Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-15-2010 Woot Woot, placed my order with Dennis at Ashby Arms for my Rock Island Armory 1911 tactical.. Pictures will follow next monday when I'm 21 and can pick it up.. super anxious! Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Kaan - 03-15-2010 I just got some deals in the mail from rock river arms on thier "operator series," lower parts kits, bolt carriers, and 2 stage triggers... Hit me up if you are interested. Expires 4/15 Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-15-2010 ^^ thanks! I'll let you know when I get the gun in if I'm itching to upgrade anything yet.. 2 stage trigger sounds nice.. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - TorinoCobra070 - 03-15-2010 Man... I can't decide if I want a handgun or a catback exhaust... lol here is the gun I'm looking at though (also turning 21 soon). http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/19897 Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-15-2010 TorinoCobra070 Wrote:Man... I can't decide if I want a handgun or a catback exhaust... lol I'll save you the trouble, don't buy a Taurus. If you need a high cap .45 (need, lol) then you should buy a Glock 30, CZ-97, FNP45, XD45, or M&P45. (Or, a 1911 if 8 is OK for you.) I know the Taurus is cheap, but you get what you pay for with that kind of thing. Hmmm, I've read pretty good reviews about them, and my friend really likes his compact pro but I've personally never handled one. I've looked at the XD and M&P series, but they are pretty pricey. Maybe I could get one of those used. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 03-15-2010 FWIW the Taurus .40 cal I had was good for nothing more than a paperweight that went "boom" 3/4 of the time that you asked it to and hit the target about as much. I have an M&P 9C and I love it. And I don't think they are pricey at all, but ya know whatever. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Kaan - 03-16-2010 in the world of semi auto pistols... you have to have a reliable weapon... if you dont have 100% confidence that it will fire, its useless. and what rex and ryan are trying to say... they dont have 100% confidence in that weapon firing. Matt Leech sold his Ruger, becasue it was all jacked up when NEW... it spent 3 months at the factory getting worked on... and even after 300 flawless rounds, he couldnt trust it. Maybe I could get one of those used. I know you want to celebrate your birthday, but an extra 200 bucks in your pistol fund will get you a WAY nicer firearm, probably more than 200 dollars worth of "value", if you catch my meaning. For example, 526.99 will get you an H&K USP45 Compact with night sights. Also, if you're insisting on a .45, there's no point in going cheap on your gun, you'll be spending out your ass in ammo. :-p Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-23-2010 Well I finally got her and I'm stoked to take her out to the range!! Picked up an extra Chip Mccormick 8 round mag, Blackhawk Serpa Holster, and a box of PMC 230 gr FMJ's to shoot this weekend.. Pics as promised!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-23-2010 RIA tactical, very nice! Just like the one I had, except I had a stainless frame. This gets the Rex Stamp of Approval. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-23-2010 I would avoid an FNH FiveseveN. I'll tell you why. The 5.7X28 round was designed as a vestbusting PDW round. The FiveseveN was made as an afterthought so that people who carried P90's could carry a sidearm also. (Which, if you ask me, is retarded...isn't that what the PDW is for?) I hate to bring up tragedy for this discussion, but if you look at Ft. Hood, he fired over 100 rounds and killed 12...from practically point blank range. A horrible, despicable, evil thing...but he wasn't that effective. Now imagine trying to take down some hopped up tweaker who wants to take your wallet and rape your woman. A *determined* attacker, not an innocent bystander. The ballistics of the 5.7 out of the FN FiveseveN is about the equivalent of a .22Mag coming out of, say, a 10/22. (5.7 is maybe 50fps faster) On the other hand, you get to carry like 30 of them. Your call. The FiveseveN *is* hideously expensive though...you could buy like 3 glocks for the price of the FN... But comfort and accuracy should be first and foremost, everything else will fall in line after that. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-23-2010 Based on my thoughts for a CWC gun I would take a look at Kahr Arms maybe? http://www.kahr.com/ I've heard great things about their PM9.. You also can't go wrong with a compact Glock in any caliber of your choice or a .38 Snubbie for that matter... Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-23-2010 If you dont' mind a Mooniegun, Kahr arms are nice (if expensive). The shocking truth about a fundamental right being denied to 55% of citizens American Thinker ^ | March 22, 2010 | M Allen Fritsch Posted on March 23, 2010 12:33:53 AM CDT by neverdem There is a fundamental right being denied 55% of all Americans. This denial costs over 16,000 lives per year, meaning more than 44 of our fellow Americans will die every day that we delay. What should be done in light of these shocking figures? Using the example set by President Obama and the Congressional Democrats, there is only one answer: Universal Gun Care for every American. Surely a right outlined in the Bill of Rights (2d Amendment) is just as important as a right NOT found the Constitution (Health Care). Bonus, it should be easier to implement. After all, gun dealers and manufacturers are ready and willing to help solve the problem. Unlike the evil insurance companies, gun dealers don't want to take your weapon away from you when you most need it. Nor will they deny selling you a weapon simply because you haven't purchased one in the past (i.e. a pre-existing condition). ÔÇó Conventional estimates state that 45% of all US households own a firearm. This leaves at least 55% of all Americans "uncovered." ÔÇó In 2008 there were 16,272 murders in the USA. How many of those could have been prevented if the victims had been able to protect themselves? My proposal is a modest one: ÔÇó Mandate for every American to purchase a gun or be provided one by their employer (children under the age of 26 can share a weapon with their parents) ÔÇó Tax credits to offset the cost of purchase (for those making less than $250,000 per year and everyone in Nebraska) ÔÇó For those that can't afford it, a grant or subsidy to purchase a weapon (union members can get two weapons subsidized before 2018) ÔÇó Funding for a series of community based gun dealers/clinics and firing ranges (especially in under-served urban and rural areas) ÔÇó Monthly ammunition benefit so that no one has to choose between feeding their kids, paying the rent, or buying a box of .38 special cartridges Contact your representative today. The time to act is now. M Allen Fritsch is an entrepreneur and business owner. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and a former Army officer. His household is one of the 45%. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - V1GiLaNtE - 03-23-2010 ^^^ I've heard nothing but raves about the M&P series.. That would be a good choice if she didn't go revolver. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Jewels - 03-24-2010 I have an M&P 9C. I really like it. Its got adjustable backstraps, so its comfortable for me to shoot, and if Rex wants to shoot it for any length of time he can switch out the backstraps to make the gun comfortable for him. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-24-2010 The S&W M&P series has gotten rave reviews all over the place. Yes it has a trigger safety, adj. backstraps, etc. It's pretty bitchin. A few points: #1: "Small gun" does not mean "suitable for small person." I always tell people to go to a gun show or large gun store and hold *every* pistol they can get their hands on. Ignore caliber, ignore price. See how it feels, and how naturally it points. Grab the gun, make sure it's safe, close your eyes, and raise the gun. When you open them, you should be staring down the sights and they should be mostly in line. If it isn't comfortable, you won't practice with it. And if you don't practice with it, you shouldn't have it. Simple as that. #2: Revolvers are fine in their own right, but double action revolvers tend to have a DA trigger pull that's more like dragging a sandbag through mud with your index finger. This makes sense, since the double action is actually triple action: Cock the hammer, rotate the cylinder, and finally trip the sear. You're doing all that with your trigger finger. This may not be suitable for someone with weaker hands. Heavier pulls will encourage flinching and anticipating, and the pull itself will throw the sights off. "But Rex, aren't slides on automatics harder to operate?" Hell no, and if they are, it's because you're doin' it wrong. You should be using your whole hand to rack the slide, but for some reason most people only use their thumb and index finger. I guess if you want to make it harder, go ahead... #3: If the gun you get has expensive/hard to find ammo, you won't practice with it and if you don't practice with it you shouldn't have it. Simple as that. Similarly, don't discount a gun just because it's "big". I know plenty of ladies who prefer .45ACP over 9MM because the recoil is less harsh (even if it is greater). But caliber should be your least concern. Practice, on the other hand, should be your greatest concern. Regarding a pistol, it's where the holes go not how big they are that matters. You need to penetrate and hit a vital organ/nervous system component in order to stop an attacker, and you can't do that unless your body and mind is up to the task, regardless of your tool. You don't train until you get it right: You train until you can't get it wrong. This is your life we're talking about. Your ladyfriend would be well served by browsing over Cornered Cat.com |
