Seems like we're assuming he doesn't have the funds to do this? Let's leave his financial decisions to him.
That being said, it is a good idea to get a solid but un-splashy DD. I was planning on getting something along the Mazda 3 lines (idk why, i just like them) to go to and from work. It seems like though that you just aren't enjoying the Camaro anymore, which is a different story.

I mean I'm not looking forward to a car payment, but I'll do it. I have a budget and think that my current income would support it. Bonus and raise coming up in the next 5 months assuming I stay here, which I will. That being said, it's not that I do not enjoy the Camaro. I just want something that has all of the modern amenities, doesn't ride like a wagon, and has way less than 96k miles on it. I thought about the "keep the Camaro and get a cheaper DD" option, but do not have the room for two vehicles where I live. Plus I still have the 72 Camaro at my mom's collecting dust. \
Should do some snooping around this weekend.
I appreciate all of the info/opinions thus far. Some very good points have been made.

I agree though, with this idea and what Dave said to a T. I wanted to say G37S coupe (they're very sexy), screw the stereotypes. I love my Jeep for its usefulness and reliability, but if you're willing to take THAT much of a hit to your fuel economy numbers (which it sounds might not be all that important for your commute), I say go for the G which would be leagues better. Quick, comfortable, looks great, "adult", etc.

Test drove a 2010 A5. Gorgeous car, but the 211 HP 2.0T warrants a "meh". Also, for $35k, you get a car with a sunroof that only tilts and does not open, a non-electrochromic mirror, and you have to buy an adapter to pull tunes via bluetooth. The interior is beautifully designed IMO, though. Basically. looks good, establishes the image I'm going after, but has 50% the HP of the Camaro and lacks the value for the price. Test drives will continue.

Ugh there is a brandy-new S4 sedan that parks near me at work every day, so ridiculously awesome.
Chris would you be willing to look a couple years older and roll the budget back at a bit? Since the power and features seemed lacking for the price, you could get a fully loaded, balls out model of something for ~$25k and keep the extra money for fancy-car maintenance. There's the aforementioned E55 AMG (or any AMG models from ~2005-2008), you could get into a Cayman S in that price range (so you can really show the plebeians who's boss), E39 M5, E46 M3, maybe a E90/92 M3 or definitely a 335i sport. You could also get into a slightly older S4, but out of the whole mess that one would probably be the biggest pain in the ass.
I'm always inclined to go a little bit older and get "more car," especially when you have room in the budget to keep it in fighting shape, and a few simple DIY projects can give you a lot of the creature comforts of the brand new cars, but to each their own.

There's a bit of a difference between having something in budget for repairs, maintenance when you are financing vs. paying cash. I dont know if you said whether you are paying cash or financing, or have a big downpayment, etc etc. Just make sure if you buy something for 25, that 10 grand difference for maintenance either needs to be in the form of the downpayment you dont spend, or extra payments you make to yourself as if you bought a 35k car. just something to think about, if you're not paying cash.

Joey, I like your ideas. 2006-2008 Caymans have definitely been returned in my searches. I'll scope out some other Germans as well.
Also, as info, Camaro will be traded/sold privately as down payment. Balance financed.

<ducks head>Have you considered a 2010 SHO? :lol: </ducks head> They are selling for stupid cheap with very low miles, have 2x the turbo of anything else mentioned and run high to mid 12 second 1/4 miles. Only thing is they are not that great looking and are auto only :dunno:
