Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 12-13-2011

less hp and more ugly (and almost certainly more heavy) than a BRZ / FT96 for the same amount of money? doesnt make much sense to me, but at least GM is thinking in the right direction.

for that car to work it would have to be in the 18k range, to compete with the veloster other fwd based sporty cars. that also would seem to fit with the camaro much better too.

Agreed. This thing would have to be CHEAP to make any kind of business sense with 150 hp. And at that cheap I don't know that they could make the car particularly light. I can't see GM developing a bespoke platform for this car, so they'd have to share the platform with something much heavier. Kind of the same situation the 1 series is in.

Im actually more impressed by the new hyundai Genesis coupe news. Power is up massively. The V6 is now 348 horsepower and 296lb/ft and the turbo went from 201 to 274hp and 275lb/ft.
Thats pretty damn awesome. Coupe turbo, rwd with turbo at 274 and v6 at 348hp?

i didn't realize that. color me impressed.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - CaptainHenreh - 01-09-2012

Wow. 274hp + Six speed + RWD...in the "cheap" one. Damn, son.

Golden age of motherfucking horsepower.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - WRXtranceformed - 01-09-2012

348 hp out of a factory tuned NA V6 is super impressive. I wish my car had 40 extra horsepowers Sad

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 01-09-2012

and an ass ugly cruiser boat lardass. it could have 600hp and I would still give no shits.

I got through about 7 minutes of that video and it seemed really fanboi-ish. He didn't really give any good reasons why he liked it, and even admitted there was a good bit of brake fade. Half the time I couldn't understand what he was going on about, it was just a lot of dorifto.

The car looked and sounded underpowered to me. Might be a good tuner platform, but a car like that is not going to sway me from a V8 two seater in the future.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Kaan - 02-09-2012

umm it is the new "AE 86"... drift boys love the old cars.

I don't think this car is aimed at the type of person that is shopping Corvettes, or the mentality that you describe here. If you were considering a Miata as a fun, small, efficient runabout, you now have two options at reasonable price points. Finally, another manufacturer has realized that there is so much more to a car than a loud rumble and 500 hp ready to kill you. Besides, if they wanted to attack the Corvette crowd, they would've tried to find a way to put a V8 in there, and there is no doubt that somebody is going to try to do that in the very near future...

I didn't say they were trying to break into the Corvette buyer market, but that guy sure didn't do a good job convincing me that I should pass up a more expensive, RWD V8 coupe for a less expensive RWD 4 banger as a fun weekend car / track racer. In reality, most people buying these are going to be doing exactly what most people are doing in a Corvette; stoplight racing. So exists another slow tuner fanboi car that the 18-24 demographic is going to throw a downpipe and springs on and fart their way around town.

It's just the reality of it. Anyone buying this car to track might as well just buy a Miata, or step it up and buy a RWD V8 coupe.

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Tyler.M - 02-09-2012

Eh, the BR-Z and the GT-86 look cool, but 200 hp? I mean that's pretty anemic for cars nowadays, and when a mini cooper S could potentially beat you off the line, I'd say you might have an issue. Do like that they''ll be release a mechanical diff eventually, but I'll wait until they release a nice turbo model before I get too excited.

Honestly, though I'm not sure what market these guys are trying to break into. I mean, the BR-Z is gonna be around 24k, pitting it right up against some pretty popular hot hatches like the GTI, which is already inundated with competitors. I suppose its nice to have something that's RWD that fills the gap that was vacated after the s2000 was ended, but still... it doesn't seem like this base model will be much of a performer.... I'd rather just save the cash and buy me a 370z Smile

Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 02-09-2012

this car isnt for drag queens.

If "off the line" is part of your vehicle selection vocabulary, keep shopping.
If a very lightweight, balanced, low slung rwd coupe with outstanding handling doesnt speak to you more than a lardass german FWD hatchback, then buy the VW. There is absolutely no comparison between the two.

200hp is far and away more than enough for the purposes of this car
