Who here has clingon action figures? - CaptainHenreh - 02-27-2006 WTF, Feersty. Zombie threads...someone get a shovel. - Maengelito - 02-27-2006 your GS level does depend on your GPA. i started at GG (which stands for something different, but is exactly the same from everything i've seen) 5 and am now a GG-11. i'll be a 12 in august, and hopefully a 13 1.5 years after that. for my job title, i go from grade 5-7-9-11-12 then 13's are technically not awarded automatically, but everyone i've talked to that has one says it just takes a few more months. there are lots of programs from the govt that pay for you to go back to school, but it depends on your training officer. if you have one as worthless as mine, it'll take you several years for you to do what you want if you get to at all but thats a whole nother essay i could write about that. but govt security is pretty nice, good benefits, i work an extra hour every day so i get every other friday off (which seems to usually coincide with track weekends) and anything short of treason or crude overt sexual harrassment will not get you fired. in fact, gross incompetence seems to be a prerequisite for some positions at my work. the subject of pay banding seems to come up a lot which keeps getting delayed but i hope it doesnt come until i get my 13 which will put me in the top tier of pay banding. aside from that, i dont know much about it - Evan - 02-27-2006 Feerst it is bad form to ask someone if they have a clearance. - ViPER1313 - 02-28-2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faux_pas - John - 02-28-2006 G.Irish Wrote:My friend from high school (some of you know him, Horace, the guy with the Afro) who is my age is a GS13 already... There are some odd-promotees out there who are at the right place at the right time. A good friend of mine from HS is a Naval civilian and his pay band is equivalent between a GS14/15. Not to mention he gets a daily allowance for his extended TDY down here since he's officially out of RI. - Sijray21 - 03-01-2006 Feersty Wrote:Does the government pay for graduate school and then give you a higher pay when you complete it? i've had this conversation with my former employer at DoS. He essentially had his graduate school paid for, but he had to dedicate x number of years per year of school. I'm not sure if that is based on years or money spent, but there is somewhat of a contract you must agree to that involves more time working for the federal government. Generally when you graduate you move positions to one that will take advantage of the advanced degree (usually this is more pay). BTW - Good Job Maeng!! Moving up quick in the General Grade is a true accomplishment, especially starting at 5.

- HAULN-SS - 03-01-2006 Movin to Nova is the best way to jump your grade up. I have a friend that went from 12 to 15 in like 4 years. It's very hard to even get past 12 if you're not near DC somewhere. He had worked as a state director in USDA in richmond and was stuck at 12 for like 4 years.job came up in DC and now he commutes 2 hours, but I guess the pay jump made up or it - Sijray21 - 03-01-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:I have a friend that went from 12 to 15 in like 4 years. whoa!! That's quick! It takes alot more than just moving up to Nova to move up to a 15 in that amount of time. Most parents out there aren't even at the 15 level. |
