ordering was a hassle for me.
at&t was broken as various points in the order process.
apple store app would only order to my old address, which exists nowhere in "the system."
apple.com worked pretty well, but wouldn't let me order to my office.

Yep, AT&T is letting people grandfather their unlimited data, although it's apparently limited to 5GB before they throttle your speed back.
It's funny, I have unlimited data because I had it with my OG iPhone and iPhone 3G... got grandfathered with my iPhone 4 two years ago... and now I still get to keep it. I'm okay with it, even though I don't use near the 5GB soft cap.
Verizon people lose unlimited data, because they're forcing everyone onto that silly "Share Errything" plan.

apparently no cell-facetime unless you have a shared plan? blah. coworker and i considering becoming a family.
looked at my delivery date and apparently it won't ship until the 28th + 5 day shipping :/ probably get one more quickly at the store, but you can't cancel a pre-order.

Because they opened up the pre-order system at 12:01 AM PST, which is 3 AM EST.
Nerds like me got up at 3 AM and ordered a new phone, and we got all of Apple's alloted pre-orders I guess. They have a certain number for each carrier to sell, plus a set number to sell through store.apple.com, plus a set number to give to the retail stores.

AT&T was busted so Apple was my only choice. Last time they released, you could be in and out of a retail store with a new phone later in the release day. Going to shoot for that and tell them to blow me when they say I can't cancel my preorder.
Funny that a "wildly mediocre" phone can sell ?millions? in an hour in the middle of the night. They... just... might... be doing something right.

It's the ecosystem man. Everyone in my office that has one has an iphone4 and have waited a long time to upgrade, so now's the time. Everyone ive talked to said this one wasnt anything special, but their two years are up, and they are sticking with apple. That's good for apple I suppose, but like people already mentioned, it's just because their other stuff is apple.

It's called marketing. I mean, why would anyone buy a Jag when Lexus exists? The lexus will be cheaper, better, maybe more stylish, more powerful and infinitely more reliable. Oh wait. Because it's not about what's best.

First car I drove in my life was my dad's XK, maybe its a mix of sentiment as well; but boy do they drive like no other car. They arent sporty, and dont pretend to be, just coddle you in leather and real wood. I would love an XK for a daily since they are dirt cheap used, but a lot of the ones I could afford are earlier 2001ish era, and those had cylinder liner issues (AKA takes out the motor).

Just tried messing with Android debugging and development. Holy wow. RUN AWAY. The whole "but it's free" argument is nullified when it takes well over an hour and countless instances of bashing my head into the desk to figure this shit out... Xcode = download and go.

I had the same shitty experience not long ago trying to get xcode up and going. It may work well for developing ios/osx stuff, but for anything else its a terrible environment. It's especially bad in Lion where they tied all the compilers and whatnot into XCode so anything that's not in their nice little package is a real pain in the ass. FWIW i'm not a mobile apps kind of guy, and I have no idea what the android stuff is like to compare.
If you're doing anything C-based, I find Qt Creator to be pretty awesome - and I think there's a push/beta or something for Qt + android..might be worth a look

Agree with you on all points.
I really just wanted to get debug logs off the Nexus 7. Couldn't even find an answer on the Google [I'm probably one of the best information seekers of all-time].
For actual development, all I'm going to be doing is C-based/mobile/iOS/OSX so Xcode is pretty perfect for me.
