Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 07-27-2015 Well I called you ignorant because you made a statement similar to one. Now that I see you understand you aren't. Also, I agree no dip will ever be 100% paint... that's just not physically possible. And I agree all products have that where it looks great and other angles or lighting it doesn't. My goal wasn't to get it to look like real paint... I decided on a satin finish. I personally like the look of matte and gloss together. It does look better in person. I'm disappointed in pictures right now. All I'm saying is for where these products came from what is on the market now is amazing. It's fricken rubber that almost looks like paint. Plus this adds the nice benefit of protecting paint and will last 1-4 years depending on care. Everyone has their opinion though. Sure gloss black is nice, but I love the way it looks now better. I'm just youngin that wants to be hip though so what do I know... Personally I'm most interested in that autodip product, I think maybe because orange peel is a common defect in real paint, even from the factory, so if it had a consistent level of gloss, and there was less peel out of a gun vs. a can, then I'd actually be pretty interested in it. It looks like they only plan to offer professional installs and not sell it by the gallon though, so that casts it out right there. I shot them an email anyway to ask about DIY options. I'm only interested in it as a <$500 temporary color change to have some fun and hide the damage to my factory paint for a few years until I could cough up the cash to have it completely stripped and resprayed the factory color. I definitely want to see the Raail stuff in person, I have a feeling the obnoxious teal/light blue color I would choose might have less of an issue with the gloss effect than the darker colors I could find photos of. Roughly how much product did you use on your car? Looks like the Raail stuff is $63/gallon, plus $24 per gallon for the "color drop in" if you want metallic. So pretty much $100/gal. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 07-27-2015 My car used 4 gallons. 2 gallons black base. 2 gallons DYC new topcoat. Something like 6-8 bags of atlantic colorshift pearl? I'm not sure on the pearl amount as Scott bought everything. If you do it yourself it's gonna look like shit at first. Have to take time and practice until it looks better. Look into Halo EFX and stuff. DYC will be the easiest to do it by yourself. Most dips like Raail, Halo, and that stuff need actual paint gun systems where DYC doesn't and is harder to get right. Materials alone + prep and gun = $600-800 for DYC stuff. It will be higher for other companies or maybe even similar :dunno: Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - SlimKlim - 07-27-2015 I have some experience with paint but it would definitely be a learning curve. If I got serious about wanting to do it I'd probably try and convince Jake that his life wont be complete unless his race car is purple next year so I can use it as a guinea pig. ![]() So back to the dip world, the "Glossifier" is old news right, and the "DipPearl Top Coat" is supposed to be the bees knees? I think the stuff I've been unimpressed with used the Glossifier. You used the "Top Coat" with all the pearl added in and it created the satin finish? It's interesting stuff for sure, I'd definitely like to see some cars in person with similar finishes to what I'd want on my car and see if it still seems like a good idea. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Sully - 07-27-2015 I have no idea where my long rant ended up but I don't feel like typing it again. Maybe it'll show up in someone's pms or something Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 07-27-2015 Sully, it's somewhere back there hahaha. Joey, yes that's it. Not sure how Raail works though. You'll have to do some research on that. To create the Satin finish yes the pearl bags were all added to that Top Coat. To get high gloss you need to add some extra coats of just the Top Coat alone usually another gallon or two. Here's examples of the new Top Coat in high gloss: ![]() ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - SlimKlim - 07-27-2015 Yeah I've been IMing with Sully and poking around. This is my favorite so far. ![]() Flex Blue Base + 25grams-per-gallon of "Bora Bora" pearl. I think with a smidge more pearl in it, it would look very similar to OEM Atlantis Blue. ![]() I'd have to get some speedshapes and play with which blue to use as a basecoat and how much pearl to use to use to get it as close as I could. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 07-27-2015 SlimKlim Wrote:Yeah I've been IMing with Sully and poking around. Lols Sully. I want to see the rant again. I almost did the color on the Porsche, but then I saw the Atlantic and liked it a bit more. Keep looking around. It can be super close to paint with the new Top Coat and to get the color you want you can add differen colors to your liking. I'm sure in the next few years it will only get better too  Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - *insertusernamehere* - 07-27-2015 I'll reserve judgement til I see your car in person.... But I also already told you this at the track ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 07-27-2015 *insertusernamehere* Wrote:I'll reserve judgement til I see your car in person.... Don't even bother. It makes me :vomit: when I look at it Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Sully - 07-27-2015 I have no idea what screen I was in when I typed it but I swore it was the post box. Then I pressed submit and it took me a screen where I was quoting Joey but all my text was gone. I did it all on my phone. It took painfully long. I don't feel like typing it again. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Sully - 07-27-2015 TRY ALL THE BLUES! ! ! ![]() I actually have about 7 more I think on the way as well and after talking with Joey, may be ordering a couple more to try. Plus I found some more on another site lol. Guna be awhile but I'm going to find the best blue there is, at least in my opinion Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 07-27-2015 The corner worker isn't going to know what color to call the car next time you spin! ;$ Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Sully - 07-27-2015 Kaan Wrote:The corner worker isn't going to know what color to call the car next time you spin! ;$Kinda like that rx7 that used to come out. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 08-01-2015 Joey, This video in dippers anon where it literally just gets torn by rubbing it. Don't trust what you see. It also does not come off easy as well. ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Beej - 08-01-2015 I'm sure this is a dumb question, but on plastidip maintenance: what it is? It's matte to begin with, and isn't it rubber-ish? What happens when you scrub bugs off, or go to town on bird shit or tree sap? Can it be polished, or whatever? How about taking it off? Does it dry out at some point and lose the peeling ability? Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 08-01-2015 Beej Wrote:I'm sure this is a dumb question, but on plastidip maintenance: what it is? It's durable enough so you can just wipe it off and scrub as long as you aren't using harsh chemicals to dip and as long as you use things like Dip-Coat(basically wax) to maintain it it will last and be easily pee-able for 2 years or so. If there are enough coats there won't be an issue. People pressure wash dip all the time. I'm interested to see more reviews when they get their product out there a little more, I can't really find anything now.
