haha, yup i hear you on those. Except i don't let anyone unless i trust them a LOT drive my car.
I've also used my mom's car and my office outfit to be taken seriously at a dealership. :lol:

lol, i am pretty sure we've all done stuff similar to that... car salesman can get really pushy tho... another boring story:
me and friend went to test drive an s-55 amg... our story was that we were looking to trade in an s-500... well the salesman bought it since we drove up in the s-500 but next thing we knew we were sitting at a desk while we filled out a form to post the s-500 for sale... very f'ing scary since it was somebodys dads car... this guy was really good... after a series of ummmms and yeah we have to think about this some more, we we were off the hook... I am pretty sure that was the last time that ever happened...
ps: still go to test drive the s-55 amg... f'ing sweeeeettt but out of my league for ohhhh maybe another 75 years..

The point of the exercise is to teach an understanding of it, Simply too many variables to give a 100% accurate answer - leave that one for when you're getting paid to solve them.

- like Jay said, you associate people with their cars. Moving into my High school just before my Junior year, I may have not known everyone, but I could tell you what they drove.
-coming home from school on a break and immediately checking over each angle on the parents cars for accidental damage.
-(freshmen year)- would come home and notice any slight change in my car, especially since my parents drove it
-glance at the tires almost every time I get in for a flat or leak
-hearing there was a car club at Student Org night the 1st couple weeks at JMU and running up to the table to sign up

Autocrossing isn't expensive. Neither is tracking. I was able to both while in school. I honestly dont care if people in the club don't track, it's not for everyone and it can be expensive.

lets make another thread for bitching about how to track and be in school at the same time, but lets keep this thread on topic.
im very guilty of associating people with thier cars, which comes in handy at sheetz.
The Supra has been extremely good to me in terms of getting test drives. Just roll up to the main building and say, I'm intersted in getting ________, but I want to take one for a ride. Any rebuttal is met with, "I've done the research but want to find out what it actually feels like" and "if I wanted to rag on a car, I'd take my own out and drive it" where I proceed to flog thier car in the test drive
Works like a charm almost every time.
