I love that you went white, but...how's the whole car look?

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - WRXtranceformed - 02-22-2016

Also love that white and want to see a pic of the whole thing!

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - JPolen01 - 02-22-2016

Yaaaaas back to all white. Now I can pick you out on track again.

What's the fiasco about?

No full pictures yet since the car is really still in pieces and in the garage.

Fiasco was me trying to let someone else work on my shit. My current 36' gooseneck trailer cannot even make it in my neighborhood (I always park and drive my race car over to the main street). Therefore I cannot work on it. I tried a new trailer place and they promised to have it done by 3PM. I said, I have to pick up my car from the bodyshop. Of course they were late, overcharged and nearly cost me picking up my car and plenty of angry words. Bodyshop was great.

Paint is AWESOME for the price I paid, but definitely not a show quality job. I expected this and was actually pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. Nice to have an Alpine White bmw again!

Did I say back to fun? What did I mean by that? Wink

Got what I could done before Wednesday. Loaded up and headed down to Richmond to have Kevin operate the dyno and Randy from Epic tune it.

Warming her up:

We do a couple baseline pulls and immediately notice the 15:1 AFRs. This is extremely lean so we thought we had a bad O2 sensor. Tested another one...shit. It's the car. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and do another pull.... This happens.

There are 3 possible scenarios
1. Kink or restriction in the line, doubtful as everything is routed pretty well on this car, did a quick look through and didn't see anything
2. Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator
3. Bad Fuel Pump

Unfortunately Randy from Epic only had time till 12PM and we found out this issue at 11 oclock in our first pull. So I packed up and spent 2 hours towing home by myself thinking "woe as me".

This is the only time I could get with Randy before RA so I am pulling out of going down to Road Atlanta. It's a fairly simple fix, so I will be ready for April. (and adding a fuel pressure gauge to my AIM)

sorry to hear of the troubles! at least its an easy fix.

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - Jake - 02-25-2016

Sad At least it's an easy enough fix...

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - rherold9 - 02-25-2016

Other good news is you figured out the low on power issue and didn't blow the engine...

Ay better late than never! At least now you can get it fixed, hooray!

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-25-2016

Update: Randy is making time on March 8th. Lots to get done by then.

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-01-2016

Quick update from last night:

Got some work done on the truck as it started making some humming noise. Sounded like a front wheel bearing, so ordered one up and installed. While the car was in the air did a quick drain and fill for the allison transmission.

Then got to work on the car after a friend came over. Splitting time between my own car and finishing up a rod bearing job on Jim Khoury's E46.

New splitter standoff came in, so we mounted that along with the brake ducts onto the front bumper. Wired up Channel 1 for the Fuel Pressure Sender, connected up the SmartyCam, and ran the extension cable for the Differential Temp Sensor.

Also received the chassis wing supports finally. Did a quick mock-up to see how it looks, now to mounting it up tonight.

Tonight's Plan:
Mount front bumper
Finish up Fuel Pressure Sender install by tapping into fuel line and making mount
Mount Chassis Wing
Cut Trunk for Chassis Wing uprights, figure out plan to mount trunk
Get car up on lift and do Fuel Pressure Regulator/Fuel Filter/Fuel Pump
Cut up new Dash Panel and install

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-02-2016

Unfortunately did not get as much done as I was hoping. Jim came by to pick up his car and ended up shooting the shit a bit.

Finished:
Mounting front bumper
Cut up new dash panel
Install AIM/sensors/switches and switch panels

I think I am still on track to possibly making Road Atlanta. Lots to still do

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - Jake - 03-02-2016

Getting there! You've still got a bunch of days - somewhere I have a photo of you/me/D'amico putting the head back on your E36 M3 two nights before a race weekend. This sounds slightly less frantic.

go DJ go!

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - JPolen01 - 03-02-2016

The interior looks really nice from that view. Glad to see it's not just the typical hacked up dash and rats nest of wiring like most cars.

That is what I am trying to fix. Unfortunately that is how the previous owner had it. Gray ugly dash with holes everywhere and wiring everywhere.

This iterration fixed the dash colors, holes and 60% of the wiring. Still lots to do before its where I want it.

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - Kaan - 03-03-2016

there are a million ways to mount the trunk... i'm going to be using these on my bumpers

Funny you mention that since I already ordered that exact product. The bigger issue is figuring out how to mount it in terms of being able to get to it easily. The chassis mount wing goes through the trunk. Hard to explain the dilemma I am facing.

Re: GTS3 E46 - Back to fun - Kaan - 03-03-2016

chassis mounted wing = extremely limted trunk access. Smile you have your work "cut out" for you
