Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 08-17-2015 Took the calipers apart and greased the pins up and one of them is still sticking so I'm just going to get a new caliper for that side at least. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 01-07-2016 This thing is the biggest piece of shit I've owned so far... which is saying a lot considering the cars I've owned. When I first got the car I was getting 23 mpg (by the dash) with interstate cruising around 75-80mph. Now I can't even get over 15 on the highway and I'm averaging 11ish around town. Tonight when I was driving back, I stomped it going 60 and it felt like it could barely make it to 70 on level ground. Things I've replaced in the short time I've owned it (~6 months):
At this point I'm thinking maybe replace the other cat and if that doesn't help, it's gone. Any other ideas? I hear Jake is looking for another truck  Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - Jake - 01-07-2016 I'll sell you a 2005 Yukon Denali as its replacement
Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - Kaan - 01-07-2016 i heard gas and some matches help out Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - JPolen01 - 01-07-2016 Dumping some pepper in the valve covers is supposed to work wonders Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - Senor_Taylor - 01-07-2016 RawrImAMonster Wrote:Any other ideas? Buy a 4Runner. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 01-07-2016 I like this truck a lot if I can just figure out what is causing it to run like shit. It was great when I first got it. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - rherold9 - 01-07-2016 RIP to the motor Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 01-07-2016 Possible, but it's more likely to be clogged exhaust somewhere in the system. There is a weird noise that sounds almost like an exhaust leak coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. I had an exhaust shop check it, but they said it wasn't a leak. It gets worse under heavier throttle like an exhaust leak would. Doesn't sound like rod knock or anything like that. The motor runs smoothly so I don't think it's missing. Might have to do a compression test. Also I need to find someone with one of those laser thermometer things and check to see if any part of the exhaust is getting way hotter than the rest. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 01-26-2016 Finally got a code that explains why this thing is running like shit. P1111 - Intake Timing Control Solenoid It's part of the variable valve timing system for the intake side. It definitely explains the low power, but we'll see if it explains all of my gas mileage problems. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 02-05-2016 And we're back... with more problems. At this point, I think I'm fixing it and selling it as soon as I get everything working. This truck has been nothing but problems in the 7 months or so I've owned it. I don't think it has worked 100% for more than a few weeks at a time. Unfortunate since I really like it otherwise, but this was supposed to be my reliable daily driver. So before I got a chance to replace the timing control solenoid today, something else went wrong. It started misfiring really bad on multiple cylinders and doesn't even have enough power to make it up to 45mph on a flat road. I went ahead and replaced the timing control solenoid since that was easy, so that's fixed I guess. Now I'm not really sure where to go from here. The only code I'm getting is the useless P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire. It seems like that is the only code this thing knows how to throw no matter what's wrong. Possible culprits: Crank sensor, cam sensor(s), ecu itself, multiple coils failing at the same time, fuel pump/filter. Spark plugs are a couple thousand miles old so probably not those. Any ideas? Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - V1GiLaNtE - 02-05-2016 Are there guides on testing the crank/cam sensor utilizing a multi-meter? Usually you can tell if it's failing or failed if the voltage is running all wacky. Otherwise it just sounds like bad coils to me.. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 02-05-2016 It's possible that multiple coils failed at the same time, just unusual. It wasn't misfiring at all before yesterday. These are super cheap and seem to have good reviews so I might just replace all 6. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Infiniti-Pathfinder-UF349-C1406/dp/B00FUT7IP6">http://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Infiniti ... B00FUT7IP6</a><!-- m --> One of my friends may have the adapter I need to check fuel pressure, so hopefully I can rule that out this weekend. Really wishing I would have just bought your wrx wagon at this point. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - SlimKlim - 02-05-2016 How consistent is the misfire? Do you still have all your vanity covers and stuff on the engine? Back in school I was running around with no hood insulation and no vanity cover on the M3 and sure enough water got down under the coils of the 2 rear cylinders and fried both of them at the same time. It would run ok when it was cold but once it warmed up it was a complete disaster. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 02-05-2016 So consistent that it literally couldn't make it to 45 mph on a completely flat road. If it is under any load at all the check engine light is constantly blinking. All covers still in place. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - SlimKlim - 02-05-2016 Huh, well it's gotta be electrical right? If it was the fuel pump you'd probably be getting a lean code too right? I'd go with what Cabell said and see if you can find a testing procedure for the cam and crank sensor, then go from there. Re: 2005 Nissan Xterra - RawrImAMonster - 02-05-2016 The crank sensor is enough of a pain to get to and cheap enough at $35 that I would just replace it. The cam sensors can't be tested without Nissan's consult-ii.
