Dunno, but as far as I can tell Sprinters have sold and continue to sell well.

Don't forget, for one glorious year Benz gave us a 503hp minivan in the R63.

Still > a flex if; you can find one

Had a new Beetle rental this past weekend in NorCal.

[Image: 13001139_10154757364094992_5876172415636...e=5775E008]

Pros:
- Enjoyable little 1.8T. Good torque, lovely turbo whistle. Surprising amount of pep. The first time I really got on it I had to get on it a second time to make sure I wasn't just feeling things.
- Decent handling. Came shod with some high aspect tires, which handled pretty well and had the added bonus of soaking up a lot of the absolute horrid roads they have.
- Space. It had a fairly proper trunk. We also fit an adult comfortably in the back.
- Functional, basic interior. It's not going to win any awards, but it ergonomically made sense and didn't take away from the experience at all. Too many cars do so this is a plus to me.

Cons:
- Rear visibility was pretty garbage. Long-term I'd probably remove the rear headrests. Tiny rear window, big headrests, massive c-pillars. I did a lot of turning my head.
- Sunroof should come standard.
- BT and a USB port should come standard.
- Not much sound deadening.

All in all, this car sucked less than the All-Road I had a few weeks back. It's an entirely different car, but rating them for what they are, I'd give the nod to the Beetle.

Not really a rental, but my gf's family asked me to drive their 2011 Audi Q7 TDI down to the beach last week and it was definitely a quality experience.

Exterior: Pretty par for the course for Audi. You look at it and get the sense that "Yes, this is Audi." I like the DRL LED strips that Audi does and it's a pretty aggressive looking SUV overall. They don't really seem that big, but that changes once you're in the driver's seat. One thing that bothered me was that you can't close the tailgate without pushing the button that automatically does it for you. I found myself grabbing the gate to pull it down and being stopped when the door stopped moving about 4 inches down multiple times.

Interior: This was really impressive. I've never used any of Audi's infotainment system before, let alone many other manufacturer's, but the system was pretty easy to pick up. It was like BMW where you controlled everything with a little spinny knob by your high hand, but some times the wheel didn't match very well with the screen when you spun it. The speakers were great, but the actual radio/XM radio reception was surprisingly bad. Whether that was because something was wrong, or if it's because of the new fad to not have actual antennas anywhere, but it bothered me. Of course no one else in the car realized it because I guess they were used to it, but it was jarring when riding in a $60,000 SUV. The seats were really comfortable, but after 5 hours of riding, not even a bed made of marshmallows would feel soft anymore. What blew my mind was the fact that the air condition was piped into the seats. Not just heated or cooled seats, but the air condition itself was blown onto your back. The parking assist sensors were really useful when backing it up and the camera was nice on the large display. Another thing I really liked was the cruise control, which I know sounds funny. It honestly was the nicest and most intuitive system I've ever used. It was very nice to see the exact speed you set it at displayed on the HUD thing on the dash and bumping the lever would increase or decrease it by 1 mph each time.

Engine: I honestly never checked to see which of the TDI motors it was, but honestly it didn't matter. It had plenty of get up and go and turbo-spool-whistle-noise-stuff when getting onto the interstate and it crept nicely at low rpm in stop and go traffic. It sipped fuel and it's huge fuel tank (I think 24 gallons or something) made it a rare occurrence to stop at the gas station. It was a really smooth motor even when going through the 6 speed auto, not the 8. I tried the manual shift setting that all automatics have nowadays, which was a mistake. It shifted so slow that I couldn't tell half of the time if it had realized I told it to shift or not.

It also had different settings for the suspension, which is kind of the automotive equivalent of pump sneakers in middle school. They don't really do anything, but if you don't have them, you better be ready for the mean kid of recess to make fun of you. I didn't feel much difference between the settings, but I also didn't have much time or place to test them out. The one thing I can say is that the "Ride level" setting made a huge difference. The car probably lifts of lowers itself 1-2 FULL inches on command. I was very impressed. Overall it was a very smooth ride and it was a far cry from the Miata I drove to Roanoke to meet them.

Very cool car with a cool motor. I'm not sure if I'd ever like to have one because they seem like the vanilla soccer mom car of upper class neighborhoods, but it is certainly a pleasure to put around at the beach in or take a long road trip with.

Taylor's movin' on up!

Just FYI modern cars, (and european cars going back to the early 90s) do still have an antenna, they use the rear window defroster.

Also like every cruise control car works the same way. Even my protege. Even Jameses Miata lol.

Also cooled seats are exactly what you described -nothing different on the Audi. They are cold.

Not all of them. Some are "ventilated" where they use a fan to suck hot air away from your body, others are cooled and shoot cold air toward you.

Never heard of any cars that use a fan to pull hot air away. What manufacturer uses that?

I'm driving a new gen 2.4L Cherokee for the next 2 weeks. It has 11k miles on the odometer and is already the biggest piece of shit. Transmission sticks, back up camera has stayed on while in Drive two times now. Not to mention that the 2.4L can't even get out of its own way. My god this is slow. It has "leather", heated seats/steering wheel, but no sunroof. Also has a large touch screen but no nav. Wtf kind of package is this?

I will update after some real miles. I'm in Rochester and likely taking the drive to Canada this weekend.

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - ScottyB - 07-12-2016

i had no idea you could even get a cherokee with a 2.4. that just sounds gross.

I dislike that kind of stuff too (surprise). The handicapped/automatic door at any store still lets you open it with your own arms. Go ahead, motorize the doors and the tailgate so old/fat/young/armless/short/lazy people can drive, but my arms and hands work, can I use them please?

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - JPolen01 - 07-20-2016

Alright so I've been driving this Cherokee for 2 weeks now. It's a 2.4L Limited, 2016 I believe, with 11,400 miles. First off, who the fuck decided this anemic 2.4L was acceptable? No torque at all, no low end power. Nothing. I'm driving this thing with the pedal buried in the carpet everywhere and I'm not ever breaking the speed limit. The transmission is garbage. Already slipping at 11k miles. When you shift from R to D the backup camera stays on for a good 30 seconds which is insanely trippy to see as you drive off.

The suspension is a joke. What platform is this thing built on? It WALLOWS on every turn no matter how slow you are going. Turning right at 20mph? Feels like you're going to roll the sum bitch. I did drive it over a curb so it does baby CUV things ok.

The interior is meh. Heated pleather seats/steering wheel. The seats have no bolster and were killing me after a 1.5 hr drive to Canada. It's got a giant touch screen infotainment thing but no nav. The steering wheel control buttons feel like they came off a children's toy. It has decent legroom in the back for adults - we had 4 grown men riding around everyday.

Overall this is a great example of the shit quality that is Chrysler Fiat. I am so glad we passed on the grand Cherokee when shopping for the cx5. I know this is a rental but only 11k miles on it and this thing is falling apart. Maybe Jeff can tell us who in their right mind would buy this anemic front wheel drive turd.

I can't tell if you're complaining about this or if it's "just trippy", but the Flex has this, although you can turn it off. It bothered me at first, but then I realized that for doing something like say, parallel parking, or lining up a hitch; having the backup camera on while you're initially moving forward isn't something outrageous. It's pretty useful, although it is a hair annoying that it consumes the multifunction display during that period.

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - SlimKlim - 07-20-2016

Yeah the VW stays up for a little bit or until you reach a certain forward speed, pretty nifty for parallel parking.

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - JPolen01 - 07-20-2016

I guess I could see how that might be useful. It's not necessarily a complaint as much as it's just odd coming from a car that doesn't do that. It is annoying that I can't change the radio or climate control because the camera is on though.

On my Ford, the steering wheel buttons still work in Reverse. I'm sure you can advance from A Whole New World to Let It Go while backing up, I know I can.

I mean maybe but when she wants to listen scan through a bunch of stations looking for "Toothbrush" while I'm backing up, (or turn on the rear AC, or somethign to that effect) and the seek buttons only go through my presets blah blah blah.
