The worst part about that was how the Corbeau seat came out from the slider rail during impact.......

Too much power coming out of one- spun it into the inside tire wall going up into two...

Yeah, reinforces my opinion about sliders. I despise sliders and would never run them.

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - JustinG - 04-11-2011

agreed, and the fact that during tech there were some all out race cars still utilizing slider blew my mind. however the corbeuas did still look intact so it somewhat shifts my thoughts on corbeaus and safety.

wow, whoops

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - Goodspeed - 04-11-2011

Sliders are....meh. I have some of the FIA sled-test results measured in force/decanewtons (or some such wizardry) for Sparco sliders at my desk and they can take some force. Keep in mind, Corbeau stuff isn't rated. But, another way to look at it is its another thing to fail in a real world accident. Guys who really need them for 4 person teams to a car buy them, but few others do (ie, only those who don't want to draw the necessary line between daily driver and track car).

Goodspeed... I need to know my discount Wink

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - Apoc - 04-11-2011

Eh, I run sliders and I've gotten some nasty licks in with no problems.

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - kcook - 04-11-2011

my sparco sliders held up in my roll over... i dont see a problem in running them unless its a 100% dedicated race car where you shouldnt need to adjust the seat on the fly

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-12-2011

A roll over actually has less energy hit than a standard impact (energy is dispersed more so).

Would you want sliders in this accident (this past weekend?). Sorry, this is why I have a halo seat, hans, and keep my stock door impact beams intact. Honsetly its also why I want a cage as soon as I decide wether im racing this car or another car. Also why I want to reduce as many failure points as possible.

Background is a VIR club race, someone dropped oil into turn 1....Everyone came out okay, watch till the end. I dont know why this video hits me so personally (maybe same track, same type of cars im driving?)

I wouldn't think twice about having them. I guess that makes me dumb. :?

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-12-2011

Personal preference. And not downplaying kyles accident as that incident got me to make sure I had seats harnesses and a roll bar. Every slider ice ever played with had play in a bad way

Re: NASA-MA Summit Point Main April 9-10 2011 - Apoc - 04-12-2011

Note I'm not saying a seat bolted to the floor isn't safer... just that many people need the adjustment, even in race cars.

You want scary failures? I've seen a welded cage tear from the floor in a t-bone accident. Confusedhock:

I'm impressed the door on that bimmer that got hit didnt even budge lol, probably thanks for nascar door bars or something similar. Dj, what would you want to race other than your m3?

Thats the $20,000 (or 30k) question. Top 3 right now in no particular order 1) Spec Boxster 2) Spec 3 3) American Iron

That is, if I dont decide to do GTS2/3.

I've got a friend in Charlottesville that has built about 12 Spec Boxster if you need someone to talk about it with
