i might be needing a room in July, i'll keep this in mind when looking for a place. $700 is the limit of what I want to pay so that works out fine.

DonÔÇÖt scare the guy, Feerst.y Honestly, 700 is high compared to Harrisonburg but the jobs up here pay a lot more. Unless Feersty is blowing the rest of his money on altezzas and rimz, heÔÇÖs just exaggerating.
YouÔÇÖll be able to manage 700 a month. If anything, the gas to fill up your SS will be what kills you.

$700 is very do-able here for a good paying out-of-college job. Obviously you can't have a lot of other payments/bills. Usually employers understand the cost of living here and are willing to compensate for this. Usually with the smaller ones it's a little more difficult to get them to pay up, but the bigger one's usually will give it to you.
in all reality, you'll probably be able to 'afford' up to $1k in rent. I have friends that pay up to (or used to anyway) $1150/mo, you just can't have a car payment and live a lavish lifestyle. I'm not sure why you would want $1k in rent, but that's another topic.

Thats because you're just out of school and arent making much $$.
I lived at home for 2 yrs after I got out of school, and it was fine. Let me do a lot of fun stuff without killing myself on rent every month - I make more $$ now, so it works out ok. Its $700 incl utilities - you can live cheaper, its not too hard to find an apt/townhouse room for $400-500 + utils. But at the end of the month, $100-$200 in rent shouldnt kill you. You just have to keep your other bills under control - I've got one car payment ($250), insurance is cheap ($100/mo) and then the usual other stuff (phone, gym, food, etc).
The only think I miss about ATL is the apt I had there
$1150/mo for 2 people, 1200 sq ft apt with huge 2 car garage, everything new, nice place. Oh well.My $.02. And someone move into this damn room

$700 for rent in this area is NOTHING (with a decent job)

I would be able to manage it, but don't want to. I bank about $1,300 a month after rent(parents charge me), loan payment, eat out 5,6 times a month. I paid my insurance til the summer in a lump payment.

How long for the lease will just depend on which place I get a job with, one of them is JUST summer gauranteed, and the other is Perm. If neither of these pan out, i'll probably just live in roanoke for the summer, graduate, then move up there to find full time gainful employment. I dont think 700$ will be anywhere close to a problem once I find my full time job. Searching for internship type work is a pain in the ass though

if you are banking 1300 a month after bills you have no room to complain about paying 700 for rent.
