Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Jake - 06-04-2015 Woo, hopefully you get off the waitlist and get to play for the weekend! Hopefully NASA is able to find another instructor for this weekend. Nice, hope you get off the waitlist. Kaan, hopefully I'll see ya tomorrow.... calling all instructors to help me out  Thanks Jake and DJ, I hope I'm able to join in on a full weekend for once. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-05-2015 Anxiously waiting.... Edit: doesn't look like it is going to happen. Maybe July will workout! ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-08-2015 Alrighty, I'll get the eventful shit out of the way. Last session of HPDE1 and I'm Solo. Doing decent, a few places the car is starting to really move through. I spin at T3. At the time I was like wtf I just broke loose. I was taking the entry fine, speed good, similar turn in. Then I see the video. What it looks like from the video as in what the description says on YT: 'Looks like I put one or maybe two slightly off track right as I was turning in judging by the camera shake. Car loss all traction on right side sliding me around try to correct as soon as I felt it and tailslide the apex. I straightened the wheel as I realized I was not correcting this and put both feet in.shooting back out across track.' Also, that ricer flyby by Kaan at :55 :finger: Thought I lucked out. Slow orange E36 saved my ass by not allowing anyone behind me to catch up and be close enough. I didn't hit a wall. Go for a cooldown lap and bring her back in cause it was not worth it to continue the extra several minutes in my mind because I want to look at the car. Roll up, look around. I see my lip is gone and just like meh it was pretty fucked up anyways. And then I'm like oh fuck me. Tires got hungry ![]() Goodbye lip wherever you at turn 3 ![]() It's 5:15 or so on a Sunday. We try to start clearing shit out of the bead and of course after we clean it it is 5:30-5:35 it won't hold air it has a slow leak. Phil's is closed. Closest tire shop is 35 minutes away and they aren't waiting as they close at 6. Yeh. Try going to Autozone their shit Fix A Flat just kept bursting and jizzing white stuff all over me and Kaan lol. Call AAA. It's like 7ish. On phone with AAA for 30 minutes because some bullshit. Fill tire up to 45 psi. Drive to front gate. Tow truck shows up at 8:30ish. Not a flat bed. Lols ![]() Takes forever to do paperwork. Don't get to Kaan's preferred area shop until 9:30ish. Cry inside as she sits there on a flat and have to leave her. Have to make 2.5 hours to Richmond. Don't get back until 12:30am. A big shoutout to Kaan for all the damn help. And to Matt for waiting around and sticking with me for a ridiculously long time when he could have left. He made sure I could get back to Richmond with him. Edit: Been looking over my videos. Looks like I'm running in the low 1:30 range   and I have videos cause so don't call bs yet Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Senor_Taylor - 06-08-2015 Glad you're okay man! Could have been way worse! Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 06-09-2015 to beat the storm home last night... I can confirm with my very accurate butt dyno that you have more mid range but above 5 it doesn't feel like it pulls any harder than my Integra ![]() Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 06-09-2015 my car sounds good in your video lol edit: how did you just randomly go off track? did you fall asleep? Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-09-2015 Kaan Wrote:to beat the storm home last night... I can confirm with my very accurate butt dyno that you have more mid range but above 5 it doesn't feel like it pulls any harder than my IntegraProbably true. I think you drafting me like crazy helps, also my tuner has basically flattened my torque curve from 3-5 that's probably why. I can definitely pull on people in corners, but once I hit 5-6 I get whipped on by most cars (my car weighing probably 3200 with instructor...and only 150whp) I think I have 5-6 sessions of video so it will take awhile to process everything with work in the way. That's like 2-3 hours of video haha. I will try to make a special video for Kaan, but it may be awhile. I'm uploading each session first then making special clips Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-11-2015 So, been talking to Kaan more. That ridiculously fast integra in TTE I know now why he is. His build thread thanks to Kaan: http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?2 ... amp-videos Basically he is at a perfect weight to power of 16.39 (minimum for TTE is 16.5 or higher), but is dyno reclassed in? What does that mean? Just trying to figure out if there is a point to try TTE in the near future. My car weighing 2650 with me in it (loss of 130 lbs from base class weigbt of 2780. If I can even get it that low lol. My cars curb weight is 2868 + me = ~3050 so I'd have to lose basically 400 pounds). With whatever power I'm making ~150ish. Puts me at around ~17.5. The only thing left I could do to my car to stay in TTE would be 235 Hoosier R7 or Bridgestone R1. Calling DJ. Realistic times of my car around Summit? Taking said info above and taking into account I was running 1:34-1:35 last weekend Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - Kaan - 06-11-2015 I just made hpde 2... while I'm cognizant of my points, I wont actually give a crap until I'm bored in hpde 3 with more time on track, with more laps... things will change (aka your lap times) Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - *insertusernamehere* - 06-11-2015 ^^ you got a while to go before you're TT-ing lol. You 're making plans like you'll be this next year lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-11-2015 rherold9 Wrote:So, been talking to Kaan more. I think TTE cars should be around the 1:26-1:28 range (1:26 being a super stretch). Your car as it sits is probably more of a 1:29 car, but this is complete guess as I have never taken a car like yours around track. If you are doing 1:34s in HPDE 1 you are off to a good start. Keep working at it. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-11-2015 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Hoosier will knock off 2-3 seconds. Keep working at it. A 1:29 car as it sits now or after it is fully prepped? I'd love to see if someone can shave 5 seconds off my time. Want to see what their doing better than me and where I can improve of course. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-11-2015 The weekend was good. Finally got every single session uploaded. No issues with the car. No brake fade. Burned less than a quarter of a quart of oil. So car is running healthy so far. I really am set and focused on TTE and that's why I'm talking about so much and wanting to do it. I'm just hungry for it even if I get a year or so to go. Didn't get session 1, but basically the most eventful thing that happened was a deer ran out in front me on the front straight... was sketchy shit as I was not going to stop in time if it didn't keep running. If you want to watch the video you can see why Kaan and I were bitching about the orange e36 so much. He was very unpredictable and slow with always a huge line behind him. Other than that if you are bored you these are great time wasters haha. Kaan you can see the problem with the gear ratios and not enough power I'm talking about in some places as well. Don't worry I'm making a special video for you too. It seems like one of my fastest times of the weekend was Session 8 about 8:32-10:06? And then the lap after from like 10:04-10:38? Keep working at it. 1:29 to 1:30 as it sits. I watched the videos and you are off to an awesome start. Being within 5 seconds of what the car ultimately can do is a HUGE compliment to you for being in HPDE 1. I just "coached" a racer this past weekend, jumped in his car for one session and dropped 5.5 seconds off his time without pushing it to the ragged edge. And that's a racer. I know it's hard to understand (I didnt either), but you will once you have a bit more experience realize the speed that was left on the table once you have some time under your belt. Michael Jordan didn't become the basketball player he was on his first stint on the basketball court, it took years of training and experience. Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-15-2015 Thank you for the compliment. I enjoyed my instructor and all I just don't think he knew what small improvements I could make once I started really getting things down. I'm momentum he is a mustang guy so it is a difference in vehicle style. I think an instructor with a similar car would have been better. He did say the car was neutral and was happy with how well it handled. So I'll be trying to stick with this set up or try to mimic it if I do get more tire with balanced increased rates. Obviously the car pushed when I got to the limits of the tire which almost every single car will do. I know I still have a lot to learn and I'm sure I can easily decrease time in places it's just me being a noob I don't see it and me not wanting to go to the ragged edge of my car since I need to drive it home at the end of the day haha Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-19-2015 So, I've had that left front strut noise for a few weeks now. Couldn't find what was up. Sounded like cluncking. Tracked on it. Well went to Firestone today to get an alignment as my rear camber was getting more and more positive(found the locknut on the camber arms loose so I slightly snugged it). They showed me that my left front strut was loose. Oh yeh. Of course don't have proper sized tools. Went over to Gallamores and got everything tight again. Hopefully that doesn't happen again at least the noise is gone over harsher bumps. We will see if this Firestone is as committed to getting my alignment specs right tomorrow. Also found out my tires are on 3/32nd tread. So a trip to Hburg is in the near future to pick up my all seasons and carry these wheels and tires to and from the track. Basically use them until they are bald at the track. Time to pick up wheel covers Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - rherold9 - 06-21-2015 Don't ever come to this Firestone in Richmond off 33 and Broad street. Got my appointment changed to Sunday at 10am they knew I'd be waiting for my car. Told me they needed an hour and a half which kind of annoyed me. They also stated they just get the car to factory specs and they won't guarantee the specs I asked for even if they are within spec (other Firestone had no issue with requested specs). So, I'm sitting here for over 2 hours now and my car hasn't touched the damn alignment rack and they said it won't be done until probably around 2pm. First, bad experience with a Firestone and won't be coming back to one here in Richmond. I'll wait to I get back to Hburg to use one. Recommended shops for alignment or basic service that are good here in Richmond that are reasonable in price? Not $120 for an alignment like some places want... Gallamore mentioned Merchant's Tire Edit: wow finally got my car back at 2:16pm. Over 4 hours past my appointment time. So, they told me they charge extra if the car has been altered, but they waved that because I was there for so long. Never going back again. Solid alignment job.... not... ![]() I know for a fact my toe can easily be adjusted I've literally watched them do it in 30 seconds at the Hburg Firestone. I know the rear camber sucks to adjust, but wtf? "We only adjust it to specs".. and yet it is out of spec left rear... Alignment tech be like: ![]() Maybe I expect too much because I've been treated so well at the other location, but damn it's frustrating. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: Project 2.Slow Mazda3 - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-21-2015 At some point you have to give up on those shops and go to "tuner" shpps |
