looking into Electric PW as well, just gotta look at the PSI, and you should be good.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 10-25-2016

This ain't Rustburg Taylor. The reason I bought an electric one is because I can hear a kid bouncing a basketball six houses down while I'm sitting on my couch, running a gas powered pressure washer every other weekend morning would be considered a dick move. I got the most basic SunJoe, the SPX1000 or something, which is 1450psi.

Yes, cleaning concrete is extremely tedious with it, but that's not why I bought it. It is plenty powerful for using on cars, which is it's intended purpose. There's no reason to be blasting your paint at 3000psi+.

I can't tell you anything about the one you linked Ryan, but I don't think the built in tanks will have the same effect as a foam gun, I think it's meant to mix some degreaser or mildew remover into your high pressure flow for hardcore, non-automotive cleaning, I could be wrong.

And yes, they sell cheaper foam guns, but the fittings are not universal. That $25 one wont work with the SunJoe washers.

I guess I'm just used to loud mowers?

No one in my neighborhood owns a gas powered mower either. Most of us just have electric trimmers to take care of the weeds that pop up along our driveways and in front of our stairs. Only the people with end units actually have grass to maintain, but even then its about a 10'x20' patch.

It's a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong way from SW VA where mowing the yard is a several-hour weekend chore.

correct, its a metered-flow detergent tank. it sucks the tank contents into the wand stream through the venturi effect. its not super accurate in how precisely it meters and i'm 99% sure the design won't aerate the liquid enough that you could use it for foaming something.

What a Joey move. Makes a post warning us that he's about to make a post.

Only he can pull it off as successfully. The yellow car gets an update and the crowd goes wild.

It's the MM way, it's more fun if you get teased a little first.

But I'm not trying to be too cloak and dagger about it or anything. I accepted a job offer and got my official start date set for the end of the month, pretty much right after I leave my current job. Big Grin

My plan is to get it into the shop once all the salt gets rinsed off the roads and have them go through it tip to tail and make sure I'm diagnosing things correctly and/or that I'm not missing anything important.

I'm probably going to replace the clutch and go to a single mass flywheel (assuming that scary chirping/crunching noise is in fact the TOB like I suspect), I think the front end needs LCAs, and I want to replace all of the brake lines and the soft clutch line for peace of mind. Depending on how bad the damage for all of that ends up being, I might also do some minor cosmetic and nice-to-have things until I hit my spending pain threshold, I've always wanted that nice OEM looking gauge kit that replaces the sunglasses holder...

I also need to make a junkyard trip soon, once the weather warms up a bit. I need to salvage some brake line brackets from another car's rear trailing arms, get a decent looking parcel shelf I can dye black, and see if I can find a few un-broken interior trim pieces while I'm at it.

If you end up in Jessup at Crazy Rays, holla.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 03-15-2017

I tend to favor the Mt Airy one because its a better drive but it'll depend on who has the best inventory when I decide to go, I'll letcha know.

Congrats on the job! I guess that means you ain't traveling to Richmond for detailing stuff. So I wax and then polish and then clay and then wash it for a shine?

Glad to hear the e36 is gonna get some love!

There's a place near me that does all of that automatically on a little conveyor belt for like $15, although they use big dangly brushes instead of a claybar

Yeah looks like I'm not taking on any detailing projects. And that's a good list, just reverse it.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 04-14-2017

Ok. I dropped the car off at Mach V for a full diagnostic this morning. I had been planning to use Coho in Manasses simply because I had a good experience with them in the past, but a shop that's 10 minutes from my house is a lot easier to get to than one that's 45. Support your local mod shops and all that.

The news from the inspection was pretty good. All of the suspension is tight so they think the wander it has is because the toe is whacked out, certainly plausible given the condition of most NOVA roads. It looks like my ~4 year old radiator hoses are already looking iffy, which might explain the vague coolant smell I get from time to time.

They couldn't replicate the clutch issue but agree with my assessment that a temperature-dependent squeaking/crunching noise is very likely to be the TOB, given the age of the clutch in it. I've decided to just pull the trigger on it, eliminate the mystery of not knowing how many miles are on my clutch, and stop worrying about getting stuck in a gear when the TOB finally throws in the towel.

With a rough budget in mind I paired down the list necessary items, good-idea-while-you're-in-there-items, and left room for some fun mods, which are ultimately just an expression of how much I don't want to replace another headgasket.

So here's the build sheet, a lot of it will be done by Mach V, some of it I'll DIY:

New clutch kit & lightweight single-mass flywheel, will probably go with Bimmerworld's "Stage 1" that pairs the M5 clutch disc with an aluminum flywheel.
New SS Clutch Line
New Slave Cylinder
New Shifter Carrier Bushing
New Starter Solenoid (might as well throw another $75 at it while the trans is out to see if it resolves my occasional hot start issue where the car sounds like its eating gravel)
New Clutch Pedal Arm (mine leans to the side)
New Giubo (already has a crack so shop recommends it while they're in there)
New SS Brake Lines
Electric Fan Conversion (with some sort of override switch so even in the freak chance the temp sensor or relay fails I can make sure that fucker is blowing)
Motion Motorsport Underpanel
Leatherz Gauge Kit
OEM Fire Extinguisher Mount + Auto Grade Exinguisher
Alignment
Oil Change

If anyone needs me this weekend I'll be destroying a credit card. Confusedhock:

I also scored a really nice parcel shelf at the junkyard a few weeks ago I'm going to dye black and install, I've given up on trying to make the microsuede stay stuck down to that stupid thing. I'm gonna DIY the brake lines so I can take the calipers off and paint them, I'm tired of looking at rust colored brakes behind my beautiful wheels. I've got a broken trim piece to replace on the front left fender and I'm going to try to use a hair dryer or heat gun or something to get the damn kink out of the rear valence. Then a few more super minor odds and ends like properly rewiring my heated seats, fixing the stripped bolt on my driver's door panel, and probably some stuff I've totally forgotten about.

So that's the current marching plan. When the dust settles, barring any unexpected discoveries, I may also look into changing out the exhaust. I've gotten really stuck on the idea of a variable exhaust, but I've only found one company that sells just the mufflers, and the only thing they have that might work is dual 3" in/out, not 2.5. If I went that route I'd pay the shop to make me a cat-back out of it that I can install like an OEM replacement.

The only thing really holding me back is I can't find anyone that has done one on an N/A I6 BMW and I don't to go through all the fuss and find out the muffler just has a shitty sound on my car. Then again, I'm also way over neutral coasting past cops, and being able to flick a stealth switch would be like, SO cool. I could also offset a good bit of the cost of it by selling my relatively rare B&B.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - SlimKlim - 04-17-2017

All parts are ordered. Confusedhock: FCP had remanned starters on clearance for the same price as a new solenoid so I just bought the whole damn starter for them to throw in when the do the clutch. Might as well take care of all the "while-you're-in-theres" at this point. Mach V will most likely do the work early next week.

Re: The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebagger - JPolen01 - 04-17-2017

Why are you adding a fire extinguisher? Just piece of mind? Or do you anticipate this car unexpectedly bursting into flames?
