I think it's a great idea to get a Chumpcar together for MM. From what I've seen here, DJ's posts are along the same lines I would suggest: begin by taking everything unnecessary out of the car. Everything. Weight is the enemy.

You're right that it's not cheap, but for getting major seat time and racing experience, it is much less expensive than anything else I know of, in cars.

You will need a welder or fabricator qualified to build a strong, effective cage inside (not a first-timer).

As for hauling, you might just rent or borrow a truck/SUV and a flatbed for the occasion. Follow-up on your potential sponsorships, and maybe you can enlist various kinds of help--monetary, physical, or logistical.

Also doesn't Matt have that big F150? Can that tow anything? As for a trailer, I may invest in one, if need be. I also believe Uhaul has some cheap ones to rent.

Uhh it could tow that car but thats oxymoron of "big f150". Yes the truck is big but it doesn't have big towing capabilities although it could easily tow an e30 on steel or aluminum trailers provided they aren't too big. However my truck stays in Richmond and I don't plan on ever keeping it up here while I have another vehicle up here and I don't plan on having it as my only vehicle up here unless MM wants to pay my personal gas bills (sorry to sound like a dick but I'm not going to spending an extra $50-$100 a week when I have a 4 cyl car that costs me like $50 a month). I wouldn't mind towing but that would require me to drive home, get the truck, get the car, take it to the track, and then reverse the entire process. This would also be a lot of fuel and time which I usually work on Fridays or have class.

I also wouldn't really let anyone else tow with my truck. Sorry but lifted trucks don't handle the same as regular ones and there are just too many unknowns with towing. Nor does my insurance allow anyone not listed on the policy to drive it unless they are over 25.

It's just not logistical at this point in time. Sorry to be buzz killington here

Check out this e30 chump build thread. They seem like complete beginners and might give you an idea of what to expect.

Awesome build, but hopefully we don't have to pull the engine right away (I'm sure it will happen down the road). It's running fine at the moment.

I printed out the Rulebook for you guys. Most of you who are interested including officers will be up at Turducken and I am sure there will be a few minutes between comign back from the DC auto show and the start of people coming over for Turducken. Bring your thinking caps and let's come up with a starting plan.

Re: MM Chump car - Sully - 01-30-2013

Hey just a thought, would this be a better starting point? Unless you can get a cheap cage like has been talked about

You do know that is Boobies' car right? If you guys can come up with $2500, you would be stupid not to buy it and start with it.

Re: MM Chump car - CaptainHenreh - 01-30-2013

Bet boobies would give you a discount too.

Re: MM Chump car - Jewels - 01-30-2013

Yeah, I'm sure Boobies would cut the club a break for sure. Especially to see it turn into something this cool.

Re: MM Chump car - JPolen01 - 01-30-2013

Shit I'll pull the trigger on that right now. Didn't even think about it. Our account would be drained though..

Someone should talk to him and see if he has any serious buyers interested or how much time we might have to come up with the dough.

Ill hit up chris on the facespace and direct him here.

Re: MM Chump car - ispoonwithmugen - 01-30-2013

That would also take us out of the Chump car with some of the stuff, and I'm not sure that that is a legal cage. It would be an awesome car though.

Let's not count it out yet. I'm sure stuff could be replaced to meet Chump Car standards. It would save a ton of time/money if it were a legal car.

Not legal cage, all the bushings/shocks/springs would need to be removed, engine is slow; would definitely need to be replaced with the 325i motor.

However it IS A known good chassis and running motor that you could work from. Costs about ~$1100 to finish off the cage, already has a seat and rails.

Re: MM Chump car - premiershine9 - 01-30-2013

Looking forward to talking about this Saturday

The motor in Boobies' car is an Eta, but so is the motor in Garrett's black coupe (it's an es).
