Ew. Never ever going back there idc how cheap their flights are. I'll pay more for a company that actually somewhat cares about you. But, if you have to cause your work that sucks.

SlimKlim Wrote:All you short people can STFU. If you're 6'3" or less you can sort of kind of almost fit into the space they give you in economy, over that and you're just considered a statistical outlier. I'm not a claustrophobic person but I was getting seriously panicky when the person in front of me reclined their seat making it hard for me to even move my legs because my knees were so firmly embedded in the seat in front of me.

rherold9 Wrote:To be honest, I think flying should be a luxury item and be more expensive. That would be the only way to solve all y'alls twisted panties.

This exists, it's called first class. Although I would assert that I shouldn't have to be rich to not be in discomfort during a several hundred dollar flight, simply because I'm tall. But I guess I'm just a dirty socialist that wants everything given to me on a silver platter.

They have to make money somehow. You are saying you would provide special seating for tall or overweight people if you were in charge of an airline company and lose money? Doubtful. Because you wouldn't survive. I'm sorry, that you are discomforted. No one is comfortable on a cheap flight. That's not going to change unless you buy a first class ticket or fly a more expensive airline.

Try driving in two hours 1000 miles. Oh wait, you can't... I'm sorry but you are spending 300-400 on a round trip ticket for a total of 4-5 hours round trip for 1000 miles. Let's think about this logically.

Drive 1000 miles. Add in gas, hotel costs, and the length of time it takes(10 hours+). Let's just say $80 a night and $70 for gas one way + food. So, let's say all together you are spending $300. Add in the hours it takes I'd say it's quite shitty to drive.

Fly 1000 miles. Takes two hours. Only $300-400 round trip for you. Airline companies have to pay jet full(super expensive), wages, plane maintenance, cost of plane, etc... I'd say you are getting a hell of a deal even if you are uncomfortable. I'm sorry but if I'm an airline company I'm stacking bitches up if I want to stay in business and make large profits. And I'll be making my seats and leg room for the average person to fit as many people as possible.

Nevermind, American Airlines. It doesn't matter much to me anyway. I can stand being a little uncomfortable for a couple hours, never bothered me much and I am 6'2 so its not like I am short. I wish my biggest worries and "pain" was from being a little squished.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - SlimKlim - 02-03-2016

Lol I don't give a shit what the relative costs of other means of transportation are. In other news, driving a car is faster, more comfortable, and likely cheaper than taking a horse drawn carriage across the country.

If I owned an airline I'd try to work the numbers so we could go back to the same amount of room per passenger you got in the early 2000s and charge a little bit more than the other guys and hope people would be willing to spend marginally more money to be significantly more comfortable because there's maybe 6 fewer seats on each plane.

I dunno why you're trying to make me sound like Hitler because I want a modicum of personal space when I travel. And like I said earlier it's a non issue because after my last flight I've just resolved to spend more to not packed in like a sardine next time I fly.

Nope, just saying you are preaching to the choir. Although, I understand your issue. I'm saying why would an airline put special conveniences for certain people without making them pay more? You act like you deserve extra space because you are tall... Not everyone is tall. They make airplanes for averages to slam as much people as possible to churn the most profits. That's the most airline companies work especially the cheap ticket ones.

I'd pay more for luxury at the same time it is a few hours, it is cheap, and it is super convenient compared to other forms of travel so I couldn't care less. Kinda like what DJ is saying.

Edit: You have to realize what you are getting for your money and a few hundred dollar flight you are getting a lot in this day and age regardless of your height.

Edit2: Also, sure they could make the hypothetical airline company with exceptions I just don't see it lasting sadly. Would be interesting to see though. Just like car makers these days just selling to the average person who doesn't give a shit. Very rare amount companies make over the top and exciting cars. If they do they usually are a premium in price.

All I hear is first world problem screaming lol. I've been flying on planes since before I could speak and as far as I'm concerned places are just fine. The only issue is who else is riding on your flight, but the plane itself I'm usually fine with, I also agree with Ryan I'm not sure what you expect in terms of the quality of the plane. Leg room is an argument I won't fight, maybe just request the seats by the emergency doors?

Also, Ryan, driving to Florida if you have at least one other person isn't that bad. Shit, my cousin went the whole way by himself. Its also much cheaper than flying and you don't need to stop in a hotel overnight. Its a very doable option if you ask me.

Airplane travel is a commodity. Get over it, drink a beer at the airport and take a nap.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - HAULN-SS - 02-03-2016

I worked for an airline for a few years, back when there were empty seats galore, more room generally, etc. There's a reason all the airlines were going bankrupt, merging, etc. We have gone from 4 -6 major u.s. carries to 2-3 tops

Also for whoever was bitching about reclining seats - there are bulkhead rows you can upgrade to as well, to not have a seat reclining in front of you.

Have done SC to Florida a many of time and 95 is just turrible then again my Dad is a maniac on the road. Have only done VA to Florida a few times. My dad's mania may influence why it wasn't so enjoyable :dunno: . I think the point is would you rather fly uncomfortably for 2 hours or drive 10+ while sleeping in a car and trading driving times? I'd choose the first option since flights are so cheap right now for what you get.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - WRXtranceformed - 02-03-2016

Cost is irrelevant because a lot of us don't pay a dime to fly for business. It's more about quality of life when you spend as much time on airplanes as some of us do. And you're definitely allowed to complain when you make the next to highest level of status on segments and not on long distance flights. Any momo can take a Lufthansa or British Airways across the pond and rack up tons of miles in planes built for longer distance travel (extra leg room, fully reclining seats, business class suites, etc.). True OGs sweat it out with the peasants on commuter routes. I do thank Jesus every time I get a free first class upgrade though (which happens less since the mergers).

Definitely +1 on the TSA Precheck. Best money I've ever spent, especially when it helps me skip 2+ hour lines at O'Hare....although so many people have it now sometimes the Precheck line is just as long at some airports.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - WRXtranceformed - 02-03-2016

With all of that said, I usually rent a car and drive down to ATL even though I could buy a flight. It's about the same amount of travel time using both methods (by the time you get in and out of both airports and to my destination) so I just avoid the hassle of the airport.

Didn't say no one should complain but first world problems man. On the other hand if you are knowingly going to buy a plane ticket without what you want then bitch about it, that is just absurd.

Also, 100% agree as long as you are flying big airports. Not all smaller ones have separate lines though.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 02-03-2016

So you're complaining about comfort on all the free flights you get while earning bank?

In the last 14 months I've been to Europe three times and Asia once; all in economy. No bigger seats, extra legroom, or super-reclining seats and I still think complaining would make me seem like an elitest. I say that, in part, because I flew my cousin to Seattle to work on my house and then again to Dallas for a Cowboys game. He's 40 years old and that was the 2nd and 3rd time he's been on a plane... in his entire life.

The intended purpose of this thread is to COMPLAIN. All you fuckwits can leave and let us complain about things we think are worth complaining about.

Edit: It's great that now I had to complain about you guys complaining about people's complaints. I love the internet.

Okay, I'll just bitch for the sake of bitching. Makes life super enjoyable for everyone, even myself.

Edit: Oh wait, that's about half the alumni on this forum.... :bootyshake:

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - WRXtranceformed - 02-03-2016

Definitely first world problems. I rarely have issues with comfort as I'm not a "tall" guy it has more to do with the people I get shoved in next to and the overall quality of the experience...the customer service, the cleanliness of the planes, old seating, old tech, etc.

Call me an elitist but that is crazy, I would never fly in an economy seat on a double digit hour flight. You must be the Bear Grylls of the flying world!

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 02-03-2016

The purpose of the internet is two fold:

-Complaining
-Telling other people they're wrong

We would be interneting wrong if we only did one.

So meta.

I also ferment my piss and get drunk off it. Long haul flights make this so much more doable.

Fortunately haven't run into that problem, but it is undoubtedly worth it for international. There is great satisfaction in cruising through immigration with no line, waiting for my bag, and walking past the monster line to a side exit where they take my slip and i walk on out.
