- Myuki - 08-18-2006 ehn, here's my take. PS3 will get it's sales, and just die off earlier than planned. Howeer, with the other systems, it'll be the opposite. This game's winner is NINTENDO. Seriously, it's like they have the old Sony innovation. even if the wii-mote is a stupid idea, i feel so compelling to try it. and the DS is just a s uperior hand held system. When the DSL came out, i was on it day of. The PSP is more expensive, and seems more fragile. Plus, what the hell is a UMD? and what else uses it? Great, I get to buy all my movies again for the PSP. Oh, and the DS is region free. And they are releasing a mini SD adapter for it, so basically, it just matched the PSP in memory. But, this is a PS3/Sony thread. Sony will always be a leader in the electronics market. They have the name behind them for the most part, but in Japan, so many people trust Sony, and so many game companies in Japan put stuff out for the Playstation. However, with the new Blue-ray's, (which i saw at CompUSA, and it reminded me of when regular DVDs first came out, and CDs at 16x were fast) some smaller companies may not go to the PS3. THe gaming market has become very expensive. Hell, I'm struggling at 50 a game, I can't imagine more. (one reason i do not have a 360) I'd say, 400 is the most, absolute most I'd ever pay for the ps3, and it had better be amazing. Hell, I would have gotten a Sega Saturn for 499 if i actually had money when i was like 12-13. Right now, I have a DSL and a PS2, with modchip and hdloader. simple, effective, and quite enough for right now. - Evan - 08-18-2006 Myuki Wrote:When the DSL came out, i was on it day of.*snicker* btw- all the talk of who will "win" the next round of console wars is pointless fanboi talk - G.Irish - 08-18-2006 Evan Wrote:Myuki Wrote:When the DSL came out, i was on it day of.*snicker* *Ahem* And who correctly predicted the demise of Dreamcast??? - Apoc - 08-18-2006 Dreamcast was ahead of it's time... shame really 'cause it's still prolly my favorite system. - G.Irish - 08-18-2006 Honestly if Sega hadn't eroded customer confidence so much with the 32X, Sega CD, and Saturn, Dreamcast would've done awesome. It had far better games than PS2 for the first couple of years. Even today PS2 doesn't have anything that touches F355 Challenge... - BLINGMW - 08-18-2006 well except for 355 challenge. And there's no good reason why the game shouldn't have played just fine, they just made a fatal flaw with the setup of the stock controller. Maybe to force everyone to buy a wheel? :? - Goodspeed - 08-18-2006 I still say the most fun I ever had with a videogame was Goldeneye on N64.....best game ever - Feersty - 08-18-2006 I liked playing Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast. - Mike - 08-18-2006 Feersty Wrote:I liked playing Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast. - Maengelito - 08-18-2006 Goodspeed Wrote:I still say the most fun I ever had with a videogame was Goldeneye on N64.....best game ever that was a really good one, followed by super smash bros on N64. rockets in stack or power weapons in basement pwn3d - WRXtranceformed - 08-18-2006 Maengelito Wrote:Remote mines FTW! He sucks so bad. - Dave - 08-24-2006 well, this thread went to the trashcan. Quick update on Sony. Their stock took a big dump today b/c there is a debate over them being able to get some parts for the PS3(Blu-ray amongst them) and therefore causing a bottleneck in sales. One of their big buyers cut its estimate in half of the PS3s that they would purchase. "How does this affect us?" This means it will take even longer for Sony to sell enough units to recoop the development put into the PS3, and therefore it will be a longer time before prices will start to drop. - CaptainHenreh - 08-24-2006 Dave Wrote:well, this thread went to the trashcan. Not only that, but they're saying now that they've got a full working production model, but nobody can see it because of a "special feature" they have on it. Nice try, Sony. Next you're going to tell us it magically generates electricity using magnets, and invite 12 scientists to investigate. Re: Why Sony is going to hell - Evan - 08-24-2006 G.Irish Wrote:so you're repeating what I said. A company can be bastard, fuck people over, force standards, create monopolies, sue its end users, etc all if you like their products. Then its a-ok, otherwise you loathe and despise them?Evan Wrote:but you still support Apple, who has always and will always create closed standards, force changes on its userbase, abandon legacy users, controll all content, how you interact with it, and on and on, all exponentially worse than Sony.Well the difference is that Apple has actually executed well on some of its products where Sony has not only been a bastard company, but executed poorly (PS2 being the notable exception) on the products being discussed here. There are plenty of alternative MP3 players that are just as good or better than Ipods that you could support instead if you want to live your ideals. Your arguments against sony dont really hold much water when you only apply them to sony. Quote:Still, the fact that they don't license the Fairplay DRM scheme leaves them vulnerable to someone coming along, executing better, and destroying their business. If someone with enough money and brains does that they could be in big trouble. The trick is that they'd have to have to one-two punch of content sales (music & video) and killer app hardware at the same time.its funny how when MS creates a closed standard, its monopolistic and they are evil. when apple does it they are really just leaving themselves vulnerable. Which is bs btw, Apple has a stranglehold on the market and more monopolistic than MS ever was. They arent leaving themselves vulnerable to anything. I think we are going to see more closed standards from them, because people are tied to their ipods and itunes and will not be willing to give up their investments. - Evan - 08-24-2006 Dave Wrote:well, this thread went to the trashcan....or they are limiting supply to increase demand, increase the customers percieved value of it, that will extend into when there is a full supply, exactly like what happened with the PS2 (and what MS did with the Xbox 360) - Kaan - 08-24-2006 sounds like a buy low and sell high thing to me... better start buying - Dave - 08-24-2006 Evan Wrote:a good point, and not something that I can validate, since I've never followed the development of any of the game systems and just saw this news on the web today and thought it would be pertinent to the thread. You have a good point, but I feel like a buyer cutting its estimates in half is significantly different from a supplier saying they are only going to build a small quantity. The former tells me that the buyer doesn't trust Sony to pony up the goods when the orders come in, or they think they'll get the shaft if something goes wrong, whereas the latter would totally support your statement. I'd agree with Kaan, if he's got brass balls and money to speculate, though I would wait for a bit before I started buying in, let the price drop a little more and make a larger return on investment.Dave Wrote:well, this thread went to the trashcan....or they are limiting supply to increase demand, increase the customers percieved value of it, that will extend into when there is a full supply, exactly like what happened with the PS2 (and what MS did with the Xbox 360) - Evan - 08-24-2006 well of course thats my "black helicopter" opinion on what happened with the PS2 and Xbox360 based on some odd coincidences when they were released, so I certainly dont claim that its absolute fact. Just kind of strange how it worked out. unfortunately I dont have time to play videogames anyway, so I doubt ill be springing for any of the next gen systems, unless its to get a blu-ray player. |
