verizon allows non verizon devices to be activated with an LTE sim
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://support.verizonwireless.com/information/4gsim.html">http://support.verizonwireless.com/info ... 4gsim.html</a><!-- m -->

same goes for AT&T

its the device thats locked to a network, not the network (or sim) itself. if you have a device that is compatible you are good. It just so happens that afaik nobody has realeased a phone compatible with both ATT and V LTE bands.
if google released that device you could activate it wherever it has the right radios for.

Coworker got his hands on a Surface already.

His quick review "20% awesome/new ideas, 80% WTF."

I'll hopefully drop by his place today in order to get dirty with it.

iPad mini quick thoughts...

Size iis the best I've found in a tablet. Not too big/heavy like regular iPad (the 3 got too heavy IMO). Much more usable screen than similar tablets. Much better build quality than the competition. Typing feels far more natural than on any other device I've used. Will be great for reading as it's crazy light. Adds a lot of portability to the iPad lineup... but... non-Retina screen sucks. Not sure how they'd think they could get away with this. The difference between my phone and iPad3 is night and day with this thing and it sucks. It's the only reason I wouldn't make this my premier tablet.

When they do release a retina mini, they'll have perfected the tablet... I think.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 11-05-2012

Thoughts later in the day. This screen resolution really does suck. Apple fail. I'd love to know why they didn't make it happen. This could have been an amazing device. Instead, it's mediocre and I can't really recommend it given the resolutions available on other devices.

I'm guessing because they were quickly losing the 7" market and they needed to push something out the door.

But they have the tech...

It probably cost development cycles to make it smaller effectively. The next ver will likely have it.

Why make a perfect product when they know iSheep will buy it anyway and then buy a Mini 2 that has the retina screen again in 6 months?

they had to make it ipad2 resolution for software backwards compatibility. iOS doesnt have built in scaling and im sure they didnt want to force devs to develop for one more resolution.
They could have done retina resolution, but either the technology doesnt exist for a 8" retina resolution panel , or it makes the text too small (or its just too expensive to hit apples inflated margin targets)

Seems like perhaps not everyone was convinced.

I can't convince myself the 7" form factor is worth a damn.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - HAULN-SS - 11-06-2012

I like the 7 inch form factor bebecause it makes the keyboard a good size, but i just bought a kindle fire hd for 215$

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 11-06-2012

I like the 7" tablet size for travel. I gave away my old TF101 to a buddy of mine and his wife when I bought the N7 and never looked back.

Been using my N7 heavily lately after putting it down for a while. Still no complaints about it. The size is great for me.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - CaptainHenreh - 11-06-2012

7" is a gentleman's size. 10" is just barbaric.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 11-06-2012

10" for home on the coffee table.
7" for the road.

mobile computing is the future, I see 10" getting phased out in the next 5-10 years.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 11-06-2012

I use 10" when I travel and think it's the right size. :dunno:

Evan Wrote:I see 10" getting phased out in the next 5-10 years.

In the next 5-10 years we're going to have fold up screens, so size will be a thing of the past.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 11-06-2012

my full review of the mini. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.iammike.org/2012/11/06/ipad-mini-lacking-resolution/">http://www.iammike.org/2012/11/06/ipad- ... esolution/</a><!-- m -->

could be the best device available if the screen didn't suck. it's still the best 7" tablet (it's actually more like 8", but the mid-sized market likes to say 7"), but it could have crushed the competition.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 11-07-2012

Surface is... very cool. Couldn't find anything to hate. It's a little confusing, but once you figure out what you're doing, it's pretty beastly. Hardware is pretty good. Keyboard cover is kind of funny feeling, screen needs more pixels, but... I'm impressed. If you're a Windows guy, I think you'd be really happy with it. If you're Apple, iPad is still the winner. Android is getting blown away IMO. They desperately need to get some more apps. The keyboard cover is a requirement IMO (it's optional, but good luck without it).
