Chassis has been acquired

It's a 2008 Tony Kart EVX, picked it up from a guy in Vienna who raced Spec Miata/ITA as well. Turns out he went to JMU a bit before my time and he instructed with NASA.

Anyway, next step is clean 'er up, buy and install an engine, and maybe get an extra set of wheels and tires. We'll probably do a practice day to get things rolling. I am excite

Turbo hyabusa engine?

Great work making moves on that thing!

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - Sully - 05-18-2014

So if I wanted to rent it for this weekend, will you drive me around in the back of the truck blasting f1 car sounds on the stereo (old f1 car sounds obviously)

Sure but my truck is too slow to give you the proper effect. Would need something like a Ford Lightning with pulleys or something.

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - Kaan - 05-19-2014

looks like a good pick up ... have fun cleaning, checking hardware, and safety wiring!

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 05-19-2014

Safety wiring is already done, just gotta degrease around the engine mount, get some mounting clips for the front bumper, and get some wheel nuts and maybe an extra set of wheels. Also probably gonna go after a laser alignment tool, kart lift, vertical kart stand (for storage), and maybe a tire mounting kit. Kevin is a bit bigger than me so we'll probably have to get him a seat. Both of us will need rib protectors.

I've got a wedding in Ecuador in the first week of June so I probably won't have the engine in by then but shortly thereafter is the target.

oh snap! looks awesome, can't wait to see this thing in action

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 06-17-2014

Engine has been secured, installation to follow.

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 07-21-2014

So we spent the weekend cleaning her up and put the engine mount and got it lined up. Now we just need to get a chain, carb needles, and a few other odds and ends and we'll be ready to roll. Unfortunately I'll be busy this weekend so kick off date will be maybe 2 weeks from now.

Wow haha awesome...it's not until seeing a picture of you sitting on that thing that it looks so low naked and scary. What's the top speed on that thing again?

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 07-21-2014

Not sure how fast it'll go on the sprint tracks we're aiming to run at but I think it can push 75-80. The 6 hp karts do about 40 mph so with 28 hp we should be going at least 50-60 on the straights.

This is so awesome, the $/fun ratio is going to be off the charts I'm sure. Where are you guys planning to race again? Also what kind of motor (2, 4 stroke)?. I'm really going to have to take a closer look at doing this maybe next year. Also really need to do some SPK, maybe this fall. Want!

Re: Serious Business Karting (Rotax, Shifters, etc) - G.Irish - 07-22-2014

I think we'll do the bulk of our racing at NJMP, Sandy Hook (MD), and Nicholson Speedway (MD) with VIR thrown in for practice days maybe. We'll have to see how nice Sandy Hook and Nicholson are. If they're crappy we'll just stick with NJMP for the most part. I do wanna make it down to the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, NC once this year though.
