I haven't. I'm sure it's fast. But I feel like the whole time I'm driving it that I could have spent the same money on something faster and trackable or something that's capable off road.

Ummm...why's something gotta be trackable? Just because it's 4wd, it's gotta be off road capable?

What's wrong with just a big comfy rocketship? Seriously, they're fast as hell, roomy, and comfortable. If that's what you're looking for, it's great.

It was called the Magnum SRT8 and it was far more badass than a Grand Cherokee lowered with no tow hook and donked-out rimz.

Meh. 4/10, needs more profanity.

The problem I have for the time being is that technically the outside parking spaces are for visitors only, not residents. So if I get a cargo van and a sports car and the wife still has a car, chances are I'm not gonna have room to park. There are a couple more permutations of vehicles that will work (too much to type here), but basically the wife wants a SUV at some point, and I'm like, "Well, if we're gonna have a SUV..."

Still, all of the super SUVs are too expensive. You can get a used Cayenne Turbo for like $25-$35k but I imagine that those cars have 5-figure repairs lying in wait.

you do realize that the purpose of SUVs are not, and never were, to solely go offroading.
and if you see a camry and an suv as equivalent vehicles, youre missing the point altogether

I have pondered this exact conundrum many times. It could be a good tow vehicle but they nipped that in the bud with those stupid center exhaust tips. Without a tow hook it has no functionality or purpose.
You can still tow with it, you just end up with a stupid looking hitch:

Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - Tyler.M - 02-21-2013

So is a CTS-V Wagon but at least they're good at being sporty tourers and you can pack half a mormon family in the back. The SRT8 and it's less capable brethren favor sport over utility. Sure, they're big. Sure, they're comfy. But dear lord, don't ever take them off road and the SRT8 is clearly not meant to tow. So what do you have left? A sporty fat-ass of a car that may be an SUV in form but not function. People used to get SUVs because they were practical, but if you get one because it's sporty/comfy there are much better sporty/comfy options that are not sport SUVs. So, if you buy a sporty SUV, what you're really doing is robbing yourself of a much better experience in a car that is meant to be sporty from the get go. Every time I see an SRT8 or even a Cayenne Turbo I always laugh because it's obvious they couldn't choose between sportiness or utility so they got something that couldn't do either as well as price-point equivalent cars or SUVs.

^ I'll pass G. cause when you make a tight turn and end up hitting something with the tongue of the trailer you'll probably be pissed..

OH LAWD would I pimp a CTS-V Wagon. Matter O' Factly wish they had made some sort of G8 or 2014 SS wagon..

The purpose is a do everything car vehicle, right? If you inject some sport and you lose that utility, suddenly you have a vehicle that no longer acts like an SUV because it can no longer do everything. You can say this about even of the mommobile SUVs that everyone is making now too. They make no sense because they can't really do any more then what a car could do. So why opt for one if you can buy something that is much better at doing what you're looking for the sporty SUV to do?

you do realize the Grand Cherokee and the SRT8 Cherokee... the only part numbers that are in common are the "cherokee" badges right?

Right, and I get that. BUT, it's still badged a cherokee. and you know, since I'm pretty sure I was conceived in a cherokee there's certain expectations of that branding that's been built up over time.

Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - G.Irish - 02-21-2013

I'd wager that the vast majority of SUV owners don't tow, and even less go off-road. Even then you can still use them for the extra space, although a minivan would be better in that respect. So a sport SUV is no worse than a regular SUV for most people, except for the gas mileage and price. Most of them can tow a good amount (even if they look stupid doing so), so they're not really hurting in that department either.

I was unaware that an XJ was big enough to be used as a smush room. Then again, I hardly fit in the driver's seat, so...

Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - Kaan - 02-21-2013

so other than rock crawl... which jeeps normally do... not many other SUVs do (or at least they dont do it well enough to even consider it)... they do what other SUVs do. they are big-ish comfy 4x4s with drop down seats and a little tow hitch. being in NOVA (land of SUVs) no one actually uses the UTILITY portion of the SUV.

Re: Sport SUV's, Love Em or Hate Em? - WRXtranceformed - 02-21-2013

Just buy a new Tahoe or Suburban and Callaway supercharge it. Pimp inside, good looks outside, sleeper under the hood.

Right, and all those people are idiots. get an awd car if you're afraid of snow.

Its a GRAND Cherokee that its branded as... and if you knew the difference is the "utility" (aka off road use) of a GRAND Cherokee vs. a XJ Cherokee... you'd realize its just as useful off road Wink

if you have ever riden in a stock XJ, a modded XJ, a stock WJ/ZJ, a modded WJ/ZJ, and then a stock SRT8... none of them are the same. the buyers arent even the same. they arent marketed to the XJ people or even the WJ/ZJ people... they are literally a Cherokee in name and thats it.

they dont have the ground clearance that the SRT8 has. thats part of its "utility"
