How about people who drive with an iPad on their steering wheel watching Netflix? I swear I see this ALL OF THE TIME here

How do people have enough data for that?

You know what grinds my gears? Bodyshops.

I swear, whatever the timeline is, extrapolate by double. You give them 2 months? It takes 4 (previous car). They say 4 days? Ha! 8 days and counting (currently)

I know they are bad, BUT COME ON, this isn't a negligible fudge factor, it's an insult.

Fucking car dealerships and car sales in general. Let me tell you about my wasted Saturday.

Wake up and go to the bank for a pre-approval for a used 2016 RDX (20k on the odometer - guess someone didn't like it or couldn't afford it). I wanted to have paperwork in hand to buy the vehicle pending a test drive and all that jazz. It was located at Audi of Tysons. Called the dealer when they opened and set up an appointment with Tim to see the RDX. Bank takes longer than expected but I stayed in touch with Tim and he assured me all was well - he was out gassing it up for us.

We show up and are greeted by the usual vulture on the lot and inform him of our appointment. He asks what car we are there to see and I inform him the 2016 RDX right over there. The bewildered look on his face told me all I needed to know. He says someone is buying the car right now but he will get Tim.

Tim and his sales manager inform me that another couple showed up 30 minutes prior and is in the financing office working on the car. No courtesy call from Tim even though he knew we were coming from out of state. Claims he didn't know the other guy was selling it. Bullshit.

Why do we as a society put up with this from car dealerships? I would NEVER have one of my customers come to my location if I knew the product was not there or in the process of being sold. Maybe I'm not as much as a scumbag sales guy as I thought? I don't know. I wasn't looking for an audi so even if they wanted to upsell me into another car they couldn't have. Fuck Audi of Tysons and the auto dealer industry in general.

/rant.

Super lame man I'm sorry. For what it's worth, we bought our RDX over the internet from Karen Radley Acura up in Hoodbridge and they were really good to work with. If you ever want to take a weekend and come down to Charlotte, the Hendrick Acura down here is world-class. SUPER good guys to work with, we service our car there and would have bought from them too but they didn't have the exact car we were looking for. Y'all can stay with us~

the difference is that to them, money is money and the customer base is practically infinite...all sales guys care about are the numbers. for every person they piss off another will wander into their lot or come see a car they like. the dealership is also enough of a big, complex animal that any sales guy can pretty much make up an alibi on the spot as you suspected. you don't have to be accountable in a system like that.

the only thing you can really do is leave feedback/ratings and make your story available to others.

Yeah, definitely worth sharing your story Jon. Sucks that they sold it out from under you Sad I had something similar happen when F150 shopping.

I called on a Sunday morning to Koon's Sterling Ford about a black FX4 they had that looked great and was priced well. First guy says oh, people are here in the process of buying it, don't come. I head to check out another one at a different dealer. Get a call from a different guy at Koon's saying the truck is available, come on over. While driving there I get a call from the first guy saying the second guy didn't know it was already sold.

Fuckers.

Had something similar happen to me with a dealer in VA Beach. I was looking at a 2005 STi at the time. This was way back before I had my evo. VA Beach is a 4 hour drive for me and I made sure that they knew that and called right before closing the evening before to confirm that they had the car and everything was good for me to look at it first thing in the morning. We got up really early to be there when they opened and made the trip there.

They never even had the car they had advertised and tried to get me to buy a car at an auction without ever seeing it in person. He even took me on a walk around the dealership pretending to look for it. Fuck those guys. 8 hours of driving wasted for their stupid bullshit.

My phone was ringing off the hook when I was buying my new GTI. What new car dealers are apparently doing is putting impossibly low prices into True Car to get your phone number, then calling you and trying to get you through the door so they can sell you a car with fewer options for the same price. Here's about how the phone calls go.

"Hi Mr. Klimmeck, I see that you're interested in a 2015 Golf GTI"

"Uh yeah, TrueCar is saying you can do a DSG SE w/lighting for $26,900?"

"Yes, absolutely Mr. Kleamchick, would you like to come look at the vehicle today?"

"Well I'm pretty surprised to see you listing one for that price, do you actually have the vehicle in stock?"

"Absolutely Mr. Cumclock"

"So you are guaranteeing me that if I get in the car and come to your dealership right now, you will sell me a Pure White 2015 VW Golf GTI SE w/DSG and Lighting package for $26,900?"

"Could I put you on hold for just one second Mr. Klumchunk?"

...
...
...
...
...

"Mr. Klitchop? Hi, actually we dont have that exact model in stock but would you be interest in a Silver 4-door stickshift S..." *click*

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Kaan - 03-23-2016

the lady said something like "if you dont want muslims to come into this country you are a racist."

Muslim isnt a race... middle eastern, according to the census is white (i know i've had to check it my entire life)...

I'm not sure if the muslim and race thing burns me or its just politics today.

People seem to think religion or ethnic groups are races these days. There are only 3 races, yet people still fail to realize this...
