Re: Window tint - Ken - 03-19-2012 I've had 15% on all my cars, RSX, Ralliart and now the Evo. Never gotten any tickets here in NY (50% all around is state limit) or in my years in VA. :dunno: FWIW I paid 175 to have it done on the RSX and 200 for the Lancers. Shop gauranteed it's work for life. I would highly recommend a shop doing it, it's a pain in the ass and pretty easy to screw up if you don't lay it down just right. Re: Window tint - Dave - 04-01-2012 Just to follow up, I had X Rayz in Charlottesville put on a legal tint; it just wasn't worth it to take both cars to Northern VA for it. Guy did a great job and I'm pleased. Did both cars in the same day; was $195/car after multi-car discount. Re: Window tint - Ryan T - 04-01-2012 Anybody know what BMW factory tint is? My neighbor behind me has a 2010 3-series and she just got a ticket after a trooper measured her tint and told her it was too dark. Factory tint is so high sometimes you don't even notice the glass being tinted. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk Re: Window tint - JustinG - 04-02-2012 Typically factory glass has 5-7% of tint on it without the factory "privacy" tint. Most troopers are lenient up to that difference, unless your below like 30% on the drivers windows. If it is factory tinted glass, it is/was a $110-120 ticket, so it could be worth taking to court. Re: Window tint - Jake - 04-02-2012 I think I might have some sort of tint on the E36. Kinda blue-ish. Not sure if BMW offered it from the factory back then... but given how weak BMW's AC usually is, it could be worth going darker (i.e. noticeable tint) before summer really hits. On the E36 mine was actually cold as hell so check that everything was good. Re: Window tint - Jake - 04-02-2012 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Jake Wrote:I think I might have some sort of tint on the E36. Hmm okay. Mine seems to be really cold, actually... but I haven't tried it in super-hot weather yet since I just got the car. I was just making a broad assumption based on my E34 (like blowing ice through a straw, very wheezy) and Joey's M3 (kind of a warm, humid breeze). Mine sucks too and never gets the car cool, I'm going 35 on the fronts and maybe a little darker on the back and possibly something on thw windshield as well but I also have the medical waiver so I'm hoping a cop pulls me for it so I can slap him with a glove and then show him my waiver Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk Re: Window tint - JPolen01 - 04-02-2012 Sully Wrote:Teach me to waiverD_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Jake Wrote:I think I might have some sort of tint on the E36. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk Re: Window tint - Sully - 04-02-2012 Not sure about Maryland but VA, you just print it out and bring it to a dr. And have them sign it saying you need tint...I used my dermatoligist and just said because my acne medicine made me sensitive to sunlight but she said she thinks everyone should have tint so would have signed no matter what Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk Re: Window tint - jongp3 - 04-04-2012 I drove 4 years in VA with 5% Rear 20% front in my Integra, I actually got a ticket the day before I sold the car. Luckily I got off of it because i proved the car was sold. 5% is definitely to dark for night time driving. Originally the car was from Texas and with the heat down there it was definitely needed. The tint i used was Carbon based, and when the cop measured it 4 years after it was applied it read 17% in the front. I'll try and find the brand of tint i used. I got the whole car done for $125 and a case of beer. lol SunTek HP Charcoal http://www.tintcenter.com/films/suntek/st_hp_ch/ It made headlights turn a shade of yellow at night which was nice for the side view mirrors Re: Window tint - ViPER1313 - 04-10-2012 Got 50% on the Mustang. It was a tossup between 50 and 35 (MD is pretty strict about a maximum combined 35%) but I decided I didn't want to deal with the possible hassle of tint tickets. I think it's dark enough when combined with the factory tint :dunno: The biggest benefit in my opinion is the reduced glare at night, especially with an auto-dimming rear view mirror.
Re: Window tint - JPolen01 - 04-21-2012 Well it happened today after 5 years. I got pulled by a good ole va state boy with nothing better to do then bother me about my windows. Minding my own on 81, cruising at 70 and he comes by on my left an hangs around for a minute or 2 before deciding to light me up. His tint reader said I had 11%:-o woops. I got a court summons but it says I can pay the fee and avoid court. I'll probably do this because the court date is the second day of my internship and I'm obviously not taking off for this bs. Anyone from out of state have experience with this? I don't think they can compel me to take it off because I'm not a resident of va? Anyone have any connections that can help a brother out? If the car is registered here then it'd be difficult to get out of it, if it's not and registered in someplace with lax tint laws (say, maryland) you might be able to get out of it..... if not, crutchfield removes all window tint for like, $60 if i remember right, do it before you go to court and you'll get the thing dropped. You'll still have to pay court fees tho Re: Window tint - Ryan T - 04-21-2012 Tyler.M Wrote:JPolen01 Wrote:Anyone from out of state have experience with this? You'll still have to pay court fees tho Tyler is right. If it is registered in Virginia then you are probably caught. If you intend to keep the tint on, just prepay the fine online and avoid court costs. However paying with your card online you will have to pay a 4% convenience fee. To answer your question about whether or not the court can compel you to take it off; if it is registered in virginia, yes they can. Are they likely to? No. You would have to get several tickets, appear in court a few times and probably piss off a Judge before he/she would ever order your tint removed. Re: Window tint - JPolen01 - 04-22-2012 Thanks for the insight guys. I'm going to keep the tint on, so I'll pay the fine instead of going to court like I planned. |
