- mrbaggio - 05-15-2008 If you use you PC as a DVR you will not need to pay extra fees that comcast or tivo charges. - Maengelito - 05-25-2008 is there any particular website that you guys like to use to buy equipment like newegg or cnet or something? Also, I'm looking to buy a laptop battery for an older Inspiron laptop. Any places you guys recommend for buying refurbished batteries? - ScottyB - 05-25-2008 Maengelito Wrote:newegg that's where i bought my components to build my PC years ago and their prices/shipping were the best for what i needed (motherboard, RAM, video card) - jongp3 - 05-29-2008 Second the Newegg website or tigerdirect.com or sickdeals.com On a side note, if you want to turn a computer into a DVR for HDTV content you will need something rather beefy. HD content is rather large and requires alot of CPU power to reproduce. Just for reference a computer I tried to use is a 2.4ghz AMD Athlon XP with 2GB of RAM and a SATA 250GB Hard Drive, ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256MB. Whenever I went to play something in HD the CPU would max out and the picture would start to jitter and soon the audio would be out of sync. Right now I use my MacBook Pro which is a 2ghz Core 2 Duo, bought a 25ft HDMI cable from monoprice.com for 20 bucks, and a DVI to HDMI converter for 4 bucks. To get 5.1 surround I also got a 25ft Optical Cable. Now i'm able to play HD content. If your not worried about HD then any old computer can handle Standard def. |
