Yeah, I'm not spending $15k on BaT for something that was fun and $5k a few years ago.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I was just about to write about the irony of low-rate loans and buying a $30k GTI OTD being fiscally responsible, but I also blow money on a completely selfish and $0 Return hobby.  Imma go back to searching car forums for stupid ideas.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

RE: Automotive Landscape Best Point is now? - WRXtranceformed - 02-28-2018

Anecdote: I destroyed a turbocharged Prelude (aftermarket obviously) in my old TXS stage 4 WRX. He seemed surprised, I was not. Those things are mad slow even after mods

anyone else remember when BaT wasnt just an auction site?

I dont even bother to go there anymore

good for the owners though, they must be rolling in it

Seriously. I was on there today and they have a listing for a fucking Isuzu Trooper. Really? Another listing for a Boss Mustang. Can't I just go to any used car lot and find one of those? They have some good stuff on there but a lot of it is complete crap.

I sort of regret not selling my A4 Avant on there, but it went to a good home.

I wondered if I'd have better shot of moving my 135, too, but I dont think its really unique or low-mileage time capsule enough.

I bet this sells for $15k.  Sorry, $15k gets me into a civic si and a new mountain bike.  Or a nice B8 A4 S-Line.

I just wish there was the modern equivalent of cheap, hatchback utility, fun to drive and easy to own.  I dont actually want a 17 year old Integra or a 20 year old prelude.

come take a hit on the RS crackpipe.

but yeah, I miss my b5s4 something fierce also.

I told the wife we will own an RS at some point in our lives. The problem is I'm too much of a snob to drive one that's more than a few years old and I'm not crazy enough to spend $60k on a car I can't really use. I mean, shit, the selling price for the GTI and 911 combined was $38k. Maybe when I retire I'll drop that kind of coin.

Didn't you just describe a GTI?

I suppose a used one, sure.

I do! The integra at least. I just wish there were more “middle of the road” examples around. It’s either the 20k mile GS-R for $15k or totally ragged/trashed out/riced out GS-Rs with parts from 20 different integras. I look all the time locally and I’d love to find a decent condition, not modified, high mileage ok GS-R to beat like it owed me money too and from work for a couple months. I really liked the one I had in high school.

2.5L Mazda 3s are all over the place

Youre just too much of a Honda fanboy

Audi A3? Everything that is GTI but more goodies, and the same crippling depreciation.

RE: Automotive Landscape Best Point is now? - balactm - 03-05-2018

It's almost bewildering, because I remember having this sort of conversation between hold backs and glowstick parties thinking, "when the hell will [insert manufacturer] finally listen to what all of us car-enthusiasts have been saying, and just build a better one from the get go, so we don't have to?!"

Now, there are so many choices, as Taylor points out, that it's just a matter of, pick your poison. I guess ultimately it depends on how much coin you're willing to spend on a car.

RE: Automotive Landscape Best Point is now? - .RJ - 03-05-2018

Yeah, I was looking at a new mazda 3 hatch. They're cheap. The problem is that the GTI exists for a few (ok, 5k) dollars more.

A3... hmm.
