i really don't think i'm going to get in group 3 and spontaneously combust. i've been holding my own pretty well up until now.

I dont think you will either, but your first weekend out in group 3 is going to be a rough one. It always is in a low-hp car. After 2 or 3 weekends you'll find yourself pushing harder and having a lot more fun with passing anywhere.

so will it hurt me to sit in for the L1 clinic? am i forced to instruct that weekend if i attend it? if so, i obviously don't want to. the nasa site really sucks regarding this :?

- Evan - 07-18-2005

yes, they ask you to instruct that weekend when you do the clinic.

I would recommend not "sitting in" to a clinic. Take the clinic when you are 100% ready to instruct. There are a few of them each year.

word, thanks for a response other than "you gonna be owned and die in group 3 you stupid noob!"

Instructing was voluntary after last summer's clinic.

what's not to get? i was asking questions and all i was getting were somewhat unrelated answers. evan gave me a straight up answer without all the subjective bs. for that, i appreciate his response.

i talked to unk on sunday and asked him more about the clinic. he said they might ask you to instruct during the weekend, but it sounded like they wouldnt unless they really really needed you to.

You must have at least 30 track days prior to enrolling in the Level 1 clinic. If you have less than that, your experience must be examined by Chris and/or Dan Unkefer. We do allow some that do the clinic to instruct that weekend but it is based on their previous experience (e.g., have they instructed with other clubs before and are just now taking our clinic, do they have tons of experience, etc.).
I check all the experience levels of the people that enroll about 10 days prior to the event.

Does this involve a full body cavity search, if so, Mike's definitelly gonna sign up. I can hear the snap of the rubber glove now.

Is that 30 DAYS or 30 weekends? Is that with any club or NASA only? How do you verify track days with other clubs?

Just wondering. I've got 30 DAYS, not 30 weekends though Smile.

for the record, I loved my first weekend in group 3. It sucked having the slowest car in the group and getting rolled by everything and even lapped by a couple corvettes, but I love adjusting my line and the challenges posed by having the ability to pass/get passed anywhere. Definitely a big reward for the hard work at becoming a better driver.
