as a customer for a couple years. Me: 25, computer science major, lead the team. - Apoc - 05-03-2007 You could always whip out the ole sexism accusation if you wanted to get nasty. "It seems to me that you're paying them more because you want to touch their vajeen and I think that's inappropriate." - Mike - 05-03-2007 i've looked in to it, but reverse sexism is friggen impossible to win. - CaptainHenreh - 05-03-2007 Mike Wrote:i've looked in to it, but sexism is friggen impossible to win. Fixed that for you. Sorry, pet peeve of mine. I think you should document all of this, and if your boss comes through with a lame excuse in 3 weeks, go over his head. - Mike - 05-03-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Fixed that for you. Sorry, pet peeve of mine. it's arguable... Wikipedia Wrote:Sexism against males is often known as "reverse sexism." There really isn't much documentation to do since I'm not supposed to know what people make. It is my boss' boss that will also be doing the HR thing on my behalf as well. Over them and I feel I'd start tarnishing my image... I'd rather just go with the sales/deployment position. - white_2kgt - 05-03-2007 .RJ Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:a few weeks? HR doesn't need to be involved in salary re-negotiation, here if I take my 2 weeks letter to my boss, he will take me to see his boss and his boss will ask me how much, if we agree on a number I stay, if not they take the letter, no HR involved. Each 2-tier manager knows how much wiggle room there is in everyones salary. Mike, he's blowing smoke up your arse, to busy to deal w/ his employees? Please. what a joke. - Apoc - 05-03-2007 This might actually be a good topic for another thread but I'm with Rex. Reverse-isms really annoy me. The fact that someone being racist against whites is reverse-racism is racist in an of itself. - Apoc - 05-03-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:.RJ Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:a few weeks? While I agree with you that managers know the ranges, it still has to be approved by HR is most cases... and they usually have the power to nix the boss' suggestion. That said, it's a little shady that he's "too busy" to make sure his employees are happy. I mean honestly, it couldn't take more than a half hour to write the email or call, right? - .RJ - 05-03-2007 Apoc Wrote:it's a little shady that he's "too busy" to make sure his employees are happy. I mean honestly, it couldn't take more than a half hour to write the email or call, right? Yep. At annual review time with my last company, my boss kept blowing it off for a month - and when we finally sat down, he had nothing to say and my "raise" (if you could call it that) would still be retroactive to the 1-year date. It wasnt, and no one wanted to do anything about it. Thats when I decided I'd be gone at the end of the year. - HAULN-SS - 05-03-2007 Actually - if I'm not mistaken chad, we can look up the ranges ourselves eh? I know I know the range I'm in right now. Might not be able to look up people in a different tier, but I think you can find your own tier salary ranges - which gives a good idea when it comes time to knowing what kind of percentage of the possible raise you got for your position. - white_2kgt - 05-03-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Actually - if I'm not mistaken chad, we can look up the ranges ourselves eh? Not really my point. I could care less what my 'level' is, I just want them to show me the money and that's what I say, when I get this BS about your topping out at your current level I just say so? Promote me or give me a cash out. At LM you always want to be at the lowest tier in your level, that keeps your compo ratio high, netting you more $$$ at raise time. Or just tell them to hell w/ it and negotiate every year for more money  - Mike - 05-03-2007 Yeah, I've found the secret to getting more money is to not accept any bullshit and just make demands. If you're worth it, you'll do well for yourself. - HAULN-SS - 05-03-2007 Hrmm..that's good info - being that I just started, i'm about 25% of the way in the range for my level - and the manager was telling me some shit about wanting to get to the next 'level' before you get too close to the top in the current level so that you get more raises..but I was thinking it'd be sweet to be somewhere in the middle already by the time the next level starts. I wasn't sure that was negotiable or not. I also didnt negotiate any on starting salary, and I want to kick myself for that. - white_2kgt - 05-03-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Hrmm..that's good info - being that I just started, i'm about 25% of the way in the range for my level - and the manager was telling me some shit about wanting to get to the next 'level' before you get too close to the top in the current level so that you get more raises..but I was thinking it'd be sweet to be somewhere in the middle already by the time the next level starts.
