Re: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 12-02-2013

I finally dumped Yelp at 59.01 - 21 months after buying at $22.49. It flirted with $70 for awhile but it hasn't been doing well lately so I realized some gains.

In doing some digging, I noticed Mastercard. The last I checked it was like $400. Confusedhock:

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-06-2013

I thought I remembered some bitcoin discussion here, I just got an email from my brother this morning with an analysis article on them from Merrill. He is with Merrill Lynch now by the way for anyone who wanted to connect with him. He outgrew ING and is now with a $600M+ ML team in DC:

Quote:I think you will see that as a diversified investment vehicle it is not a good idea yet, from Merrill Lynch’s research. The value has been known to change 190% in one day up and down. Extremely volatile, but has potential to become an interesting investment in the future because of its low correlation to other assets (similar to gold or silver). Right now it is just too speculative and too many unknowns, the more it becomes adopted the more stable it should become.

I've got the report in my inbox, if anyone wants a copy just shoot me a PM with your email address.

Re: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 12-06-2013

I wonder how much money Merrill paid for that assessment.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-06-2013

Dunno but it was done by their internal strategists. You can call them and ask them how much they make Tongue

Pretty sure I could do that job...

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-06-2013

Yeah are you are an FX and Rate Strategist?

Re: Stock Market Thread - .RJ - 12-06-2013

Mikey would just invest everyone into apple and hipster kickstarter campaigns.

Point being the evaluation they arrived at is in pretty much every article about Bitcoin on the internet.

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-06-2013

I understand that but there is a huge difference between stating an obvious conclusion and going further to augment it with cost-benefit analyses, evaluating what is likely to hold it back / make it grow, comparisons to its current substitutes, assessments of its fair value, and market capitalizations. I would think the armchair traders would be foaming at the mouth for that stuff because it tells you when would be a likely time if any to buy into a new investment.

not to mention, "digital gold" is exactly what it was designed to be.

bitcoin isnt an investment. neither is gold.
thats kind of the point.

when you stop looking at the dollar as the reference point, the valuations of things like bitcoins (and equities for that matter) have less to do with bitcoins, and more to do with how we are destroying the value of the dollar (via things like QE)

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-06-2013

Mm I don't know if I agree with you regarding gold. I haven't bought any specifically as an investment but some of those commodities are not bad places to put your doll hairs to hedge against inflation. Shoot there are even some wealthy people who have been putting their money into specific works of art because they hold their value so well. It's probably hard to get rich putting your money into gold but it doesn't seem like a bad way to diversify.

I am at the stage in my life where I am looking for more aggressive growth vehicles so I am not going to keep gold stacks lying around.

I think you and Evan are saying the same thing. Gold isn't an investment, it's protection.

Dogecoin (yes that's real) is the only cryptocurrency to rise in value in the last 24 hours. It's a 12 day old currency that's similar to bitcoin in how it's mined. It's sort of a joke currency, but it also has a market cap above $2 million already.

I'm going to set my computer up to mine later tonight for shits and giggles.
