Neither, they have no soul.

Gingers have lots of souls. They collect them.

Okay here we go, I'm still fuming from this:

Customer: Ahh yeah I need a spark wire for my Nissan

Me: OK what year?

Customer: 2004

Me: which Nissan is it?

Customer: 2004

Me: yes but which one

Customer: a Nissan

Me: yes but which model, which Nissan, what is it??

Customer: ITS A 2004 NISSAN I TOLD YOU

Me: *stares at the keyboard trying to keep it together*

Me, all the time. Just replace "keyboard" with "bus steering wheel" or "self" or "life."

When you put in your 2 weeks notice on Thursday and the director tells you that Friday (today) is your last day and then asks you to come in on Monday. No chance.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - G.Irish - 06-03-2016

Hahaha, wow. So director was all Salty McPeepants about your 2 weeks notice and decided to semi-fire you, then realize they need you on Monday?

Pretty much. Guy taking my territory called out sick today so I couldn't give him the lowdown in person. I typed up a nice 3 page document so he will be fine. But yeah no chance I was coming in on Monday after he told me to pretty much fuck off.

Ha, sales life. Pretty common for most direct sales roles for them to cut you lose vs. having you spend the next two weeks checked out. In that scenario, I wouldn't come in on Monday either, especially since they're probably cutting you from payroll today.

They are paying me out, but I am still not coming back in. I offered to stay on next week to help the adjustment, but I was told not to worry about it. So I ain't.

Are they paying owed commissions too? If so that is great and not the norm. I know real estate / new home sales reps that walked away from deep 5 figure backlogs to take a new job

Is that really not the norm in your industry? Never heard of that in the IT industry, you worked on it, you earned it, you get paid for it. Make sure my contract states that when I sign.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 06-03-2016

I will get commission on anything delivered (our metric) up until today. After that nothing even if I have sold it. Sucks but I am okay with that. They are paying me my hourly rate until the 10th (the last day I offered to them).

Yeah sales is a different animal but it varies based on how you're paid. It is very rare if not non-existent, even for 100% commission jobs, to get paid the entirety of your commission up front. Most companies stretch out what they "owe" you over a period of time, or at certain milestones. There are a few reasons they do that, the biggest one likely to preserve cash flow. It also helps keep reps around and keep them productive. If I am a sales rep, I destroy my entire yearly quota by the end of Q2 (I've done this) and I was paid all up front it would not give most people a ton of motivation to continue to work hard or even stick around the company. Our company also has a yearly incentive trip that is really sick and people don't want to miss out on it...but it doesn't happen until March of the following year. That helps keep winners from leaving Feb 1 after their yearly kicker bonus hits (which can be $30K - $500k+++ for trip winners)

Yeah that's pretty standard and nothing to bum out about. Good luck in your new venture man hopefully it is an exciting one!

 that's amazing. just the fact that he came back, probably knowing he f'ed up hard, and thought he could actually persuade you to do that. outstanding performance there.

would it be too bridge-burney to send him a basket of saltiness to help smooth the transition further?

People who smoke cigarettes in areas with clearly marked signs stating No Smoking. This happens all of the time at airports, specifically right at the entrance / exit doors to arrivals / departures. I smoke my pipe like an old man or a cigar occasionally (both of which are way different than smoking cigs and 99% of the time it's at home) but I am honestly surprised that people still smoke cigarettes in this day and age. I get it, if you want to destroy your body that's fine but don't destroy mine too. Don't be that guy that rushes off the plane and can't wait to get to the designated smoking areas to cheef a cigarette.
