Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-26-2014

Well, we finally got everything hooked up finally, the header in place, all piping put on. I had to cut the weld where we welded on the muffler as the header wouldnt fit because there was no play in the exhaust. So I'll have to go to an actual exhaust shop and get an actual hanger or the rear installed. So the muffler is just dangling until I drive it to an exhaust shop. Coat hangers ftw. But, everything is installed somewhat just waiting on the 02 so I can drive.

But, when we tried using the MM torque wrench it never clicked and kept spinning we thought it was weird but kept going... so you guessed it the first bolt we tried to use it to torque to spec on the manifold snapped 3/4 or more down it. The torque wrench is broken.... Just my luck. Surprise. Hahahaha. Gave up after that. Going to take a look tonight and put all the odds and final ends back on. Then hope there are enough threads to get the nut tight on to the manifold so I don't have an expensive repair bill...

If I can't get it tight. Once the 02 comes in I'll start it up and check for exhaust leak around that area and the rest of the exhaust. If it is leaking, I'm going to try this Copper RTV Permatex gasket maker around the outside of the header near the bad bolt. If that doesnt solve it I guess going to drive it to Monkey Wrench and let them have at it and foot the bill I guess Sad

Sigh... I don't even get mad anymore that's pretty sad.

Bill's muffler is a great exhaust place. Been there twice with my WRX. Ps are these my tools that are breaking? Sad

Nope, was Sam's adapter. But, your torque wrench has been broken before I touched it.

I will have to see if I can get an inverted torx and get the old stud out and get a new one from somewhere. Probably just take it to the shop because something else will break if I'm anywhere near it. Just depends on what happens once I get the 02 sensor in the mail. May just get lucky for once and everything works...

Lol just think - it's the car not you. You just need to have the patience to deal with the car haha. I broke like five plastic clips the last time I started fiddling with the BMW and almost shattered my coolant temp sensor lol

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-26-2014

I'm patient just have no experience with that type of thing and I just don't want to risk breaking more and dumping more money into it. I will decide later. No clue what I'm going to do. Just thinking out loud

Welcome to the club. All you can do is crack open a beer and remind yourself that tomorrow's another day.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 03-26-2014

Torx? Do you need a female socket? I have the male bits if you need those. I also have craftsman adapters next time you need them.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-26-2014

No idea Taylor just leaving it like it is for now. Header is bolted up as much as I can get it to the manifold and midpipe. Just going to wait for the 02 then finalize everything next week when it gets here

What tools do I need to bring to the car show

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-27-2014

Well suddenly the wild 02 sensor appeared and has gone through sorting and out for delivery. It went from nothing for 2 days to being going through sorting completely. It traveled through the night from Sandston. Crazy. Something I didn't expect that's for sure.

Welp, hopefully I can get everything settled tonight, it will probably be a long one trying to fix exhaust leaks with my luck the whole damn thing will leak  . I'm such an optimist Big Grin .

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-27-2014

Got everything in. Running no muffler right now as I said screw it I want to drive it once we found there was no leaks. Sounds almost like a race car. But, needs a bit more loud. Oh man, butt dyno doesn't really feel any power gains and so far no CEL after beating the piss out of it for 30 miles haha. But, boy is this thing a lot louder. People will be so surprised that it is my car. Just have to fix the flex pipe smacking the sub frame like it does now.... And eventually get the muffler back on.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 03-28-2014

Glad it worked out for ya! Any concern about exhaust tickets for being muffler-less?

You were too young to experience my GSX running without a cat-back exhaust for 8 months. Never got a ticket. Put muffler back on, ticket within a month and a half  Turbo cars are a lot less obnoxious about exhaust noise then N/A though.

PS- Avoid the fart cans if you can, this was the quietest aftermarket cat-back, but looked huge so I got a lot of tickets

I'm Florida plates/registration so I don't think they can do anything. It will only be until tomorrow so I think I should be okay. Neutral is basically silent so I'm going to throw it into that if I see a cop

You think incorrectly, sir.

I never got a single ticket in Hburg despite all the automotive debauchery I took part in. Since moving to NOVA I've gotten one muffler ticket and 2 speeding tickets. Sad

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 03-28-2014

Yeah, I wouldn't worry around the burg. Definitely don't keep it that way. Not sure if everyone will think it's that cool.

I guess they can still get me for breaking the decibel limit for around the car that the city sets allowable but nothing directly related to my mods and such. Florida doesn't have emissions or inspection so they don't give two shits about what you do to your car.

I'll be putting the muffler on this weekend so no big deal. I have only been to 3k in first gear at the highest today while around town driving.

That is completely incorrect. If you're driving on virginia roads, they can get you for any modifications.

A lot of people make that mistake with tint that is legal in other states.

Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 03-28-2014

Good I guess they can ticket me then.
