Sure you can. - .RJ - 06-16-2006 Mike Wrote:yes Yep, you're done. - KPWSerpiente - 06-16-2006 Sorry Evan...I didn't mean to sword fight you! We all know you don't have a big sword, but you know how to use it. You all want a real discussion on some World Cup action? Tomorrow we (the USA) plays Italy. This game is a must win...a tie is not going to get out us of the first round. We all know how bad we got our asses kicked in the first game. Gave up a goal in the 5th minute and were more than lackluster on offense ourselves. Shit like that cannot happen again. We've already got a big advantage over our previous game with the Czechs and that is because of the location of this upcoming game. We'll be playing in Ktown and if the men and women stationed nearby come out in full force like they did in our qualifier against Poland we'll have the crowd on our side...homefield advantage is crucial. We started mostly European based pros in our game against the Czechs which isn't a bad thing but I'd prefer to see McBride take a seat (he is still an exceptional goal scorer but is past his prime, in my opinion) for Johnson. I'd love to see Clint Dempsey worked into this game...He is young and talented and is not afraid to run at the defense. More creative play in the midfield may be a key to taking the game away from the Italians. Reyna, Donovan, Beasley and Dempsey are more than a match for the Italian mid if they get a chance to play their game. Sadly though, we're not likely to win. The USA has never won a World Cup game in Europe and the Italians are not the choke artists I pretend they are (anyone know about them and N Korea?). But...with the stadium on our side (pop quiz..of the teams that have won a World Cup, how many have NOT won a single one as the host country?*) and an injection of younger, I'd say hungrier, players who make their money in MLS we might make it a good game. -T *answer = just Brazil. 5 cup wins...runner up to Uruguay as hosts in 1950. - Feersty - 06-16-2006 I hate y'all and your damn Tivo, you make those that don't have it feel inferior, which is utterly proposterous. - .RJ - 06-16-2006 Feersty Wrote:I hate y'all and your damn Tivo, you make those that don't have it feel inferior, which is utterly proposterous. :?: - WRXtranceformed - 06-16-2006 I love soccer, and played for many many years and for a short stint in Germany (near Kaiserslautern where some of the games are being played). Personally, most of the games I've watched have been far from exciting. I've had more fun watching English Premier League and Bundesliga games than this bullshitcockcrowd of shitty teams from like the Middle East and no name civil war plagued countries in Africa. Even the touted top teams really have been dragging their feet during the games. Mexico, who has a decent team, can't score on Angola a man up? Hell, the fact that it took Germany until the 91st minute and one man up to beat Poland shows a serious lack of quality play... all in my opinion of course. I've played among the elite club teams of Germany, and I can tell you that their precision and power is not being exhibited very well by their premier men's national team. - Andy - 06-16-2006 I just finished watching Argentina pound the snot out of Serbia/Montenegro. Hardly a surprise, but worth watching Argentina's artistry. If you guys can get a tape of it, watch it. It has one of the absolutely greatest goals I've ever ever seen. You'll know it when you see it. - Mike - 06-16-2006 G.Irish Wrote:Mike Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Mike Wrote:i'm single. you can date two people, but you cannot be WITH two people. - WRXtranceformed - 06-17-2006 Andy Wrote:I just finished watching Argentina pound the snot out of Serbia/Montenegro. You'll know it when you see it. Well sure, that's what happens when a dominant team plays a no name. They can showboat and do all the shit that they could never pull off against a team that actually knows how to play the sport they're participating in. Sure, I played a pickup game one time and rainbowed a ball over a defenders head and one timed it into the goal, but I'm not particularly proud of it. If I was an Argentinian player I'd feel the same way. For fucks sake, you're playing a team in which the majority of one of your countries is so caught up violence and petty ancient fuedal bullshit that you can barely field a team of people who are willing to participate in something together. - Feersty - 06-17-2006 We got these today: Iran vs. Portugal Czech Republic vs. Ghana USA vs. Italia They showed a clip of Americans in Germany for the World Cup on Comcast. They were cheering: "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole, USA, USA, Ole, Ole..." - WRXtranceformed - 06-17-2006 US is going to get pwnt hard =( - WRXtranceformed - 06-17-2006 Oops edited so this isn't a spoiler for those who are tivoing! Go USA!!~ - JustinG - 06-18-2006 there is still achance, we need to beat ghana and Italy needs to wine, by the way The 2 redcards on the US were bullshit, but damn Mcbrid(i think thats his name) is a hardcore mofo after that elbow....... - KPWSerpiente - 06-18-2006 I'm sorry for this post...I'm drunk. Fuck your prediction Lee. We owned Italy for over half the game. Denied any chance of taking the ball through the midfield they resorted to long balls in hopes of earning a quick goal via counterattack. Yes they did what all good European teams do, namely converted a place kick when given the chance. What the fuck is up with that ref? Learn to love soccer...it is a fucking contact sport. Not only did he call too many fouls...he actually gave us 2-3 offsides calls that we didn't deserve. Thanks jackass. Dempsey...taken out early...why? Johnson...never played...why? Yeah...McBride is a good player...but we needed the kind of speed that only Johnson could bring to that game once we were down to 9 players and were resorted to playing mostly defense with a few chances on goal ourselves. We needed a win...wait...that was under the assumption that the Czechs would play as strong as they did against us...with a Ghanan win a tie was more than enough. -T - ScottyB - 06-18-2006 i was sweating bullets the last 5 mins. of the game. - WRXtranceformed - 06-18-2006 There were FAR too many cards in that game. Sure, the McBride elbow to the face should have been a red, but a lot of that stuff the ref should have let slide. What the US needed to do was capitalize when Italy went a man down around the 25th minute. That was EXACTLY what my brother and I were saying needed to happen in order for the US to put away Italy from the start. Hopefully Ghana doesn't play as well against us as they did against the Czechs or we'll be in trouble. After that game though, the US gives me a little hope! BTW, complete side note.... I actually built a house for Robert Convey Jr. He bought an investment house in my community and his sister handled all the paperwork since he was overseas playing soccer all the time. She was chill ^_^ - Maengelito - 06-18-2006 3pm, ABC, go south korea, bitches! beat those cheese eatin' surrender monkeys! |
