"proper wheels" don't make much difference when you're only putting down like 100whp. not including the S2000 of course which is another league entirely. i'd still take the miata  now i await Goodspeed's furious angerrrr

Miata: Because 50/50 weight distribution, cheap tire/brakes budget and a huge list of amature-turned-pro race drivers speaks for itself. Miata: BECAUSE RACE CAR ^arguement over Re: OK, you convinced me - drivesideways46 - 10-01-2011 Why not both? Honda for all your daily needs, and a Miata that can easily be a daily or fun car. Slightly OT, why am I comfortable driving an NA Miata, but as soon as I get in an NB I feel like this: ![]() I blame the stupid armrests. Re: OK, you convinced me - Kaan - 10-01-2011 DLingenfelter Wrote:Honda: Because impressing high school girls with my 9k rpm redline, flat brimmed hat and collection of Monster energy drink merchandise is the ideal way of life. I'm not trying to be a jerk... just going to push the argument to a more educated level. Hondas built to play on track and daily arent chalked full of JDM bling parts, rootbeer paint, and monster merchandise... they ride stiffer, wider, simplier than the super street honda bois. Now lets talk 50/50 weight distribution. You are talking about something you no little to nothing about. Stop reading the internet and beg you to work a weekend at the tech shed with NASA. after 11 years scaling cars, ONLY a lotus super 7 has come close to 50/50 in all definitions of! There are three ways to look at it: 1. Front two tires vs. rear two tires.... it show the bias... this will help with brakes and what your springs actually are 2. LR and RF vs RR and LF... this shows the predictability of the car and its ability to transition from L to R and vise versa 3. both left side tires vs the right side... it doesnt really do anything for you performance wise, but on a non coil overed car, if you know what you are doing, you can identify the bias of the gas tank, where the driver sits (you can look too ), basically where all the factory junk is. but it really does you no good. Let me remind you... a miata DOES NOT meet any of the 3 without serious work. It will ONLY be able to meet #2, as will a honda, with similar serious work. Cheap tires and brakes? "track" hondas and miata can and often do use the same wheels and tires... track brake pads are expensive for both, autozone pads and rotors are cheap for both. its a wash. Amature-turned pro Drivers: Spec Miata is popular. It is NASCAR for grassroots motorsports. Its a huge field, money talks, and cheating happens every single race. a huge list of drivers turned pro is due to the popularity of the class and not due to the car. a miata was a stepping stone not a life changing (in terms of driving skill) vehicle. I'd argue that the only thing that SM and all those turned pro drivers ever did... drive up the cost of body parts, steering racks, engines/transmission/rear ends. Just like the honda tunning/super street wanabes drive up the price for all the honda crap. again, its a wash. Miata: Because BRAIN WASH Re: OK, you convinced me - Kaan - 10-01-2011 drivesideways46 Wrote:Why not both? Honda for all your daily needs, and a Miata that can easily be a daily or fun car. you just said daily a honda daily and fun the miata "both" would mean to me... that a honda can be fun and daily (my camp) and a miata can be fun and dailied (i dont disagree, i just dont think its the only option). you have added nothing to this thread. please come back and try again. Re: OK, you convinced me - ScottyB - 10-01-2011 DLingenfelter Wrote:Honda: Because impressing high school girls with my 9k rpm redline, flat brimmed hat and collection of Monster energy drink merchandise is the ideal way of life. HEY you can't talk about subaru owners like that. Re: OK, you convinced me - xvxax - 10-01-2011 You are going a little hard on deep details here, considering Hondas carry something around 99.9999% of their weight over the front wheels. So here is what economy car hondas and mazda miatas have in common: Stock they kind of suck, enormous aftermarket, cheap price, decent fun, cheap consumables. Here is what separates them. There is a pretty reasonable flow of old lady weekend only driven Mazda Miatas with 60k on them. There is not a very decent flow of any old honda with 60k miles on them, and when you do find them they are crazy expensive. So why hate? It's clear this isn't going to be a daily driver. Trying to do both with a single car is kind of miserable so who cares how many groceries you can fit in the trunk of a miata?. The miata is way easier, and some people don't want to mess with the shortcomings of fwd. So, anyway. Mr. OP, keep the dream alive. Miata it is. Re: OK, you convinced me - drivesideways46 - 10-01-2011 Kaan Wrote:drivesideways46 Wrote:Why not both? Honda for all your daily needs, and a Miata that can easily be a daily or fun car. For the record, the OP didn't ask why Hondas were superior to Miatas, so neither of us has added anything to this thread. Re: OK, you convinced me - Kaan - 10-01-2011 deep on details? how about "you guys are general on yours and have a lot of missinformation." 99.9% weight on the front wheels is most definately incorrect. Most hondas are less out of wack then you think (depending on what someone wants, a 60/40 is easy with a honda). Miatas arent as good with weight distribution as you think and have been told. I could go on, but its pretty easy to see you dont want an education on what characteristics CAN make a good track car. we could talk about wheel base, roll centers, set up, track width, max tire size, etc. all these things effect the "short comings of fwd" differently. and they very between honda platforms... less on miatas. At no point did i say the hondas were superior to miatas. I was just pointing out that there were other options. I even told him where to look :-P its common sense to look on CL, but to get a real deal you need to look often, have cash in hand, and be ready to leave work/class to march right out and get it. I've seen plenty of 60k mile old lady cars... i've also seen a lot of low mileage neglected oil sludged motors due to not being driven. low miles doesnt mean its a good car. ever started a car once a month? its a def dry start every time. your mains and rod bearings just love it. we can toss the grocery getter out the window if you like. while i own a crx i daily a R6 with a backpack... I can learn to live one backpack load at a time and i did for several years. In the end, Miata is the easy answer and not always the best or educated answer. If someone in MM needs help with a Miata I will never say no...hell i'll help DJ and the Mtriple, everyone makes mistakes (lol <3) I dont "hate" them that much. they arent my cup of tea and a lot of other people arent fans of them either. I just want to see more free thought and more real education on what it takes to make things "go fast" and a lot less cookie cutter. diversity is good... If i see you kids running around with "Madison Miata :001" or some shit in your sigs, i will know we have started to reach the level of "The Great Hate" Re: OK, you convinced me - SlimKlim - 10-01-2011 You guys sure know how to pick a pissing match over some old shitty cars... Mr. kaan has the red mist so bad he missed my 99.99% weight distribution joke. Re: OK, you convinced me - Kaan - 10-01-2011 With as much misinformation that goes around the awesome miata talk, who is to know it's a joke? <3 |
