RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Apoc - 03-21-2019 I think the question we all really want answered is are you going to offset the front plate? RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - SlimKlim - 03-21-2019 With Velcro RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Jake - 03-25-2019 +1, dye those seats! RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Senor_Taylor - 03-27-2019 Did some more work on it last night (and also posted it for sale to see if there's any quick bites). Peeled the door cards off and lubed up all of the window rais to get them working, which dramatically improves my perceived value of the car. The windows simply did not work when I bought it and now they glide up and down effortlessly. Replace another speaker so now it sounds pretty good. Pulled the rear seats and carpet to find even more dynamat. I've probably pulled 10-15 pounds of the stuff out of the car so far. It's also had a small drip of gas when over half full since I bought it, so it was either a fuel pump seal, the filler neck hose, or a hole in the gas tank. Can anyone guess which it was? Yup, you guessed it. Pulled the filler neck off last night to inspect the common areas, and while scraping the undersealant with a screwdriver, I found the hole and made it much worse. It was a pretty tense moment when I unleashed 6 gallons of gas on me, my tools, my light, and my entire garage. The house smells terrible now too. I've got some fiberglass and epoxy in the mail to repair it, and if I can get that to work, I've got another tank to throw in this weekend. I'll be honest and say I didn't know about the fuel leak when I bought it since it had 1/4 of a tank, but as far as E30 problems go, this isn't too bad. I hope to get the tank fixed thursday, and hopefully pull the gauge cluster next to resolder the break in the board and get my temp gauge working. If all goes well, I'm spending Saturday at Tian's to do timing belts on both our E30s and she'll be good to roll on for the summer for me, or whomever buys it. RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Deceus - 03-27-2019 Oh man I know that feel. I disconnected one of my fuel lines underneath the car ... at the lowest point in the system ... with it still connected to the tank. My fittings come out of the top of my fuel cell so I figured they had drained back into tank or something. I plugged it pretty quick with my thumb after I got a nice little gasoline shower but realized how fucked I was because I couldn't really let go of the hose. I was able to reach a bucket though and just aimed at that while I jumped out and frantically searched for the right wrench to disconnect the 19 gallons of gravity fed gasoline. Easily a top 10 I'm gonna die moment. Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Senor_Taylor - 03-28-2019 Ordered the JB weld gas tank repair kit. Sanded down the area around the hole, mixed the epoxy, laid down a layer and partially filled the hole, then placed a fiberglass cloth down, followed by more epoxy. Added more gas and took it for a spin. No leaks so far! No leaks so far! dude...nice recovery. i was hoping this was the point in the story where your flipper vert gets an ATL fuel cell with A/N fittings and descends the rabbit hole but this is a slightly better idea. It really needs time to cure (full 24 hours) in warmer weather to be most effective. Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Senor_Taylor - 03-29-2019 Yes I let it cure. The leak is in a spot where not much fuel is touching it right now either. If I keep the car over the summer, I'll throw a new tank in since it's not too hard. ![]() ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk RE: Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - V1GiLaNtE - 03-29-2019 God help whoever has to replace those bushings in the future... You must be new here. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk Don't meet your heroes - E30 Vert - Senor_Taylor - 03-30-2019 Timing belt and water pump done. Also did the same for Tian's E30 so I was too tired to take the gauge cluster out today to solder any wires and fix the gauges. I can't believe it, but the MFC works. You just can't see it since it's not backlit due to the aforementioned gauge cluster issue. Discovered some gnarly rust on the battery tray that has made a hole into the cabin. BMW wasn't thinking right when they moved the battery to the front on the vert models. Should be an easy fix with an angle grinder and some sheet metal. Just never happy to see it. Also need to alot some time for a valve adjustment. ![]() Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
