Also I'm not saying don't mod. I'm saying don't make it uncomfy. I'd to tires, brakes, wheels and leave the suspenion stock so I don't have to slow down for manhole covers. Seats are pita to get in and out of. I'd leave em stock.

Jesus fuck i sound old and miserable complaining about slowing down for bumps on the road.

Just make this.

Don't do seats or belts.

So you want a Miata with BBS wheels? Well do I have a deal for you....

D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:You have a truck (a nice plush one too), go ahead.

Plush? Yeah, I have to disagree. The truck rides a lot rougher in comparison to the Miata. I just drove the truck today after being in the Miata for last few days. Truck is close to as stiff as the Mazda3 ride quality wise with slightly softer rebound but compression is nearly just as bad.

I'm going to say I could easily drive the Miata on some suspension changes(stock sways) on the street and be fine with it. Just turn down dampening or compression/rebound if adjustable. Right now the Miata has a very balanced and plush rebound and compression. The compression is very quick while the rebound is soft. Really like how it feels for a DD. But, it's not the best to feel what the car is doing in the rear.

I resisted for as long as I could. A whole 2 and a half weeks...

Some gift cards for Christmas and 10% instant statement credit so I decided it was worth it to go for it for half off...

Can't wait to see how rusted the bits are. Good thing GWR provides new hardware Tongue .

Also, I never explained why I chose this car. To do a quick summation. Z was knocked off the list after no vert in the track edition and no GTs were in the price range. MR2 was knocked off due to the fact that the many problems they had and I didn't want to deal with a possible ticking time bomb of issues. Z4 was knocked off due to not wanting to deal with the maintenance cost... Even though it had the nicest interior and features.

Muffler will be here Wednesday and the weather is looking perfect out for that day (60s) so I shall be installing the muffler along with changing out the transmission fluid with the XT-M5-QS stuff everyone loves since 2nd and 3rd gear are just plain terrible in the cold. Let me know if anyone wants to come and hang out and laugh at me struggle with the exhaust hangers.

As usual things take longer than expected especially when dealing with rusted to shit bolts and rusted to shit threads that make you feel like you are torquing something to 100 ft/lbs but you are actually loosening it... Also, wrestling with exhaust hangers is always fun...

To sum it up the gear box is noticeably butter smooth with the XT-M5-QS goodness. The exhaust sounds more or less stock in my opinion.

I think I went too safe especially if I'm going catted header and helmholtz mid or it may be perfect, I don't know. We shall see and hopefully it turns out the way I want it to or I'll be going to the race single. I thought the muffler would be actually a bit more noticeable after reading reviews and questions. When it just seems like NC owners are very picky about loudness in the exhaust. The loudness so far is very very close to stock. The tone is also basically stock with a tiny more growl to it. Don't think most people would know I had a different muffler from the inside of the car. The only real big difference I noticed was a grumble from about 1800-1000RPM on deceleration. That's about the biggest difference for me so far.

The transmission fluid was a breeze except for the mess of the pump aftermath. Definitely aren't many choice when it comes to pumps but basically it held a lot of extra fluid and the hoses as well so that clean up was fun to say the least. It was probably also the first time the transmission fluid has been changed in 93k miles...

Really interesting to actually go under the car and see the underbody of the car for once as well as suspension components. Oil changes will require removal of the plastic splash/aero tray.

What pump are you using that made a mess? If its the "advance auto ones/generic/walmart" ones they are absolute trash and make more of a mess than they are worth.

One word: Motive Power Fill. Worth every dollar and I could change diff/trans fluid in a suit with it.

Oh man, I need to buy one of those. Right now I actively avoid fluid changes until they're absolutely necessary because I hate dealing with it. Last time I did diff fluid on the E36, I had to shampoo my hair three times to get all the gear oil out.

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - Goodspeed - 01-05-2017

Nice! Give yourself a few more years and you'll be glad you got a quiet exhaust on a 4cyl

Yeah using one of those two hose ones. It is this one. It pumped no problem and had no leaks or anything. It just liked to hold a lot of left over liquid. Once you remove the hoses and such all hell breaks lose and you have a small puddle of transmission fluid on the floor lol.

I have this one coming in from Amazon. Not sure how well it will do but it looks a lot better. But I can return it easily if I don't use it.

Edit: The Motive Power Fill looks like what people use to bleed brakes without another person there.

Meh, I'm used to the Mazda3 which was close to unbearable but I did it.

Edit: Also, the exhaust isn't as quiet as I originally thought but I was tired and over it last night so may be why I didn't notice it much. It's noticeable but very much not louder than stock. Just a tad bit quieter than I expected. Has a good growl to it it lower RPMs but you lose the sound of it above 3-4k RPMs. I wonder if that will change with the top down.

Yeah that one you show from Advance is a "do it once and throw it away". Such a mess. (I learned the hard way 3 times with that style)

The oil suction gun is "alright". Not worth the money.

Motive "Power Fill" vs Motive Power Bleeder Wink I have both.
With the motive, you fill the container with the fluid you are pumping. Close the cap, pump up to 15psi. Put "metal hook thingie" in diff/trans. Swing lever. Grab a beer and let it do its work. Once fluid starts running out of diff/trans (into an oil drain pan sitting below), swing lever to closed. Pop fill plug back in, pump rest of fluid back into container and cap back on "metal hook thingie". Seriously, worth it. I can do a trans/diff fluid change in less time than an oil change (and do the oil change while I am doing it!)

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - rherold9 - 01-05-2017

Hmm, alright I'll have to keep this in mind and add it to my list of things I need to buy. Looks like it is easy button. That will be nice

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - ScottyB - 01-05-2017

amazing how much room that new exhaust gives you, and hopefully less weight. looks sharp.

not much to add other than i also have a Motive bleeder and its wonderful. no mess, works every time, easy.

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - WRXtranceformed - 01-05-2017

Nice! Looks great. The exhaust may also "burn in" and give you a different tone after a few hundred miles. Quiet at this stage is probably good, especially if you plan to do more exhaust work. If it's super loud with just an axleback and then you start doing headers / midpipe you stray into brain-numbing territory.

ScottyB Wrote:amazing how much room that new exhaust gives you, and hopefully less weight. looks sharp.

Yup, less weight by like 15 pounds, a lot more room, single because it looks much better than a dual on a 4 cylinder car... but you know some people always have to give people are hard time after explaining this. Make fun of the fact that I mod a car to make it better or more to my liking. Just buy a different car instead of making it like something else you could've or should've gotten... :bootyshake:

I'm sure it will break in but usually it doesn't change much on volume more on tone like you are saying. Noticed that especially on the Mazda3. Quiet is good but it's a bit too quiet for a sports card right now where I love hearing the car, imo. Obviously a line to be drawn between overdone for a DD. I learned that quickly on the Mazda3 haha. The catted header shouldn't make too much more sound and the helmholtz mid with the high flow cat should kill any drone/boominess. I'm hoping the setup keeps it relatively quiet cruising like it is now but a little increased volume is all I'm asking cruising. The helmholtz should also deliver the smiles of a full exhaust on wide open throttle I hear so I'm definitely looking forward to how it will end up.

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - *insertusernamehere* - 01-05-2017

Lol because the number of cylinders under the hood affect how good the aesthetics are. So whats prerequisite amount of cylinders for dual tips? [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

My problem is you now have a cutout in your bumper with no tailpipe in it. I mean if asymmetry is your thing then I guess thats fine

I was gonna leave you alone on this, but you brought it up and I'm bored at work [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Damn all these automakers must be losing their minds putting dual tips on measly 4 cylinders

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - SlimKlim - 01-05-2017

Why stop at 2? The Golf R has one poop chute per cylinder from the factory.

Re: Really? Another Miata thread.... - rherold9 - 01-05-2017

Like you said it's aesthetics and my opinion on aesthetics will differ from someone else's. There is no prerequisite for me just my opinion per car and what I think looks good or not. Just like you have an opinion on it doesn't matter or whatever yours is :dunno: . Who cares about the cutout unless you just sit there staring at the rear end all day and even with just the single and it still looks great  .

That's my opinion and yours is

if you don't agree.

Not sure why people get so bent out of shape when I call them out when they originally called me out :dunno:
