Kaan Wrote:the "cool" looking one like DJ had (on his DSM anyway) works so well (at moving air out) it causes crazy amounts of turbulent air (that's not a good thing on the front of the car). the best non turbulent vent is the old school hot rod hand hammered louvers... this aluminum bit is a happy medium of all the right aerodynamic pieces.

Oh cool, a little bit of turbulent air behind the vent is the largest thing you are worried about on a stock integra RS without even the factory aero bits.

Seriously, I bet I shouldn't have put a wing on my car either because that causes drag. Aero is all about balance while providing the most net gains. Very few things are "free" gains without a negative backlash of some sort.

Sorry for getting worked up, but this topic comes up a lot when people reference my car in their builds. Conjecture all you want, but for friends I want to see do well; dont waste your time with internet experts, go try it yourself. The noise in your driving at HPDE levels and amateur levels of racing will most likely run you in circles anyway. (Coming from personal experience doing it myself).

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-07-2015

I'm in the vanpool... But there are several DIY yarn videos (someone build me a wind tunnel if you get butthurt over yarn) that show massive turbulence behind the larger hood vents. I've also read several articles that suggest smaller vents can evacuate the heat at speed and cause less turbulence.

I can't find an oem under tray for my car... I've only found them for the ITR and it doesn't bolt up.

Also, DJ... Work less and troll this thread more!

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - WRXtranceformed - 07-07-2015

Did someone say hood vents? Let me pull out my carbon fiber e-peen for just a moment:

I see why Jaguar does it and continues to do it though on their V8s....5 liters with a blower on top makes REAL heat

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-07-2015

I found an under tray! It won't be here this weekend and I've been brow beat so much I'll entertain myself with some other destructive car project. No holes in the hood... Yet

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-07-2015

That CF vent cost more then my car

Until tomorrow Wink

I'll save a set for you... Next time your car is at the house I'll cut them in for you Wink

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - *insertusernamehere* - 07-07-2015

And in todays news, Kaan has joined the ranks of Maengs bad taste, as seen by the crowds response, DJ gets hot and bothered because racecar and Lee has enough carbon fiber to save Riceland from an economic break down.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Sully - 07-07-2015

Just do what the s2k guys do. Cut out some of the hood between the bracing.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-08-2015

That S2k venting is for the stunnas. They don't meet any of the criteria from engineers that wrote the articles (not newb internetz posts... though I've read those too and DJs car is brought up a lot actually) I've read.

Is this what it takes to get MM active in the summer time? lol

I really liked the looks of these vents over the internets... I was underwhelmed when I opened the package... but they still meet the criteria that real experts agree are needed.

here is the turbulent air with a big hole style vent. Smile

its not much of an undertray lol .... but i'll add it and see what happens. I get bored in between events. Idle hands are bad!

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - PDenbigh - 07-08-2015

Hey Kaan - I'll toss in my experience with heat if it helps. The XR gets hot. 2x the stock HP will do that. I started with a C&R aluminum radiator, which helped. Installed the factory Coswroth hood vents (that were developed and placed in a wind tunnel) which helped. But still overheated. Then, as suggested here, I completely ducted the front of the car. This included a custom tray from the bumper to the front crossmembmer, and an aluminum "rectangle" duct that pulled in all the air from the center of the front bumper and gave it nowhere to go but through the radiator.

Of everything I did, the good radiator and the proper radiator ducting made the biggest impacts. I can't remember the temps, but I can usually run at VIR July now and never exceed 200 degrees.

The hood vents I have do as much to reduce lift as they do in aiding cooling. They do help with cooling during red or black flag incidents when the car is stopped.

I used gutter flashing but it's admittedly thin and weak. With your metal experience, I'm sure you can come up with something tougher.

The XR (and DJ's E36) are obviously way different machines than the Integra, so don't take this data as gospel. If I had the chance to do it all over again, though, I'd ducted the front before I even considered the vents.

Hope that helps.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - HAULN-SS - 07-08-2015

If you're bored and just looking to cut and weld on some shit, I'm thinking about putting GTO seats in my MCSS and need to make some rails for the seats to sit on and mount to the floorboard....

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Kaan - 07-08-2015

I'm probably going to try to hunt down some dry ice and break out the spot weld cutter on the integra. we shall see.

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - rherold9 - 07-08-2015

Doesn't the Tundra need some vents?

Re: Project: Integra Type Dickbutt - Sully - 07-08-2015

Heat rises. S2k vents are above the heat producing components. Therefore, by the tansitive property and my internet engineering degree s2k vents are fully functional, especially when hard parked at a meet. Tongue

I know you are joking but that is internet logic that is retarded.

same with when everybody on the internet decided it was cool to jack up their hood hinges and rake their hoods so it would "cool better", while simultaneously forgetting why cowl induction works. congrats, now your car can't cool itself properly when you're moving!

aerodynamics, how does it work?
