Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - HAULN-SS - 11-22-2015 Slactivism....seems to be a ton of that going on these days. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Sully - 11-22-2015 I'm definitely not slacking as my job now is long hours and extremely hard work. That comment may not have been aimed at me and just my generation but I definitely work my ass off. I'm just worried about what I'm actually able to do in a business type setting. I consider myself somewhat intelligent and I'm not afraid of work or long hours which I did throughout school too. Although the job was easy, I'd work 18 hours almost every Friday junior year. Senior year, I Also had my schedule set where I would be working a 12-13 hour shift, and would go to my class I had that day during my lunch break Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - HAULN-SS - 11-23-2015 I was mostly referring to Facebook SJWs Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - G.Irish - 11-23-2015 I don't really mind slacktivism. I mean if you want to post memes and articles about your favorite cause but never donate time or money to them, that's your prerogative. What I hate is when people get on the holier-than-thou high horse when they do that. Actually, even for people who are going out there and making a difference, I hate people getting on that high horse. It's good that you're making a difference, it's not a fucking status symbol. Stop patting yourself on the back so hard, you're gonna get a repetitive stress injury. Then again, I guess as snobbery and self-aggrandizement goes, philanthropy is actually useful. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 11-24-2015 Speaking of millennials P.S. - The term millennials
Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - .RJ - 11-24-2015 The fact that more than 0% of the people think that the gov should censor statements blows my mind. I wonder how the question was phrased. Free speech means that people are going to say things that someone else might not agree with or find offensive or that there might be consequences for the things that come out of your piehole. But gov't censorship? For fucks sake. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - WRXtranceformed - 11-24-2015 This is our world now people. Hoping the next generation has more sense. Now get off my lawn. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 11-24-2015 This bugs the shit out of me. It's gotten so bad with today's college kids making everything PC that Senifeld and Chris Rock won't do college shows anymore because kids don't understand comedy anymore. They want all their jokes to be PC and that ain't how comedy is. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Ken - 11-24-2015 JPolen01 Wrote:This bugs the shit out of me. "Freedom of speech means I can say anything and face no repercussions," like when people flipped out because the blatantly racist Clippers' owner was kicked out of NBA. You're correct. You can say whatever you'd like, but you can also totally be fired and/or reprimanded for being an idiot. Freedom and freedom to do what you want without consequences are two different things. Someone should show them some richard pryor tapes  Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - G.Irish - 11-24-2015 While that survey's results are troubling, let's have some perspective. Previous generations (that are still alive today) thought that it was ok for whole segments of US citizens to be discriminated against. Hell, there are people who still believe that today. If you held a survey a few decades ago you might have found that many people would have agreed with jailing people who were politically Communist/Socialist. In the Vietnam era college students were out there spitting on war veterans and if you surveyed the average young person at the time you probably could've uncovered some pretty ignorant attitudes. We have never been, nor will we ever be perfect as a population of Americans. The key is that hopefully our laws and institutions protect everyone's rights from those who have some of these strongly-held backwards attitudes about things. And I don't know that it really says that much about college students, so much as it says that when you're filthy rich you can pick and choose what you want to do. I'm sure Chris Rock isn't itching to do shows in the deep South either. Neither Seinfeld or Chris Rock really need to do college shows anyway. Why do people insist on calling me out for my opinion?!!! Free speech!!!' Funny you should mention - I am supposed to go see him (Seinfeld) in a week. Pretty excited. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 11-30-2015 Home warranty companies. Our realtor gave us a 1 year home warranty when we bought our house. Very nice!. It's getting ready to expire at the end of December and we have been having some heating issues so I give the warranty company a call. They send out an HVAC company, I pay the deductible, and they diagnose a small flange leak and next to no freon on the unit. Sweet. They need to get authorization from the warranty company and leave. I get a call 2 days later denying the claim because the connection of the line to the unit is not covered. Awesome. Most real-estate agents include them nowadays as an assurance. I never used mine, but had buddies try to use them and they either wanted to repair (cheap repairs), or was a hell of a time getting it replaced and was some junk. Definitely not worth it. Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 11-30-2015 We won't be renewing. That's for sure. Once this freon leak is fixed we should be all set. Just got a new water heater, HVAC guys fix the leak and give it the ole' once over. Everything else is in good shape barring any catastrophe. |
