Just peace of mind. The wiring has been messed with more times than I can count and it wouldn't be the most unheard of thing for it to spray oil all over glowing hot headers. I figure it's a small cost to avoid a potential disaster. It also looks super cool to have one strapped in front of the passenger's seat.

Honestly everyone should have a fire extinguisher.

i've got one in my trunk organizer. not even worried about me, so much as if i come up on a fresh accident where me having the ability to put a small fire out on the spot might save someone's life/car/property

this'n here:

its tiny and cheap....no-brainer.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 04-17-2017

I looked at that one but ended up going for this guy.

14"x3.5", hopefully still small enough to mount in front of the seat.

Don't forget a passenger could knock their head on that in a bad accident. I don't know where you plan to mount it though.

Under the front of the seat like this, except on the passenger's side.

Speaking of, I'm tired of looking at rust, so I want to paint my brake calipers. I had been thinking a nice medium-dark non-metallic gray color would look really nice, but your color options tend to be extremely limited with the high heat caliper paints.

I can do blue:

OEM-looking silver:

Or black:

I'm leaning torwards silver or blue. The blue looks nice but might be a bit much or look like I wish I had a new M4 with the calipers already blued from the factory. Thoughts? :dunno:

Same spot I had mine in the Miata, and the one oh-shit moment I had to grab it, I'm glad it was there!

Having said that, 13 year old me demands that you replicate this setup with nozzles routed throughout the car

Blue calipers on a yellow car?

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - WRXtranceformed - 04-18-2017

I've done black on a few cars and it always looks good, nice and stealth. My next choice from those would be silver.

I highly recommend the G2 kits though vs. the engine spray paint. You pour another chemical into the paint and it makes it much thicker. When it dries it creates almost like a hard version of Plastidip; it never fades and you basically cant chip or crack it if you hit it with a wrench. You can still remove your calipers and paint it all around if you want, I never bothered and just painted as far back as I could see and it worked great.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - JPolen01 - 04-18-2017

I like the blue. If you go with silver you should stencil on some ///M logos. Or find some heat resistant caliper stickers.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - RawrImAMonster - 04-18-2017

Black and paint the M colors on the M logo indents. I'm guessing you can find colors close to the light blue and dark blue/purple.

 to the silver idea. not the blue though.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 04-18-2017

I thought about trying to stencil in the ///M stamps but I think to get the correct colors I'd be ordering 4 different colors of that "G2" kit. White for the M, then teal, violet and red. Given that you can't actually see the ///M stamps with the wheel installed, it seems like a lot of cost and effort for a pretty tiny detail, even for me. :dunno: I'm not gonna just throw some model paint or whatever on there, it'll flake off the first time I do an auto-x.

I was gonna argue with you Goody but I looked up a photo of an F80 M3 painted Dakar and I think I agree.

Lee that special chemical you dump into the G2 kit is just hardener, any paint has some sort of hardener in it, the ones in spray cans just typically take longer to activate. If properly prepped, the cans will last just as long as the brush on stuff, but its easier to get an even finish.

Why not just do clear? Don't that have a clear coat caliper paint? Which reminds me I need to paint my new calipers before this weekend.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 04-18-2017

Cuz they're rust brown right now, that's the only reason I want to mess with them, I'm just tired of them peeking out from behind my nice wheels to remind me how old and shitty my car actually is.

After looking at more photos and soliciting opinions from the peanut gallery I've decided to do the silver and just go for a new OEM look.
