- Apoc - 11-08-2007 Well... I don't think you could watch the show without being interested in it. That is, of course, unless you want McGregor's manhood. - .RJ - 11-08-2007 asteele2 Wrote:Last time I checked none of your were even remotely interested in this kind of riding except for... the movie. Nor the bikes they ride, or even really riding in less than idea conditions or at the track. Well you also said you werent going to buy anything - you're still riding a silly sportbike everywhere. I rode mine today too, so, fuckit. It works and I dont really give a shit. I am looking for something else, but I dont feel like I need to "redifine" jack shit about my riding. There's a lot of things that 'interest' me that I'll enjoy watching on TV/Movies/etc that dont go any further at the moment - who knows, maybe its something I'll get into later, like a lot of other things. Its entertaining and I'll keep watching it and I dont have to be busting my ass doing it on my own. I also like watching the show about everest thats on now - and having never climbed a mountain I couldnt walk up and I dont know shit about it but it entertains me - and they pay a lot of $$ for support/vehicles/guides too. - Apoc - 11-08-2007 Beyond the Limit is the shit. I didn't watch this week's episode yet. Those guys have Sherpas run the safety lines and I don't respect them any less for it... just like I don't have any less respect for some rich folk riding around the world with a truck to back them up. - Ginger - 11-08-2007 I do things differently. I don't understand why my lack of interest in people doing it in a different way than I would approach it, warrants such a negative reaction. It's not like my first post was "fuck those guys with their support vehicles and King Size Canopy Trail beds!" I just said I wasn't interested because they used support vehicles. I didn't realize this was a thread just for people to jump on the bandwagon. - .RJ - 11-08-2007 Apoc Wrote:Those guys have Sherpas run the safety lines And put oxygen tanks up and set up camp for them and bail them out when the shit hits the fan - what a bunch of poseurs! ![]() - .RJ - 11-08-2007 asteele2 Wrote:I just said I wasn't interested because they used support vehicles And you've assumed that the support vehicles are trailing them through the whole trip coddling them. The book was better than the DVD - its even got pictures - you can borrow them if you want. - Ginger - 11-08-2007 .RJ Wrote:asteele2 Wrote:I just said I wasn't interested because they used support vehicles Oh, I did? No, I didn't. WTF - why can't I have a differing opinion? - .RJ - 11-08-2007 asteele2 Wrote:WTF - why can't I have a differing opinion? Because you're orange. *I* think that your discounting of the trip because of the use of support vehicles is unreasonable, especially given how little they were used. - Apoc - 11-08-2007 .RJ Wrote:Because you're orange. LOL┬▓ - Ginger - 11-08-2007 .RJ Wrote:asteele2 Wrote:WTF - why can't I have a differing opinion? I don't see things the same... so what? - Evan - 11-08-2007 andrew has a point. with support vehicles, its just famous guys riding around. take away the fame of the riders and do you honestly believe it would have been a movie? Take away the support vehicles, and then there is a certain "man vs. wild" element in it that makes it MUCH more interesting IMO. - HAULN-SS - 11-08-2007 Evan Wrote:Take away the support vehicles, and then there is a certain "man vs. wild" element in it that makes it MUCH more interesting IMO. hilarious that you used that example! - Apoc - 11-08-2007 Evan Wrote:andrew has a point. You guys make it sound like there was a car 300' behind them at all times in case they got a boo boo. Were that the case, I agree with you but it really wasn't anything like that. - Ginger - 11-08-2007 Apoc Wrote:Evan Wrote:andrew has a point. That's the way you're reading it... but certainly not what I'm thinking. - Apoc - 11-08-2007 Your job as a poster to make readers understand. ![]() Couple that with the fact that you haven't seen a single episode and we can only figure that's what you mean. In conclusion, you suck! - Ginger - 11-08-2007 Hold on... I can't wait to see this, what must be, excellent docudrama about rich, famous guys riding around doing nothing that's really all that out of reach! There. Now that I'm on The Bandwagon is everything better? - Evan - 11-08-2007 Apoc Wrote:Evan Wrote:andrew has a point. you guys make it sound like it makes a difference if there was a crew 300' behind them or only around a few times during the trip. Do it without support and maybe Ill give a shit. Ill ask again. If they werent famous, woudl there be a book and tv show about it? - .RJ - 11-08-2007 Evan Wrote:Ill ask again. If they werent famous, woudl there be a book and tv show about it? Of course not - it'd be a post on some adventure riding forum with pictures taken by a P&S camera. I read those from time to time and they're every bit as entertaining. I wasted about 2 hours at work the other day reading about a trip through africa - I'll see if I can find the link. - Apoc - 11-08-2007 Evan Wrote:Ill ask again. If they werent famous, woudl there be a book and tv show about it? I think that's debateable. We have shows like Survivorman and Les Stroud wasn't famous when the show was conceived. Why did the network care about some random schmoe living in the woods for a week? You have shows like Man vs. Wild where there is a crew who another no-name on camera. I'm certain popularity had influence but I can't say with any certainty that's why the show exists... and neither can you. - Apoc - 11-08-2007 .RJ Wrote:I wasted about 2 hours at work the other day reading about a trip through africa - I'll see if I can find the link. If it's the one I think it is, they're actually friends of Luke from HT. He kept forwarding me pictures of Englishmen standing around BMWs and African children. To Evan, I'm not sure why fame really matters anyway. I mean, so what if the show didn't exist without his fame? Does that make it any less entertaining? Perhaps a bit contrived in the minds of the more "hardcore" but I don't think it's less entertaining. |
