whether a crash happened right before taking office or right after taking office is irrelevant.
GW righted the ship faster and more effectively and resulted in dramatically better economic growth and employment.

and printing over $3 trillion in "quantitative easing" to artificially prop up the stock market makes the indicies look great, but is horrendous for the long term economic health of the country and value of the dollar.

Re: Stock Market Thread - HAULN-SS - 11-08-2012

Yeah, it's not hard to see that the market is obviously up because there is nowhere else to put your money and expect any kind of decent return.

Housing: Sucks
CD's: Sucks
Bonds: Sucks

I'd even say gold kind of sucks, because the entry barrier is too high now.

Re: Stock Market Thread - .RJ - 11-08-2012

Housing is always a shitty investment.

Righted the ship faster? He never got back to the employment rate he took office at.

Here's the same thing another way. Hmmm.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 12-18-2012

So... RGR (of which I own some) and SWHC have had a great rise during the Obama years due to fear of the fed government enacting further gun control, which they never did. Now... with renewed fear of the fed government enacting further gun control, and sales spiking (again), gun stocks are down. Makes sense. :dunno:

Re: Stock Market Thread - Evan - 12-18-2012

because short term sales might be up, but long term business would be way down

ie- in 08 the market didnt think that there would actually be any new gun laws, just people buying lots of stuff.
now, the market thinks there actually will be new gun laws

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 12-18-2012

bah, I would buy more RGR if I had some $. The last "assault rifle" ban didn't accomplish anything or hurt sales as far as I know. Unless they just ban all guns (yeah right), Ruger's going to be selling a ton, and much of what they make isn't scary assault rifles. They mostly make the non-scary, functionaly-equivalent stuff that is clearly for hunting and defense, and is incapable of shooting people!

RB&V Capital rates it a STRONG BUY

market doesn't know what to do today...

for some reason I actually have faith that congress is going to pull this one out at the last minute :dunno:

for some reason I actually have faith that congress is going to pull find a way to delay instead of dealing with the actual problem, then cut spending by .01% doing nothing.

Fixed that for you.

BTW- I hope everyone got everything settled in your long-term accounts/plans as capital gains will likely go up or at least not go down. I restructed my entire portfolio and took the taxes in CY12 since apparently capital gains is only for rich people, not the middle class that depends on growth for their retirement

Re: Stock Market Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-31-2012

Nice, i did that last year. New growth from the changes made up for the tax hit in I think the first 8 months. Super not happy about the projected tax hikes, especially on bonuses since that is over half of my income. I'm already taxed like crazy.

Re: Stock Market Thread - BLINGMW - 12-31-2012

whoops, i was wrong

Re: Stock Market Thread - TorinoCobra070 - 01-10-2013

I finally opened a Scottrade account this weekend... Now I have no idea what I am doing lol. I have just been messing around with the research tools but I don't really know any other reliable sites to check to help me decide on my first buy. Any advice?

Re: Stock Market Thread - Apoc - 01-15-2013

Anyone smart enough to have shorted AAPL?
